Remember to try out Night Safari, my old US friend visited and said it was excellent. I have yet to try it myself... :(

For full experience of Singapore you need to go to Mustafa Centre and after that - to Gaylang, preferable after 7PM.
Geylang is not a bad location for a tourist: straight shot from SIN and good access to public transportation. |
love the night safari

the bird park is fun too. and the day zoo (next to the night safari) is wonderful. food is the best part of singapore. don't miss chili crab. Love pepper crab too. and the in airport (before you go through customs/immigration) transit hotel is a bargain, especially when arriving at 1am. great technology deals too. just be careful and know your US offerings and prices when shopping. enjoy! |

Anyone managed to find a routing of this originating out of MSP at all?
|
May 6-9. $1582.40. 22,194 MQM 7.13 cpm
MSP JFK NRT SIN NRT JFK MSP Going thru ATL on same date is much more, try different dates and select flights by schedule and not price otherwise you may not get the JFK routing, try other days as well or else fly to SFO and start there but that will add more time. Routing SFO JFK NRT SIN NRT JFK SFO picked to max out MQM. 25,318 Did MR in Dec from SMF ATL NRT SIN NRT ATL SMF is only 24,532 MQM but saves me the trip to SFO 2.5 hrs and parking and having to drive home after 72 hrs of a MR. Only 1 hr drive from SMF and parking is less as well and it is only 786 miles less. See what you can work out. Have a good trip. My trip in Dec was on FlexPerks, 70,000 points, and my only costs were parking at $10 a day! This the card from NW, if you make charitable contributions, you get triple by using the card. I use it when I can't use AMX. Go for it. |
Looks like it's also good for a few other destinations like BKK and PEK. SLC-JFK-NRT-PEK r/t is $1238 all-in.
Myself I'm not using it as a mileage run, but a cheap way to get to DPS. |

Wow, this fare brings memories. One of my first MRs was a trip LAX-SIN during the 2002 SARS epidemic. Actually two trips in a month -- and I guess not true MRs because I stayed a week on each one.
LAX-SIN was about $380 rt on NW, and 4 and 5 star hotels in SIN were $39/$49 a night of so on Priceline. I actually booked/flew LAX-BKK first for about $450 and then flew north and spent a week at the Thai Elephant Conservation Center in Lampang and Chang Mai. While in Chang Mai the SIN fare was posted and I booked that one as well for a few weeks after getting back from Thailand. Now $1200 is a bargain -- of course, adding the extra legs across the US. tom |
Singapore is a great city to visit and it really deserves a few days to visit, it is great for a MR but if you can take few says it is a beautiful and fascinating and clean Asian city, one of my favorite

Hey so how was this? I'm doing it later this month. Any tips?

How long will you be there and what are your interests? They have an excellent zoo, also the Night Safari at the zoo, Jurong Bird Park, some museums, casinos for gambling, the Singapore flyer (like the London I) only larger, Sentosa Island. You can take an excursion to Malaysia across the causeway to Johor Baru or take a ferry to Bataam Island which belongs to Indonesia. There are all kinds of shopping on Orchard Road but prices in US are just as good on many things. There is a very large store on Serangoon Road called Mustafa Centre which is like Walmart, can get watches, perfume, luggage and almost anything you might want; electronics and computers are just as good in the US, is crowded on the weekends and is open 24/7. You can get there on the MRT (subway) or you can use taxis which are inexpensive compared to the US. The also have an aquarium on Sentosa. Take a look at the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board website and there will be lots of brochures you will find at the airport. If you have any other questions please let me know. Can't tell you about restaurants unless you are interested in vegetarian ones.
