US Bank Flexpoints Special Offer
I just saw a special offer for the US Bank Flexpoints special offer. You have to spend $2500 to qualify for a 17,500 bonus.
Their system is a system of points rather than miles. You have to spend them before you cancel the card or they go goodbye. The 20,000 points that they give you is equal to $400 in airfare. They also give you a $25 credit for baggage fees as well.
It also mentioned on the ad that it is an in branch special and it expires on the 4th of October. You probably won't be able to find it online. I didn't have a chance to visit with a banker in the office so I wasn't able to get all of the details. Anyone else taken a look at this?

Be very careful with US bank. they are very conservative with lending. I recently applied for a TACA card and got rejected. When I called up, the lady did not even take my info, but just asked me if I have applied for any cards recently. I said yes and she said that is why I was rejected. I think they are aware of all the recent specials and are not interested in those running after just the bonuses.

Haven't seen it yet. I've had a Flexperks card for 10+ years. I love being able to buy the ticket and earning EQM's. They are always offering free ways to earn credits. Just got 250 for signing up to erwards. But it was targeted so I couldn't use it on my wifes. Last month she got 250 points for spending $100. I'll be stopping at US Bank Monday to see if I can open another card? Thanks

Just would like to reinforce UA Fan's comments. The only time I have ever been turned down for a card was with US Bank Flexperks. The reason given was too many applications and I had only had two new cards in the last six months. It's a excellent program (my wife has the card and we've been able to match airfares almost to the dollar with the $200/$400/etc, levels) and the earning of miles on the tickets is a big plus. But beware if you have other recent credit card applications.

Thanks for the warning about US Bank being conservative with new credit card apps. Definitely going to put this one on hold for a while then. Hopefully they'll have another bonus promo after some of these inquiries fall off my credit report.

My opinion is this is the best rewards travel card for those whom primarily redeem for domestic coach travel.
It's 2 points/dollar if you use them correctly, + a "stipend" in each trip to cover bags, + a low annual fee ($35 on mine) which is regularly covered/waived from spend promos in the mail.
Best of all, all flights earn MQM/miles and are upgrade eligible since they are, well, purchased tickets. Did I also mention you can book on any airline?
If you're looking for premium international travel, this card is not for you, but for visiting the family each year for free, it is awesome.

May I inquire how you've had a FlexPerks card for 10+ years? This card is US Banks' replacement for the NW WorldPerks card. DL/NW merger was not approved until October 29, 2008, and the FlexPerks card wasn't available until 2009.

Wouldn't the Citi ThankYou card be better for this purpose? Higher signon bonuses, and the same scheme -- you can use the points as $ on their travel web site, plus earn miles + EQMs.

TYP are worth less than 2 cents/point that flexpoints are. All other factors are equal.

1. You can redeem on prior purchases. This helps you earn miles on the purchase price of the redemption. If you buy tickets on Cap 1's link to Priceline, you will earn another 4 points per $. So its 6 points/$.
2. I once saw a price on Amex's website being higher than on kayak. So after that I don't like cards that insist on buying the ticket from their website. Since you can buy anywhere, one can redeem for priceline purchases which are cheaper or prepay car rentals (cheaper, but possible only when you buy from their websites)
3. Using flexperks you can redeem 20K points for upto $400 in tickets. If you buy a $350 ticket, you are actually losing losing points. You have to spend 20K on Flexperks to get a $350 ticket, but only 17.5K on Cap 1 (since they give 2 pts/$ on all purchases).
4. If you don't like paying an annual fee, one can downgrade to the no fee card that gives 1.25pt/$.

I don't know about that user, but I've had this card for our small business since 2008 or 2009. This was before I knew what I know now. We racked up a pretty penny of points on it. Rewards system works well.

I've the Flexperks card - the last time I checked, you can also exchange your points for a visa card, ratio of 1:1 besides using it for air ticket.
For those of you who are afraid your points are gone once you cancel your cc, you can transfer it to another Flexperk member and the transfer is instantaneous and no transfer cost.
Cons: Redemptions start at 20k points for a $400 ticket; even if air ticket cost $100, you still pay 20k. So, for a ticket that is slightly above $400, it will be at the next tier.
One more thought, it gives me 3x rewards for charity, so it has been my go-to card for any donations.

FlexPerks has been most beneficial for international use--flights, rental cars, and hotels.
For domestic use it is, in my opinion, basically as good as any other Signature Visa.
