I have to say having been through the experience of trying to use the purchase protection warranties on these cards... in a couple of cases had to call on extended warranties, and also call on a price match and a product return where retailer would not take back...... I have found that sticking with Amex (real Amex) and Chase very worthwhile. On a Citi issued card where I saw a price drop some 40 days after purchase from Amazon, they would not help as they do not cover internet purchases. And with a B of A Virgin Amex I made use of the extended warranty. It is quite a long drawn out process. With Amex itself they have historically been very quick and very easy with this kind of thing, and I only read good things about Chase. So it just reaffirms my choices and sticking with Amex and Chase. Citi customer service sucks.
QL_714 - I understand the Chase AARP gig is over. And many people locked out for abusing. There were crazy abuses of the Freedom/Preferred transaction bonuses but again no point getting locked out even if you managed a couple 100k points.

It would seem accounts were being closed for abuses. When you dig a little deeper you might find the real reasons. There always seems to be more to the story.

"Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"

Anyhows it is on life support... the main app links are down. Who knows how long it will last? I don't think Chase will leave orphaned links up as long as Citi did for AA. But maybe they will.
Still it is a good gig missed by most here as it generates real $s instead of points

Some are just obsessed with miles. There are just so many opportunities with a 5% card that are not profitable for miles. Just look at the CharterOne/Citizen Bank card. It gives 10% for 3 months on groceries and gas. I wonder what could be done with that.

Chase kills these links pretty quick so I would not wait if you are on the fence.

The same as in 2011 and before...SPG Amex. 99% of my spend is in the "general" category, and despite my best efforts I have yet to find a card that offers something more valuable than a Starpoint.

Sapphire Preferred/Freedom combo
If the Freedom is gutted or otherwise relegated to the bench, I'd probably go with the Ritz-Carlton card and SPG Amex (ol' reliable). The current UR setup works slightly better for me but my 2 back-ups can sub without missing that much of a beat depending on my travel/spend patterns. Together the Sapphire/Freedom combo is a good 1-2 punch. There are issues with the Ritz, but mostly I have come out ahead so far with it.
Now that I think about it, UR integration is probably the tie that binds it for me. If that goes, the Sapphire will probably go, too.
I really like this topic as it has forced me to think about these things more deliberately than I otherwise would have.
Thanks OP!

OK, back on topic gang.
In my wallet will be the cards the banks will be offering with the biggest BANG. Just sent in my targeted app. for 50K UR with Ink Bold. No minimum spend. Nice way to start 2012. Of course, my SPG Amex is always in the wallet.

Prob Cancel +/- churn once fee comes:
Amex PRG,Plat,Green,SPG,Delta Gold -- too much annual fees and need to earn 50k pts to get most MR txfr bonuses which I don't know if I can do (SPG is prob the most likely to stick around because of their versatility)
Chase Hyatt,BA,UA - meh for me at this point
Citi AA - want the new offer
NK MC - utter crap
Maybe cancel/maybe keep once fee comes:
Delta Plat - is it still worth spending $50k on her to get 20k mqm/70k peso?
The LUT companion ticket is good though(for now).
Chase Sapphire Pref - everyone loves it, though don't think i can spend enough to make it worthwhile from DTW on *A and still spend to get the MQM's on the delta amex.
Citi TYP - (companion pass is really good, prob makes annual fee worth it)
Amex Costco - keep
Cap1 Venture - no forex, 2%, easy redemption, nice reps, image card all +'s
Hard to decide.
