AAdvantage Shopping/Confirmation?
We recently used aadvantage emall (or whatever the exact name is) as a portal to obtain an increased mileage multiplier through an online merchant. Is there a way to confirm that you've used the portal? We clicked through to the merchant's site, but there seems to be no confirmation that we are going to get the mileage bonus. Also, how fast to the additional miles post to the aadvantage account?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'm not sure how long it takes for miles from an actual purchase to post, but the miles for the toolbar installation took well over three months to post. I was very frustrated. I don't think any of my miles from the search results posted yet either.

I moved over from Delta to AA and so far am loving AA. However, their shopping site is just simply HORRIBLE!! I have purchased about $3500 thru the site since February and about half of the purchases are not showing up at all. Others seem to show up as pending within a few weeks then remain as pending for several weeks.
I have contacted the shopping site directly to ask for credit and never once gotten anything other than a scripted response which had nothing to do with my question, and that is when they have bothered to respond at all.
So.... I have begun filming all purchases, so I have proof that I have gone thru the website and I plan on bugging AA until I receive my credits. What a shame that they are doing business with such a lousy company.

As far as a real-time confirmation that the trackback URL is working, no there is no way as you are shopping to know 100% that it is going to work. Once you make a purchase you should see the purchase show up in the My Account tab found at the top right of the AA e-mall website. Purchases take a minimum of 45 days to post to your account (AKA for you to receive your miles)

Install the AAdvantage Toolbar.
When you are shopping at a participating website, the toolbar shows "Earning Miles". When you are not shopping at a participating website, it shows "Not Earning".
Often times you don't even have to link through the AA shopping portal. For example you can enter Kohls.com and a little popup says "Click here" to earn miles. After you click it shows "Earning Miles" in the toolbar.
A word of caution - some merchants require you to link through the AA portal in order to earn miles. But many do not, like Kohls.com. If you are required to link through the AA portal, the popup will let you know, you link through the portal, then you see "earning miles".
I've gotten many miles by shopping online and it's to the point I don't even worry about verifying most of the time. After several weeks the miles show up.

Vesdia started in the fall of 2009 and the result has been abysmal. I suggest you keep good records of the purchases made through the site. I love the idea of taking an image of the AA portal as you click through, as on at least one occasion, Vesdia replied that they had no evidence that we'd done so when we most assuredly had.
Please sure to close all other windows before clicking through, as the last cookie counts and the purchase could be credited to some other site than AA.

Recently got an email from AA that my miles for J&R purchases were on their way. Still have to wait though. In the past, when there has been a problem, i.e. wrong number of miles, or no miles, I have contacted AAdvantage CS and they straightened things out quickly, plus a little somthing for the effort.

Strangely I guess I am the odd one out here. Miles post to my a/c every other week. They post earlier if you use Cit AA card (within a week). When using BA visa it takes two weeks.
I am not sure if I am lucky because of the cc used.

I don't use the card I registered as normally I'm trying to get a certain spend on a promo card. Even if I use a store charge card, ie. Macy's, on the AA site, my miles post at or around this cards closing date.
Be careful using the back arrow. I've heard that can negate the link between your store site and the shopping portal.

I love AA's shopping portal. I have never installed the toolbar, even though they had a bonus attached (I've had lousy luck with add on toolbars). Butttt, I use AA's portal often. Miles post around the same time as my cc closes.

I've had great success with the portal, even if the miles sometimes take a while to post. Fwiw, I always clear cookies from the site I am about to shop from before even logging on to the portal, only link out via the red "Shop Now" button and make sure the portal and the website I am shopping from are the only two tabs/windows I have open, whether in Firefox or IE.
Generally, I notice miles are posting to my shopping account faster than they were earlier in the year.
@ingridhughes what you are describing sounds like a miles deduction for returns. Btw, a belated welcome to FlyerTalk!
