Kellogs promo. Be careful

My cousin works for AA and has informed me that too many people are trying to be the next Dave Peters(the pudding guy)With all the rewards about to be distributed, it will be very difficult for you to redeem the miles for flights. Paying customers come first. Only a few spots are held per flight for FF. High volume spots will be near impossible to redeem ie. NYC, CHI, Orlando, HW, Paris, London, Vegas et al.
Most likely to do this you will have to take off peak flights with restrictions and stopovers with and increased lead time prior to booking flights. So b4 you decide to get that next rain check for 100 boxes of special K be careful and do some research.

Thanks a lot for the information. Welcome to FlyerTalk!

This gives me another reason not to switch over to AA.

Sounds like every other airline out there these days. Shove lots of mile earning marketing schemes in front of our faces and then just try and redeem them.

Is AA somehow tagging the miles earned by people via this promotion in order to increase the burden in redeeming them later or does this hardship apply across the board for all AA FF?

I only ask because I assume AA is looking to make it difficult for everyone so why should anyone taking part in this promotion use extra caution? I suppose the warning should go out to all AA customers.

Just curious before I jump in with both feet and welcome to FT.

Fixed spelling

I don't know who this person is, but s/he's posting this all over. Either s/he's has an issue with Kelloggs or AA. We all know the mileage game. I don't care what airline one uses and collects the miles, the name of the game is to learn how and when one redeems miles for free tickets. I've been very active with AA just for the last 2 years, so I'm fairly new to the game, but just this summer flew first class TPA-DFW-LGW paying for the ticket with my miles. So I don't need anybody telling me not to get miles, in that case we all should stop and FlyerTalk would not exist, what we need is to help each other on how to play with them. Sorry if I offended the original poster, but unless AA shuts it's doors tomorrow, I will collect as many miles as possible however I could, as long as it's financially reasonable.

Just saw this after I posted my reply. Ofcourse paying customer will have first crack at a seat, that's with any airline. Unless I missed something, what's the problem with that?

I am also somewhat skeptical about the original post for several reasons.

1) The Kellogg's promotion has been going on for nearly two years. If AA were upset that too many people were collecting too many miles this way, this could have stopped it long ago.

2) The total # of miles earned through Kellogg's is miniscule compared with the total # of miles being accumulated by other methods, such as flying, credit cards, and other partners. It is not likely to make much difference with regard to the total availability of award seats.

3) Pudding Guy's name is not Dave Peters.

I agree with Andrez. I am going to HNL this January with my first frequent flyer ticket with AA thanks to Kelloggs. I had enough miles for first class but decided to save my remaining 25K for another flight. I had no problem booking for HNL, I booked it back in May of this year. I bought a lot of Nutigrain bars and cereal. Without the miles from Kelloggs, I wouldn't have been able to go. Of course I earned miles from the credit card and all other hotel programs. I have also learned a lot from Flyertalk. Thanks to all of you.

I agree with you; get what you can, I have no beef, I posted it all over cause I just found out. But there is an old addage, buyer beware. If you fly free from now til 2050 I would congrat you. Look I'm new to the game here to. I have roughly 50k miles for America West. I have found it tough to get a flight that is my first choice and that is without a promo like this. But with God knows how many people are trying to milk this promo you have to agree that the odds will get tougher as people try to cash in.

Anf in conclusion the only beef I have with Kellogs is that my Frosed Flakes get soggy too quick....just kidding

I understand where you're coming from. Airlines are not treating their customers as good as they used to.

Most of the miles I accumulated were from the credit card, phone, and hotel programs. I only bought the Kelloggs cereal and bars when they were on sale. I got tired of the bars really fast.

I did notice in the newspaper today that Kelloggs shares are up. I guess thats because of all of us here at Flyertalk. Kelloggs should give all of us some bonus miles for helping them.

To make sure you get a frequent flyer seat for those popular cities, you have to book way in advance. Its not right, but thats the way the cookies crumble, as my granny used to say.

Welcome aboard, joem1211! Mrs. Frugal and I have had good success with award redemption on AA. Another thing to keep in mind, all
earned miles, from wherever, count toward the one million mile life time milestone.

Happy Trails!

I have had excellent response from AA when I have needed a free ticket. Also upgrades have been much easier to get on AA than either CO or UA. Just my experience over the past two years.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. Granted, ff tix are capacity controlled, but every piece of empirical evidence I've seen shows that AA provides more ff seats than almost any other airline. That's borne out by my own experience - I've almost always gotten the exact award I wanted on or very near to the dates I wanted. And almost all of my miles are earned through credit cards and other non-flight sources - I've only had status for one year since I started playing the ff game.
