It's 2 points/dollar if you use them correctly, + a "stipend" in each trip to cover bags, + a low annual fee ($35 on mine) which is regularly covered/waived from spend promos in the mail.

Best of all, all flights earn MQM/miles and are upgrade eligible since they are, well, purchased tickets. Did I also mention you can book on any airline?

If you're looking for premium international travel, this card is not for you, but for visiting the family each year for free, it is awesome.
Do they have many 2 point categories? I think the Cap 1 Venture card is better:

1. You can redeem on prior purchases. This helps you earn miles on the purchase price of the redemption. If you buy tickets on Cap 1's link to Priceline, you will earn another 4 points per $. So its 6 points/$.

2. I once saw a price on Amex's website being higher than on kayak. So after that I don't like cards that insist on buying the ticket from their website. Since you can buy anywhere, one can redeem for priceline purchases which are cheaper or prepay car rentals (cheaper, but possible only when you buy from their websites)

3. Using flexperks you can redeem 20K points for upto $400 in tickets. If you buy a $350 ticket, you are actually losing losing points. You have to spend 20K on Flexperks to get a $350 ticket, but only 17.5K on Cap 1 (since they give 2 pts/$ on all purchases).

4. If you don't like paying an annual fee, one can downgrade to the no fee card that gives 1.25pt/$.
