I saw that same deal. I tried EWR to IST on the same date and it costs $655.90. Not sure why it cost more, especially when I am starting my departure from the east coast instead of the midwest.

$575 AI RT IAD to IST on Turkish which gives you 100% EQM on United, I believe
10,481 miles = 5.49 CPM

No need to face down militant Canadian border guards this year.
I'd be up for something. No suggestions at this point as I have not been to IST previously.

Agreed. We did this same deal back in February - did a long weekend in IST, stayed at the DoubleTree. Good value for money, and within walking distance of most of the tourist sites in the Old City.
FYI - Istanbul can get pretty cold in winter so be prepared. Good news is that in the winter there's easy/uncrowded access to all the best sites...and the restaurants really welcome your business. We had a great time.

I saw that LIS fare and am thinking about it... I only see it on the Turkish website and it was not clear what fare class it books into.

Am here in IST right now on the UA EWR-IST deal, although I should have waited for the DL match since I am shooting for DM this year. Mrs. Outoftown joined me and am thoroughly enjoying our first time visit to IST. We are staying at the Hilton for 5 nights, bookended with the IST Airport Marriott Courtyard, which has a free shuttle for those of you keeping it strictly an MR. Visa fee is US $20, payable prior to customs.
UA flight 904 was a pleasant surprise. I don't normally fly United, but it was nice to see free movies in the back. I am also glad the UA FAs kicked those in economy that tried to move up to economy plus back to coach.
5029 miles posted today for the outbound in my UA account.

Please use that thread for discussion of that MR Deal or booking of TK/UA fares/flights, so that this thread can focus on the DL/KLM Skyteam fare. Thanks for understanding that there are several threads on different deals via IST right now.
If (or when) this particular deal is gone, please use the Alert button to report it gone.

I'm heading out of ORD on ST with a similar schedule (11-7 ret 11-12). I opted for the 13 hour layover in AMS. I agree with the other post that we should start a meetup thread if there isn't already one.

I agree about the fish sandwiches an earlier poster mentioned. Just stay away from that nasty corn-on-the-cob sold on the street. It looks delicious, but somehow they manage to both burn it outside and not cook it completely inside.
For housing, I was really happy with a deal found through Hotwire. I reviewed it on www.betterbidding.com, but a quickie here:
A block from the Blue Mosque.
Easy/cheap/frequent tram transport everywhere.
Huge breakfast spread AND "tea and cookies" in the late afternoon that included nuts/fruit/meat rolls/etc.
Free WiFi and computer available in lobby.
Wonderful boat rides up the Bosphorus and other interesting destinations
I was worried about the reception single traveling non-Muslim(no head scarf) older women might receive, but never had a single moment of discomfort. In fact, felt very safe, comfortable and warmly received.
