Multiple guests with one MR #. double credit?

Ok... this will be a dumb question but i've gotta ask it...

Will be travelling to a Mariott property for 6 nights at the end of the month on business and am bringing a colleague w/ me. My CC is being used for the trip and we'll both be staying at the hotel... If I use my Mariott Rewards # for the reservation for both of us, do I get credit for both of us?

He'll be travelling for a week to the same property a couple weeks after this but assume I can't use my Marriott # for his reservation..

I'll be heading back two weeks after that, so I grab more room points with that future stay...

Appreciate any help on the multiple guests and one MR # dilemma...

Thanks

Not only has this question been answered here dozens of times, but amazingly, the answer to your questions is readily available here:

While there have been reports here on FT of exceptions to the general point earning rules, those are rare and I would not count on that happening. The rules are found here on Marriott.com.

Regarding using your number for another's stay, in the past this has worked, but they plugged that hole last summer. It probably will not work now. Perhaps your coworker could get his own MR # and get some of the benefits of his time on the road?

Yes, you will get credit for both rooms. You can get credit for up to three rooms per the rules.

Also, in my experience, you can reserve a room in your name and add your colleague's name to the reservation using your MR #. Be sure that you have your colleague provide the credit card info, for your reservation or have him provide his CC info. at checkin. Upon checkout, fax a letter to the hotel requesting a copy of the folio with your colleague's name on it. See if the folio contains your MR # info. on it. If it does, the points for this stay should post to your account. If it doesn't usually, I would fax a copy of my confirmation along with the folio to MR and the points would post within 2-3 days.

Worked for me by accident in Feb.

I added a room for a coworker under my reservation - and apparently under my MR#.

He didn't change it - I got the points.

Jimorr67,

Booking for other colleagues has also helped me to accumulate multiple nights towards Elite membership or for other promotions. This will come in handy with the Megabonus Promotion.

Will Marriott remove points and nights retroactively?

I am in a sort of similar situation. I booked 4 nights for my mother at a FI. Since she was the one who would be staying and checking in, I made the reservation using my account, but changed the name of the guest staying to her name.

I didn't think I would get points or stay credit because I didn't stay and I didn't pay. But today, the 4 nights posted to my account and the points as well since my rewards number was attached when I made the original reservation. I hadn't expected the points to post at all from what I read previously. My mother doesn't care since she rarely stays in hotels.

I'm worried that Marriott will remove the credit from my accounts retroactively if they take a look at the reservation. Should I be expecting them to remove nights and points? Or was it a mistake on their part and it will stand?

I'm trying to make Gold and 4 extra nights would just mean 4 extra nights I'll be staying in a SPG property to get the bonuses instead of in Marriott.

Hello Bassmanben,

From what I understand, technically, you have to be staying at the hotel. I've had the same mistake happen over and over and over...you get the drift.
In my experience, they won't take back the points. My theory is that their Marriott Rewards (MR) computer system records the points based on whether the MR # was attached to the reservation. They have so many MR members to serve, they probably wouldn't notice any particular, individual account.

Earlier this year, I booked 3 rooms for 3 colleagues and I received all the points credit for their stay as well as nights credit per room; I received their points while I was staying at another Marriott in another city. By the way, I earned points on the additional hotel that I was in. I've had all these points ever since.

When I haven't received points for reservations that I booked for other colleagues, I usually fax a letter to the hotel requesting folios to be faxed to me. Then, I attach a note and faxed these along with a copy of the e-mail reservation confirmation(s) to MR indicating that I didn't receive points/nights credit for the reservations I made.

The results were that the points were posted to the account w/in 2 days.

Hope this helps ease your concern.

Marcell
