any recent luck getting US Airways status matches, or any recent news on some of their "Race to preferred" or "preferred trial" promotions?

EDIT: Just spoke to US Airways.

They do not match, but they did currently offer the 90 day trial preferred membership for anyone who has not dropped down from status in the past 24 months. Unfortunately, because I took advantage of that USAirways/Budget Rental free preferred trial last summer, I'm not eligible, and they were pretty strict on it.

Details, if you are eligible: seems to have $15 fee, silver preferred good for 90 days, need to fly 7,500 miles to maintain it within 90 days.

EDIT Seems to be a YMMV on the $15 fee. Others are reporting $200, though I was quoted if I had been eligible it would've only been $15.

can you possibly tell me who is eligible for the $15 fee?
I only have paid pts in my USAIR account but am EK G.
will that work?

Hi,

After reading the posts in this forum I decided to email a few *A airlines requesting a status match. (I am currently a QF WP but need to fly on Air Canada and maybe AirNZ a few times in the next year or so).

AirNZ replied with:

"Thank you for your email enquiry regarding status matches.
If you are able to send us evidence of your status with Qantas I am sure we can come to a suitable arrangement. We would require a scanned copy of a statement, your current card (including the expiry date) and details of upcoming trips with us.
We look forward to having you fly with us."

BMI replied with:

"Thank you for your email,

We offer status match to members who have recently taken flights with bmi or have flights booked for travel with bmi. Once you have made your first bmi reservation, please send me your booking reference and I will process your upgrade request for you.
Best regards"

No reponse yet from UA or CO.

AC replied that my query "could not be responded to electronically".

Finally got a response from UA offering status match for 90 days in accordance with previous posts in this forum.

I'm trying for that too but I don't think that I will get matched to more than Gold. I've been waiting for more than 2 weeks and called DL acknowledging my fax for a status match request using UA 1K. I also wonder if the fact that I'm currently an FO (Delta Silver) has something to do with the delay. So far no email from them telling me one way or the other that they matched my UA 1k status. Has anyone recently tried to status match with DL? One person got his status match 1 day after sending the request but that was more than a month ago so I'm also not sure if they had a boost in status match request since the SkyPriority went live.

Just received a response from CO about status matching to Qantas WP:

Dear Sir:

Thank you for contacting the OnePass Service Center.

OnePass offers a promotion that matches the elite status of some airline frequent flyer programs with an equivalent level in the OnePass Elite program. The airline you are inquiring about is not eligible to participate in the match program.

I kind of figured CO wouldn't match UA for they are both star. Oh well, I doubt it would mean SWU's anyway. Once they get together on their domestic perks this summer all should be much easier to travel on one another.

Quick match to UA 1P

Success to match Virgin Gold to UA 1P. Request was sent late on 4/19. "Status matched" email was received on 4/22. The new status was already showing online.

The same challenge requirement: 15000 paid United miles within 90 days.
Once it is met, 1P will be good for the rest of this year Only.

BA Gold

I am switching from BA where I am Gold Executive Card to either Delta, CO or UA. 95% of my travel is international, and largely to Africa. Anyone have experience with Status Match from BA Gold? Any suggestions on which new airline to adopt?

None are great choices from a program perspective. But more info is needed:

(1) What is most important: status perks, mileage redemption (if so for what), upgrades?
(2) Will you have any domestic travel?
(3) How do you plan to get to Africa? DL currently flies LOS, and UA has plans to fly to LOS, but otherwise you'll be flying via Europe (depending on your origination).

Nb. This probably belongs on a separate thread.

Thanks for your email. Given that I never seem to be able to use my mileage, the most important thing is status perks -- lounge access, upgrades, free baggage and change fees waived, etc. I actually find the BA executive program quite nice in that regard, but most of my travel is from the US to Africa. There are no partners that fly directly to Africa (unlike SAA, DL and soon UA), and even if I want to go through Europe, they do not have good connections to West Africa. Connections to East Africa are good, however. I also work a lot in France. While I can take open skies, Orly is inconvenient. THe real problem is that I am spoiled by BA business class, and while in many respect SkyTeam is the way to go, I have only had awful experiences on Delta. And from what I am reading, DL has not been good in terms of matching elite status. So, I am leaning toward SkyTeam and CO. I don't like to fly out of EWR, but, they have so many partners that this does not seem like to big of a problem. Again, I am spoiled by the flat-beds of BA, and there are few options in terms of other airlines. Anyone know what the future of alliances will be with Virgin?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Any suggestions on where to continue this discussion.

I would suggest you stick with BAEC for status perks.

Probably not. CO does not match from other *A programs.

Alaska to CO

CO would match Alaska MVP Gold to their Gold Elite Level only.

cardesigner2000 May 3, 2010 5:24 am

Any idea if Continental will still match after the merger announcement with UA?

Nelumbo May 3, 2010 5:55 am

I think it is a good time to match to CO and save another match chance for UA in the future.

DL/UA/CO Match BR?

I'm a BR (EVA) gold member and plan to switch either to DL or UA/CO for TPE-LAX. Will any of these airlines match my BR status (I figure CO might have a chance as they're partner with BR)? Thanks!
