The 'trick' I use is that my browser always clears all history and cookies every time I quit. So when I'm going e-shopping through a referral link, I just make sure to open a new, clean browser with no history. I'm also a little bit obsessive about if I click around and browse, etc, I decide / note what I'm going to buy, close my browser, open a clean version, and then click through and buy exactly what I want immediately. Sure I shouldn't have to do it, but in the long run it makes things easier.
Also make sure you're not using a browser that has Ghostery, ......., or Cookie blocking. It can really screw with getting cash back etc.

The 78,000 charity magazine subscription posted on the portal and AA.com. Good times.

Shocked

I bought $270 or so worth on the weekend after Thanksgiving and noticed my 15,777 miles posted, close enough for me to be happy. Still haven't seen the AA bonus for shopping via the portal.

Color me surprised...still hesitant to go out of my way for shopping online via these portals as I know I'm not one to chase for miles. My time is just too damn precious.

I dont understand this. You guys spend 1300$ to get 78k miles..plus a nightmare with Cartera

One could easily spend 1130$ and get 100k US Air/AA miles. Am I missing the trick?

I agree. I dont' know why they couldn't just sign up for another credit card offer somewhere to get a sign up bonus just as good, if not better. Heck, they could've just bought points from the airlines themselves as many of them have like a 30% bonus, as well.

If you send them to charity, the $1300 is tax deductable.

Please share how you are getting 100k AA miles for $1130.

I made a $42 purchase on Nov. 30th so I am expecting 2,515 miles. For a couple of weeks now the only thing showing up in my AA account is magazines.com for $21.94 for a total of 1,317 miles. Should I contact Cartera (useless almost) or annoy magazines.com by email about my missing miles?

What have you guys had success with?

$1130 is ~1.1cpm, which is the US Airways Share Miles promo price. I assume that's what he was referring to. With a little work, totally doable.

But with buy/share miles promos, you don't get any mags. If you only buy stuff you would sometimes enjoy reading (how many buy overpriced magazines at the airport?) It's like getting those magazines for free. Plus a lot of people were giving them as gifts. Can't beat that.

Yeah, if only they'd bring the Goldpoints/Valuemags deal back...that 112.5 miles/$ was a solid proposition! Although my postal carrier was not a fan. lol

mine posted dec 16.

I ordered mine on Nov 30, and my miles posted to my AA account yesterday, Dec 16.

They still show as "Transaction Pending", but I'm sure those are the miles from the magazines.com order.

The share promo requires you have two people, one of which has 50k miles in their account. Last time it happened, I made a post asking if anyone was willing to do it and "trade miles" - and no one would bite. So if you can do the 100k share - go for it - some of us can't.

Also got 1300 miles for the purchase and 2500 for the bonus. The effective cost is well under 1000 depending where we end up in tax land this year, and a children's hospital will have 3 extra magazines to give to kids for the next 5 years.

I ended up cancelling my Time magazine due to the headaches and I actually was offered 53 issues for $2! it just seemed silly to buy the mag for $60 x 60pts when i could have the sae mag for 2.
