I am going to sign up to get an AA partner, and the sign-up page asks if I was referred by an account holder. Do they give anything for referrals? I searched for a conga line but didn't find one.

Thanks

I've spent about an inordinate amount of time, spread over 2+ weeks, trying to get points.com to work. Their chat help and email help person is friendly and helpful, but it just doesn't work for me or my spouse. Our AS and AA mileage accounts are still "Pending" at points.com.

As a hint for those who attempt to get free miles from Alaska Air and transfer them to American, note that you have to establish two semi-separate accounts at AS. One is Mileage Points (500 free miles) and one is MyAlaskaAir (1000 free miles?), and apparently you create them in that order. The above information is from the very helpful AS website help number, who seem to know a lot more than the regular AS help staff. I don't have the number with me.

What points.com wants is your MyAlaskaAir ID, which is not your Milesge Points number but is something like "[email protected]" or "TravellinLots" or something else you have made up.

If we ever get points.com working, we will convert the 1500 AS miles to 150 points.com points, then convert them to 15 AAdvantage miles. A lot of trouble for a partner!

Use caution with the above advice...this is a prime case of the blind leading the blind.

Followup: Points.com eventually recognized my ME balance (about 10 days after I entered it). I was able to complete my free transaction of 5 ME for 1 AA. The AAdvantage mile posted successfully to AA about 10 days after that.

Two partners to go...

This is not true, the points are converted directly from alsaka miles to AA miles, 176 total for 1500 aa miles. My transfer worked like a charm once i figured it out. The points.com people are very helpful too.

After two months, I've just about given up on getting points.com to recognize my Alaska Air account. So, I decided to open up an America West account and will be transfering some Clickreward points over there and then transfer those points to American via points.com. Hopefully, this will work better and with less headache.

Random thoughts: This AA promo sure has us doing wierd things with our miles, doesn't it? I don't think I've ever been remotely giddy about watching one single AAdvantage mile post before...

Middle_Seat,
Where did you hear that points.com wants your MyAlaskaAir ID rather than your Mileage Plan number? I couldn't get it to accept the former but it would accept the latter. It remains to be seen if it will really work. I can't believe it takes them so long to to update your balances. Programs like Yodlee do it immediately.

Points.com is really quite painful to use. They have some really ridiculous security policies--like you can't give them a free Internet email address like yahoo or hotmail. I've never encountered any site with such a restriction--even ultra-security conscious banks.

What we won't do to get those 20 AA partners!

Points.com is doomed to fail. I do not give them a year to survive if they continue to practice this business model. This is one of the worst sites as far as operations and by far, the worst for the money as far as value is concerned.

At this rate, they are just throwing good money in the garbage can. They all need a good lesson in Marketing 101 because this group of people just do not have a clue on what they are doing (unless they really know they are stealing miles and points from their customers).

As far as the technical aspect of their site, I have heard nothing but horror stories. People not getting their points posted, site breakdowns, etc. Points.com is doing everything very wrong if they want to survive. If they are well funded, certainly the people funding this company will come to their senses someday because there is no way you can convince me that this site is close to making money.

I hate seeing people getting ripped off...there are always going to be better alternatives out there than throwing my hard earned miles and points away at points.com!

The process was rather slow but once
completed miles converted quickly.
I finished the transaction and the
miles posted in the same week.
Alaska Air to AA miles...another partner.

anne,
Did you use your MileagePlan number or your MyAlaskaAir id? As I said in my previous post I couldn't get it to accept my MyAlaskaAir id/password so I entered my MileagePlan number and zipcode (the password you use when you log on to MileagePlan. Points.com sent me (several) messages saying they couldn't validate my MileagePlan number. Needless to say, both ids/passwords work fine on AlaskaAir.com

Any tips on how to get this to work? I'd be forever in your debt!

Never mind. I figured it out. It's not intuitive but it is easy.

You have to enter your MileagePlan number and then request a PIN for points.com to use to access your account. You do this by clicking on the "Obtain your PIN" link next to the PIN field. As far as I can tell the only purpose for this PIN is for points.com. You would never need to use it on AlaskaAir.com

I successfully opened AS accounts for 4 family members and transfered them via points.com to AA. The process is about as clear as mud, but here's my best recollection of it:

stephlac's information is correct as far as it goes, but you also must have a myalaskaair account AND ACTIVATE IT with the code they snail mail to you before points.com can hook into your account. You can get your special AS/points.com PIN before or after activating myaslaskair by following the link from your points.com AS account information page. If the activation of myalaskaair is your last step, you have to go back to your AS profile at points.com and update the record - even if you have already entered everything including your AS/points.com PIN. This causes the points.com system to recheck for authorization from AS's system. After you do all this, it only takes a couple of hours at most before the "pending" is gone from your points.com and you can request the transfer of 1500 AS points to 176 AA miles.

It looked like you could transfer as few as 10 or so AS miles to get 1 or 2 AA miles, but I transfered the whole 1500 for each of us because I'm not really interested in leaving AS miles stranded. BTW, you get one free transfer when you set up points.com, so the whole messy process costs you nothing but time.

Today, for mysterious reasons, Points.com FINALLY began showing AS and AA miles for my spouse and me. We did the transfers, which should rayer: show up in a couple of days on AA.

And, if needed we can move some orphan miles from other programs to ClickRewards, to get 250 ClickMiles to move to AAdvantage for yet another partner. This second transfer will cost a $5.98 fee and require that we give our credit card numbers to Points dot com

middleseat, why not join (or rejoin) clickrewards through the Delta 750 mile signup bonus link? If you then complete an opinion place survey, you'll get a total of 850 clickmiles that can be transferred to any partner airline, not just Delta. Here are a couple related links:

It took me several emails and phone calls to Points.com to get them to finally activate my Alaska Air account. I just completed the free transfer of the 1500 AS miles to AA. Another partner! I now have 21.

Still getting more since I want to be sure to get those 20,000 bonus miles.

I agree, Points.com will be another dot bomb before long. As soon as the 20/20 AA partner promo is over, people won't use it anymore.
