I suggest going through LAX-SYD-DPS and DPS-SIN on KLM. There are some really great fares.

How many MQM are you talking about and what is cpm cost?

checked fares on a flt from SMF LAX which was delayed about 4:15. Doing a MR on Mon SMF ATL DTW LGA DTW LAX SMF 6169 MQM for $271.40 4.4 cpm in about 24 hrs if no delays?? Will see, have been upgraded for whole route and there is a meal from DTW LAX, will see how it goes. Cheers

Singapore MR and System Wide Upgrades
 

I will be PM with Delta at the end of this month. I would like to use the system wide upgrades on my singapore MR in November. Will I still get the MQMs with Delta? Obviously I don't want to jeopardize that as it is the main if not sole purpose in going.
I know I have to upgrade to Y,B, or M class. Is that going to be significantly more expensive? Thoughts?

I'm just thinking how much nicer it would be to ride first class over coach (even though I know I can select Economy Comfort for free once Platinum)

YBM will be significantly more expensive -- minimum of double maybe triple for M and M no longer earns the 50% MQM bonus that it once did. And 4x the cheapest fare for B which will earn the extra MQMs.

Ok. So I guess it is not worth it and I should just get the full "coach experience" since the whole point was to earn as many SkyMiles as possible at minimal cost.

Report on MR SMF ATL DTW LGA DTW LAX SMF
 

SMF ATL DTW great, no problems but DTW LGA delayed 2 hours will miss LGA DTW flight so now for the changes, agent has following route available DTW JFK LAX SMF, first class not available from DTW JFK, but did get aisle seat up front, 3 hr layover in JFK, flight from JFK LAX is 767 DL 17 which continues on to SYD and have been upgraded to 5D which is window aisle as all seats are aisle and has lie flat seats which are great as long as you are not too wide. Food much better than in coach. Have lost upgrade from LAX SMF but talking with receptionist in SkyClub in JFK and call to reservations reinstates seat. This routing gives 3 more MQM than original routing from 6169 to 6172. Fare was $271.40 at 4.4 cpm not a true MR but better than the one to SIN and was in first class except for DTW JFK segment. Would be happy to do that run again if it becomes available for same fare - 24 hours - short and sweet. New terminal and SkyClub in JFK not open yet. Time for shower in ATL, 3 hour layover there. Fares too high for next few months, probably better in the fall.

There are two routings even though fares are the same, first thru JFK out and return, second out thru JFK and return thru ATL which yields 342 less MQM

Choose later flights to get these prices on return on some dates to get this price as earlier flight may be much more!

Fare for this routing is $1371.10. 20,635 MQM at 6.64 cpm for Nov 11 out ret Nov 14. Not as good as SIN routing which is $1315.30 for 25,318 MQM at 5.2 cpm
