The majority were $1k or $2k deposits except for one branch where I had a good relationship with the manager. I think the cycling was the big issue here...lesson learned.

Check your online activities to see if the 21 matches with the current month total transaction value (since they are not posted to CO yet so you would lose it should you replace the CO card with the regular card, assuming this is what the CSR meant). If it does not match anything, I would hesitate to replace the fee card because the CSR may have made a mistake, be it typo or otherwise.
Unless you have reasons to have $10K sitting in that account, otherwise it does not make much sense to park $ there.

Considered yourself lucky that Chase only closed your account instead of filing an SAR on you. The account being brand new, with lots of cash deposits/ immediate withdrawal activities, has all the look of money laundering in the eyes of the bank compliance dept. Chase probably does not want the trouble to file SAR so simply close your account.

Definitely...I got a call from some branch of their compliance department asking what was going on with all the cash deposits (sounded like a precursor to a SAR) and told them the truth. This seems like it's what got my account canceled, but much better to tell the truth and lose a checking account than get a SAR and have to deal with that.

I went to my neighborhood Chase branch today and brought the coupon explaining that I wanted to close my checking account and open a new one for the promotion. They said that even if I did that, I wouldn't get the miles because the system keeps track that I received miles in 2008 and 2009 and that I would have to wait over 6 months to be eligible again. It seems like other people in this thread were able to close it and reopen one a couple of days later.
What should I have said in response? I opened my current account on 12/5/09, and it is still open today.

On top of that, the language of the Ts and Cs have changed sometime midyear that specifically mentioned for New Accounts only.
Finally most who tried to do repeated promo closed their accounts as soon as the 6 months after account opening have passed...

Were the coins bought with Chase Credit Card for CO miles? Would they close it if it were for another credit card, like AA?

They will close the checking account with the pattern of money immediately withdrawn after coins deposits, regardless how the coins are obtained.
Read that the poster got a call from the Compliance Dept - said Dept has the responsibilities to make sure the bank follows all the government rules and regulations. In this case, the activities of OP's checking account have all the look of money laundering even though it is not. The bank needs to report such activities for government investigation. This means more work to the bank that has to be done on an already unprofitable account. It is an easy decision to simply close the account because bank has the right to close any account which it deems is not for the "intended purpose".
You have to understand that the bank is a for profit business. This is a business decision to close unprofitable account that has questionable activities.
Now the lingering question is, since the account is closed less than 6 months, would the OP still keep the bonus miles?

If the bank is not happy with the CO card being used for coin purchase, it would close the CO credit card, not the personal checking. Remember, this is a personal checking account, not a CO checking account. It just have a fee-based CO branded debit card that allows you to earn miles with non-PIN transactions. You can switch the CO debit card back to a no fee regular debit card anytime you want, and it does not affect the nature of the checking account.

I wanted to float this out there just to get others' thoughts....
My wife was waiting for the last 12,500 miles to get posted and Chase told her they would be there no later than Nov 9th as her 1st debit card purchase was on Sept 13th. She was looking to book an award ticket all the way up until Nov 16th at the 25,000 r/t level (SaverPass). After the 16th there was no more availability at 25K, but there was at 50K (EasyPass). Miles didn't get posted until Nov 18th. I called a rep at the Chase/Continental Debit Card line and she was adamant that all miles were posted correctly and in a timely manner and if I had a problem I needed to take it up with whomever gave me the Nov 9th date, which was a lady at the San Jose Internet Service Center.
Any point in pursuing this or is there a more direct number/person to call?

What would you hope to achieve? If all the miles have posted, albeit later than you expected, there's not anything more to be done. They're not going to award additional miles and Chase isn't going to make a saver award magically appear (assuming you haven't booked a revenue or 50K award ticket already).
