I'm not sure if this is the right thread or not - my apologies in advance. I've never used the LNF guarantee so I was hoping to get some advice from the folks here. Here's my situation:

I checked a rate at the Sydney Marriott on Marriott.com for some dates in May and the lowest I could find is around $250 US per night. I then went to Hotels.com and searched for 5* hotels for the same dates and the Sydney Marriott came up as $175 US per night. There was a notice on the listing that said "Special Rate Sale" so I was wondering if this would qualify for the LNF guarantee. If so, that would bring the total price per night down to around $131 US per night which I think is a very good deal. I would think that this should qualify since it seems to meet all of the requirements of the guarantee (i.e. available to the public, not a special group, etc.) Is my thinking on this correct? Are rates found on Hotels.com eligible for the LNF guarantee?

On another note, if the above rate is guaranteed and I get the LNF price, if I need to cancel can I still do so withouth penalty? I need to get all my ducks in a row before I can confirm the flights, time off work, etc. but I'd like to book the hotel if I can get a good price.

Any feedback is much appreciated. TIA!

It must be the same type of room, the same ratetype (same cancel deadline etc.) and the comparison site cannot operate on a voucher system (such as GTA). Hotels.com is likely a pre-pay rate and Marriott.com is not. You can always book a refundable rate and play the game to see if they accept the comparison ... sometimes it is close and they still accept it (or simply don't realize the minor difference). The LNF rate will have the same cancel deadline as the originally booked rate.

As far as I can tell the room types are the same (Deluxe - 1 king) and the rate is the same (both say "Deluxe Room - Weekend Rate"). There is a difference in the cancellation date of one day - hotels.com says that this property allows cancellations up to 6 pm on 5/28 and Marriott.com says up to 6 pm on 5/29 (I would be arriving on 5/29). Although hotels.com is charged up front, it states on the booking page that they do not charge a change/cancellation fee which would indicate to me that I would be able to get a full refund if say, I had to cancel two weeks prior to the check-in. I may just book the Marriott.com reservation and then submit the LNF form to see if it qualifies. Since this stay is still 3 months away I have plenty of time to cancel if things don't work out.

If Marriott does match the LNF guarantee and I get the rate for 25% less than hotels.com, I might even be willing to overlook the 1.5% "merchant fee" that the hotels in Australia are charging if I pay by CC. :)

You might want to check Marriott.com again. If I understand correctly you are looking for 1 room in Warsaw checking in on 10/9/2010 for 1 night. I just checked Marriott.com and the senior rate comes up as 268 PLN (Poland Zlotych) which converts to around $92.32 USD. Are you sure it was $268 USD or 268 PLN?
