AA/One World: 2017-2018 Consolidated Mileage/Status/Challenge Runs help needed
.Requesters and responders, please read this wiki before posting.
.
In order to organize Mileage/Status/Challenge Run threads, the Moderators have decided to create a consolidated thread. This is the thread for American Airlines.
For each request:
- do a search on your departure airport(s) to see if there's a MR already posted that might fit your need
- if you don't find what you need, post your request using the standardized format shown below in this wiki
- it's nice form to acknowledge the responder with a post indicating whether the assistance worked for you or not. This helps everyone learn about successful runs
- if several days have gone by and you have not received a reply, bump up your original post with a (gentle) re-ask. It might be your post was missed in the fray
- quote the original request
- include the route cities, price, airline, cabin/class, EQMs/EQDs, and dates for the solution(s) found
- whenever possible, include a link to the solution as found on Google Flights, or attach as screen print of the solution if from another source
_________________________________________________
For each request, use this format as shown. A glossary follows to clarify each entry.
Departure Airport(s):
EQMs or EQSs Needed:
EQDs Needed:
Max Budget:
Available Travel Dates:
Max # Travel Nights:
AA only, or Partners Okay:
Have Chinese Visa? (Y/N):
If there is additional information you'd like to share that is pertinent to your request, feel free to add it after this standardized request format.
_________________________________________________
GLOSSARY:
Departure Airport(s): list the airport codes of any airports you can depart from, identifying preferred airports if any
EQMs or EQSs Needed: the number of each/either that you need to reach status. Please be as precise as possible, as some MRs can be within a few of your goal.
EQDs Needed: the number that you need to reach status. Please be as precise as possible, as some MRs can be within a few of your goal.
Max Budget: the maximum amount you're willing to spend to reach status. Less is always preferable, but a max is an important factor. Please make this a realistic number for your goal.
Available Travel Dates: list the range of dates you're available. The more you list, the better your chances of getting a good MR.
Max # Travel Nights: the maximum number of nights you're willing to be away. The nights might be at the destination or at a layover city. If cannot be gone overnight at all, list 0 or "day run only". Again, please make this realistic for your goal.
AA only, or Partners Okay: if you want to only AA-coded flights (e.g. for upgrades, etc), then list "AA only". If you are okay with flying on partners (especially useful for EQD runs), then list "either".
Have Chinese Visa? (Y/N): if you have a Chinese visa that will be valid at the time of the MR, then list "Y". Many good MRs have destinations in China, but you need a visa for those destinations.
(Note: Added this info from the OP to wiki for greater visibility to posters.)

Need 16,250 EQM's for EP, ok on EQD's....LAX based
I've used up all my SWUs (on TATL travel, believe or not) and I'll be busy on the QR SAI golden ticket from Nov. 16-Dec.4. I can spend up to $1600, ideally in J (obviously) but could handle Y if broken up. I don't think I can handle another LAX-HKG in Y . Any ideas?

I am looking to do same day mileage run from SAT on Friday OCT 13.
I will be short around 5000 miles for EXP Status for this year end and wanted to see if I can cover some mileage.
I am looking at this SAT-DFW-SEA-DFW-SAT for 390 dollars which is 4320 EQM. Does anybody has any other suggestions which can fetch more mileage

Looking for a same day run to top me off as EXP before end of year. Had a couple business trips cancel and not sure what will fill the gap.
Departure Airport: DFW
Miles Needed: 4800 EQMs (I'm OK on EQD)
Required Spend or Budget: cheap?
Available Travel Dates: Any Saturday, Sunday starting 21 Oct. Same day turns preferred, not 100% reqd.
Required Metal or Codeshares okay: All Oneworld Okay
Could do in two trips if necessary.

Aa: Ord-phx-lax-hkg-sin-hkg-lax-ord - $1058; 21,371 eqm
I'm a relatively newbie when it comes to mileage runs. Without doing anything unusual I'll finish the year as a Plat+ on AA and will be about 17-18k from ExPlt. Never having had ExPlt, I'm not quite sure it's worth it - the new Plat+ will give me automatic upgrade requests and won't require any of those 500 mile upgrade counts (which are $40/ea). 80-90% of my travel these days is domestic. The System Wide Upgrades will be nice for my few international flights. I'm based in Chicago, which is somewhat ironic - I'd easily have ExPlt if I was based in a non-hub city as all of my flights would have required the to/from that non-hub city. Anyway, why go after ExPlt? About half of my flights are hub to hub and the limited upgrades on those flights seem to go to the ExPlts. I get upgraded on the regional, non-hub flights pretty frequently, so I'm somewhat ambivalent about ExPlt. I don't care too much about the frequent flyer miles - I've got tons of miles banked and could probably take the family on a trip to Europe in 1st class if we felt like doing this. This is more about working towards upgrades as an ExPlt. Worth it?
Having said that, I goofed around with Google flights tonight, not really knowing all that much about how to do creative searches like some of you. The flight I describe above is pretty grueling, and is flying most of a weekend to get those 21k EQMs, which will bring me over the ExPlt finish line. I leave on a Friday morning early and get back pretty early on Monday. The longest layover is about ten hours, shortest is two & a half hours. I'm not really worried about making connections or anything like that. No hotel time, which kind of blows, but I can sleep on planes with no problem. I'll probably feel like crap on Monday and sleep all day Monday, but I'm thinking about it. Heck, once I book this, I might use miles to upgrade to business... although not completely sure I understand all the rules for that.
My question for the forum is whether 21k EQMs on American for $1058 is a worthwhile thing? I’m good to go on EQD. Not tied to this itinerary, just looking for a cheap and relatively painless way to knock out 18k EQM.
thx, danbrew

This will get you 6,800 EQM. Not a great value for the marginal 2500 EQM, though.

Do you have any other good same day mileages runs (if I am not able to take this on Friday Oct 13) suggestions for US (no international trips) trips on any Friday from AUS or SAT.

danbrew: AA's EXP used to be a great status but, like everything else, they have dumbed it down. The only advantage over PLT+ would be 4 SWUS (which can be difficult to use) and higher priority in tight situations.
Your proposed MR (Ord-phx-lax-hkg-sin-hkg-lax-ord - $1058) would be brutally grueling, to put it mildly. Whether it is worth the cost / trouble or not has to be a personal decision. For myself, I wouldn't bother unless I could turn it into a meaningful vacation in SE Asia (at least 1-2 days rest in a nice place). As you say, you are doing fine as PLT+. Good luck.
