If you are a football fan, Marriott had a package two years ago (I am sure they would do the same now for the right amount of points) where for something around 1M points you could go to the Superbowl, all expenses paid including tickets for 2. USE YOUR POINTS!!!

In another thread on this subject, someone said they just had an agreement with their Ex that she could redeem a total of X miles/points out of the account in future years. She'd call when she wanted a ticket (I believe they were working with airline miles), he'd book the ticket.

Been there did this
OK I am going to recommend something completely different - give your wife half the value of the accounts. Later on (perhaps many many years) you will feel good about taking the high road.
You will sleep better at night and feel better about yourself if you do the right thing.

Obviously you are still married! Check back in if things should change......
I just spit my drink all over myself when I read this one.. you can't be serious on this.. unless she earned them thru her travel.. which would change my tune.. maybe
Depends on how you look at it: I think my wife actually "earns" the miles when I travel. She juggles everything for our kids and our life while I am away - sometimes 11-12 days at a time. Carpool, sports, meetings, meal time, bedtime, morning rush, kids have broken bones while I'm gone......The miles are officially mine but wow does she "earn" them, meaning the travel is actually harder on her. In my case I'd give her 1/2 or maybe all the miles or let her redeem them - but who would watch the kids? I'll stay happily married.

If I was on my deathbed (and not married), I would give my passwords to my family and/or friends and tell them to empty the airline and hotel accounts. Heck, I might even ask for a phone and start booking trips for them.
Most airlines and hotels do not allow points/miles to pass as inheritance because they see death as the ultimate breakage opportunity. As for divorce, I think the potential problems from contentious separations makes it unappealing for the programs since they would need a desk of reps (extra overhead) just to handle everything that comes from divorce cases.

As for a possible divorce.. I've already told my wife that whichever of us decides to 'leave' leaves the points too.

DWNewman,
You are very wise. ^^ Also remind your daughter how we don't even have to pay tax when we're staying for free.

An incentive to stay married!

Haha, that's true, but then she'd lose elite status!
I'm sure lots of us are worth more dead than alive because of our insurance policies.

After all the divorce nightmare stories I've heard, I guess if the only sticky issue is points, you're in pretty good shape!
