All around good deal between Newark and Port of Spain on UA for $300. Available on the nonstop, but also good via IAH for a ton more miles. Sample Oct 2-4

great find! very tempting especially since this can be booked as one-ways and i have 2 residual e-certs i have to burn in the next couple of months, but hotels aren't cheap near POS, nor on apparently safer tobago (the interisland flight is only $50 r/t).
unfortunately (at least in december) the daily IAH-POS flight arrives at 2100 and the POS-IAH flight leaves at 0830. i wish the times instead maximized time on the island.

FWIW this also works from LGA (UA, AA) and JFK (AA, B6). UA has the most favorable routing though...AA routes via MIA (with a possible stop in DCA, CLT, MCO, or the like for only taxes), while B6 is direct from JFK.

Just a comment. To those who haven't been, POS airport and Port of Spain in general can be a predatory environment. I always got the feeling even in the airport that there were people around that would cull confused people out of the herd. Watch yourself.
There is an airport Holiday inn express that is not too bad with a shuttle. I have stayed there several times, but it is spendy for a hix. To be honest for a mileage run, I would only do a quick turn around or I would fly on to Tobago. The Grenadines are close too.
