I kind of admire the bigguy...he knows his way around the hotel system and won't take any crap from those at the check-in counter that are 1) out and out lying to you or 2) doing their best to screw you out of a (deserved) upgrade or gift or whatever.

I say he can call those that fall in to those categories anything he wants.

The FD person fell into my chimp catagory-not all MI emplyees do this. Those that are well trained, have smarts, and deal with customers without lying are not labeled chimps. They are ,unfortunately, rare in my dealings with Marriott
Now back to the topic.
My apologies if I am off the mark. My intention was to let you know that it is in poor form to label anyone a chimp. If you label them as sub-standard employees, I have no problem.

While it is true that you can label anyone you like a chimp, there are many that will take offense and let you know each time that it is inappropriate.

Also, I have nothing against you personally. Over the years, you have added a lot to this forum and I have enjoyed many of your posts.

Those of us who are "Marriott sympathizers" seem to have a great attitude and in return get great service. There will always be exceptions but by in large I think this is true.

I'm a 100+ night/year guy over a decade and haven't had a tenth of the problems you seem to have. Also I've tried the other brands out there but I'm always happy to come back to Marriott when my client/schedule allows for it. Maybe my experience at other chains is why I'm happy at Marriott....for me and the areas I travel they are leaps and bounds above the others.

YMMV

*I have no clue what DYKWIA is.
Most of the threads citing Marriotts decline in service are not started by me.So I so not see myself as a lone unhappy prophet in the desert.Plenty of others here are noticing the decline-and commenting.Glad they work for you,but silence does not get problems fixed.

So are you at least trying other hotel chains out?

I've not said once that everything is perfect. With a group of travelers that travel as much as most of us do there will always be problems. But as I said before, some will have more problems then others....you seem to fall directly into that category.

But go ahead and get out there a little bit. If you find something better do yourself a favor and stick with it.

Trust me-I am" getting out there a little bit"I have top status at SPG and Hyatt-both of which treat me better.
I have a ton of Marriott points-and I am spendig them. But till they are gone I am involved with Marriott.

Also-why should I leave versus Marriott fixing what is broken within their system? What good does that do for my fellow flyertalkers?None.
So if people do not demand change(actually in this case restoration of a once very good program)then the program continues to spiral downwards and at one point even the "Marriott is good enough for me-love it or leave it"type folks are left with a poor product.

Also,as much as I can find wrong and faultering in Marriott there are some properties which are still worthy of my time and money. And Hyatt/SPG do not have the coverage yet that Marriott does-so sometimes the choice comes down to Hilton(not a fan)ICHG(not a fan)or Marriott(a fan-but one with a voice and a memory)

As much as you would like me to fall into the "love it or leave it"camp for now it just ain't gonna happen.Marriott has fallen from my number one choice of lodging to number three-but they do get my $$$ at times.

So-you are just gonna have to live with me. my opinions ,and my announcements of fault where I find it.Trust me-the "problem"here is not me.

I can live with you. I actually find all the complaining and name calling you do fairly amusing. AND it makes me value my comfortable, no problem stays that much more.

I'm sure you don't think the problem is with you. And it may not be in most cases. All I'm going off of is your posts (again the name calling) and making a judgement as compared to the 100+ nights/year I spend (and have spent for years).

There are too many of us, with too many nights, to make me think we are just the lucky ones. Some people just like to piss and moan more then others.

If you treat people at the hotel like you post then leaving will actually do us some good. I talk to plenty of hotel staff that can't believe how some elite act (Again going from just your name calling posts I'm guessing you are in this batch of elites).

Maybe you are totally different in real life and just the anonymity of Flyertalk makes you feel comfortable calling people names and the like. I should probably give you the benefit of the doubt on this but its hard when the word chimp comes up so often in your posts.

Edited to add that I don't want to get into a big pissing match with you over this. My suggestion to move on was me trying to be helpful. Its just not worth the stress if you really have that many problems/dislikes of anything, not just hotels. I'll admit that I'm probably a lot more laid back then most so I just can't get too worked up over the small stuff.

No pissing match.
You do not know me-and most of your assumptions about me are 100% wrong.
Glad you find value in the status quo,I guess my life would be a lot simpler if I did not ask for a little more out of life than the status quo.

A chaque son gout.

Sticking to the facts presented in this particular case, I totally support the Big Guy here. The OP caught the FD person in a lie. The OP had to go out of his way to claim what was rightfully his and he did all the right moves in advance in the system setup by Marriott. And the room magically appeared!

It matters not what chain told the lie or what your chain preferences or posting history, but a lie is a lie.

As exclusively a Marriott PLT, the sad part is that I am used to hearing NO frequently (a CL room, a room I've stayed in the past, a view, a balcony, a request to be moved or placed on an empty floor) and the "we're sold out" card is often used. I'm not demanding the impossible, just inquiring of something that might afford me a better nights sleep.

Stories like this confirm what I've felt all along, a decent percentages of denials are outright lies because the FD person doesn't feel like undoing your preselected room regardless of your preferences and pre-sent note requests.

I agree with the BG's point - we are so used to being lied at at times that we don't even blink.

Does that also apply to guests? How about using an unauthorized rate? Mixing uncombinable promotions? Someone else using your account, absent you?

...and that's certainly why I stuck by my guns. I don't have issues that often, but when I do, I make sure to take advantage of the programs benefits when I've funnelled so much money into Bill & family's pockets over the last few years...

This is a person working at a front desk who told a Plat nothing was available. Realized their mistake/error and then corrected the issue. OP did not have to call a manager, create a scene, and {I am sorry cargojon}, even 'work a little harder than you should have" to get the King. WHICH, by the way, yo admit would not even have been a problem if Mrs.CJ was not with you.

So - I don't know - are we not going a little overboard with the concept of BS/lies/getting screwed????

Please - are we all so caught up in what "we should get" that there is no longer any possiblity in our minds that someone has made a genuine error?:

I have only been a Plat for 2 years. If this is what happens to a person when they maintain status, you can keep it.

I have been involved in PM's with most of you. You are all so much better than this......

It should be considerate guests and benefits.

As always Sophie you put it much better then I do. My only problem with this entire thread is how quickly we get into calling people names. I'm not sure if it makes us feel better to do so or what (are we that small as a group?). If that = "getting more out of life" then I'll also pass.
