Had a few of these for the remainder of the year. Noticed United canceled direct flight from EWR to POS (one that leaves EWR around midnight and arrives at POS around 5-6 am) with Sat departure. Changed a few to the same itinerary but Friday department and one to have extended routing to max miles. If you booked direct EWR-POS flight on Saturday, go check your reservations -

might have to book IAH-EWR to take advantage

I'm new around here, but trying to make a push this year... might have to book IAH-EWR and make a few of these runs... I think I can get 3 of these runs in within a week and still have a little time for some fun in the city.

Best I can find from the west coast is in the $600 range. Anyone see better? Thanks for the help.

After waiting about 20 mins for the UA escort, I was taken over to baggage claim (I told him I had none), then past the baggage claim exit where you give the top half of the stamped immigration form, then over to the UA counter (I told him I already had my next leg ticket). He left me there, so I just made my way over to International Gates. I showed the officers there my ticket and passport, and I get back to the place where I just walked through a few minutes ago. It is possible to skip the baggage claim area and just walk straight from immigration over to the gates.

Pics: Everyone walking towards the baggage claim, but if you turn around and go up these escalators, you can get to the gates
Three questions for those who have already done this on an instant turnaround:
  1. Planning on flying in from EWR and back to IAH doing a turnaround within 100 minutes -- shouldn't be a problem, right?
  2. If you turn around and go up the escalators shown in the photo taken by miasmal, I gather you will still be outside security and have to clear security again before making it to the IAH gate, correct? Or is there a way to not exit the secure area and make your way directly to the gate?
  3. Any new advice on what explanation you should give to immigration? Should I just say I'm on an MR, or say that I'm here for the day (well actually 100 minutes )?
Appreciate any insights.

No problem. Best to have your return tickets with you, i.e. get all your tickets when you begin your trip.

The area where the escalators are in the picture is already inside security. It's right after immigration. If you walk past the escalators then turn left to baggage claim, then you'll exit security after that.

You can tell the truth like I did and (potentially) waste about 30 minutes waiting and having an escort walk you past baggage claim and security and onward to ticketing. Since you already have a return ticket, this is for naught. But there wasn't a huge line for security to go back in (when I went), so shouldn't be a big deal. Explain that you know the airport and have a return ticket home.

You can say that you're staying 'for today' for business ... but then they might ask you where you're staying, with what company, who you are, etc. and you may have to fabricate some story. Probably better to tell the truth and that you're not the only one doing a MR.

Looking at doing this Oct 5/6. Leave EWR at 820 am and arrive POS (via IAH) at 745 pm. Then return flight back at 1218 am so layover for 4.5 hours.

Anyone done this routing and times? Feedback? Anyone want to join me...

Can also just say I'm meeting someone for a dinner there

Why take chance lying? You have plenty of time. If caught lying you will seem like a criminal and just cause more headache for yourself.

Thought I'd bump this thread and see if anyone else out there is crazy enough to be doing an overnight on either Sept 13-14 or 20-21. If so, shoot me a PM and maybe we can share a meal.

Planning to do this late Oct. Did you get the low $295 fate on UA for Sep? Now lowest is $370 which is still decent CPM
