Never mind the fact that this topics may have been posted in the wrong place. The bigger concern is -- what do people think about this sort of action?

1. I feel that if American buys Reno, they have the right to operate it as a separate company (much like Eagle) and pay their pilots based on Reno's union contract. They should not be required to bump up these pilots. American probably saved this airline from going under (if I remembe correctly, they are not very profitable).

2. The pilot slowdown (i.e. no overtime) is not going to get me angry at American but at the pilots. Stop acting like children (if I dont get my way, I am going to cry).

Any thoughts?

I want all of the pilots on every flight we fly to be DELIGHTED with their career.
If it takes American to pay the Reno pilots on the same pay scale, so be it. Don't annoy the pilots. They are responsible for everything that happens on the aircraft, they are the decision makers in the air! Now, if the pay scale difference is because Reno Air may fly smaller aircraft (less passengers) than American, OK then I agree with less pay. But if everything is equal, then DUH...Hello?! American Airlines Mgmnt....pay the pilots.
Equal pay for equal work!!!

American has cancelled 240 flights today, and says even more may have to be cancelled tomorrow.

I read that AA categorizes all delays, cancels, and misconections into two categories: "schedule irregularity" and "force majeure".

The difference is that in a force majeure event, AA is obligated to ONLY refunding your ticket. They may book you on another flight but they are not required. For schedule irreg., AA is responsible for rebooking your flight and may provide hotel accomod provided certain requirements are met - rule 240C and E) and provide a refund should one not accept their alternative. Note all of these are in theory, actual experience may vary.

So, does this "job action" constitute a schedule irrgularity or a force majeure? In any case, at least currently AA is trying to book passengers on other flights or on other airline's flights (from today's AP report).

Bad News guys...

The AA pilot's action continues...

FROM THE ABC.COM WEB SITE< a portion of the story (2-08

The airline says it expects to cancel another 360 flights today (2-08,) increasing the total to more than 600 since Friday
as pilots continued an apparent work slowdown believed to be in reaction to sluggish negotiations on a work agreement over a recently acquired carrier. (Reno Air.)

SO as I wrote: "If you have plans to fly AA you better double check if you flight's going to take off..." CATMAN

OMNI: Fellow sage travellers, need your advice!

I am flying AA from BOS-ORD-SEA-NRT Thursday. I checked at AA.com and another site and learned that SEA-NRT was cancelled. Chance is high that it will not be "uncancelled" before Thursday. So I may have to make alternative travel arrangements.

I cannot find the thread where people discussed this, but when an airline confirms you on another airline, whose airline's mile do you get? I like AA so I can meet the platinum challenge, and SEA-NRT has a 10k mile bonus. Second choice is UA b/c of the PremEx 100% bonus and 10k bonus from SEA-NRT, although I know I won't fly enough on UA to qualify for PremEx this year.

Your ideas are appreciated.

Well, I had my flights canceled this morning on AA SJC-DFW-STL. What a pain to be transferred to another airline when you are trying to be loyal to an airline. You know what really bugs me ... I have colleagues that earn more than I do for the same work as me. I am not on a "no overtime" deal and I am not even paid for O/T. Who pays these pilots' salaries at the end of the day anyway?

Kyklin,

I don't have any experience with American, but once I had a United flight cancelled and they put me on an American flight, I just had to mail in the boarding pass and a form that they gave me, and I got the credit for the miles on UA. I don't know if this situation would be different.

Good Luck,
- Anna

It's already been discussed, but this is a good time to repeat:

If you are savvy, you should get miles for BOTH airlines.

That airlines you are rebooked on will credit your miles automatically - if you don't already have a membership number, get one at the counter.

As AnneS correctly pointed out, the airline that you were originally booked on will grant you miles for that segment if you send them a copy of your original ticket + boarding passes. I've generally enclosed a brief note and the credit has shown up quite quickly (3-4 weeks)

I realize that it's not worth the terrible inconvenience but a silver lining nevertheless for all you AA flyers.

My experience on American has been that they will not give you credit if you are invol. re-routed on another airline. If you find out differently, let me know.

I was involuntarily rerouted from AA to UA on an IAD - JFK flight. I used the form on the old www.americanair.com site to request credit for the original flight with a note explaining what had happened. The miles were posted within a week.

Things here this morning at United LAX are certainly effected by the AA job action. It's a real zoo. I fly out of here every Tuesday morning and it's much busier today with lots of AA folks attempting to have their ticket endorsed over to United.

According to CNN, 60-90% of flights out of Kennedy have been cacelled. All LaGuardia - Miami flights are cancelled until noon. Others airports that are affected include San Jose (50%), DFW (15%), and Chicago.

Rather than fighting at the counter at 5:30 AM Thursday, my plan is to call AA after midnight tonight (they said that they can only change today's and tomorrow's itineraries) and request to be transferred to UA.

kyklin, fight for the bonuses too. And the platinum qualifying. Try not to be rebooked on JL or CP though--you might have trouble getting AA miles for both a non-flown segment and a flown segment.

Honestly, I'd just let them send me to JFK and hop on UA or NW, or to IAD and get on ANA, or to ATL with DL. Your best bet is to get on the overwater hop as far east as you can which should minimize the impacts of people with cancelled flights further west (someone on a flight ORD/SEA/NRT probably isn't going to fly ORD-JFK-NRT).

I would think with a problem like this that AA should honor Advantage credit if you end up on another airline. That is GOOD customer service.

My station learned around 7 in the morning ath already 24 flights, all to LAX and SFO were cancelled. Our shooter said there were a lot of screaming flyers at the gate. I would not want to be him putting a mike in the face of a stranded traveler and ask "HOw do you feel?"

I"m wondering if the U-A flight I'm taking to LONDON's goign to be full as well??? CATMAN
