** On or before May 30th, 2018** - ALL Chase Marriott cardholders that held the card as of March 15th, 2018, will receive:
  • 1 Night Stay Certificate for a Category 1-5 Marriott Hotel
  • 15 Night Stay Credit towards elite status

** CHASE HAS CLOSED ACCOUNTS AS OF MARCH 15, 2018 **

By now you should have been notified that your Marriott Rewards® Visa® Credit Card will be closing on March 15, 2018. Here's what you need to know:

• CONTINUE EARNING.
You will still be able to continue to use your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card and earn points on eligible purchases through March 14, 2018. After that date, you will no longer be able to make purchases or earn points on your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card.

• USE YOUR POINTS.
This does not impact your Marriott Rewards account. You will still be able to access and use any points and benefits that you have earned.

If you have paid an annual fee for your card any time between April 2017 and December 2017, Chase Canada has said that they will give you a prorated rebate of the fee back as a statement credit on your account.

If, however, your annual renewal fee is due between January 2018 and March 2018, you will NOT have to pay it. You may continue to use your card until March 15, 2018

As a cardholder, you will still receive your 15 Elite Night Credits and Free Night Certificate, regardless of your anniversary date. They will be deposited into your Marriott Rewards account after March 14, 2018.

Existing Chase Marriott Visa cardholders will be given a special signup to the Amex SPG CC for 25,000 welcome points and $120/yr annual fee.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information below is left here for reference only, so that others who applied before the deadline can refer to the info.

If you find a working application link buried in this thread and apply through it don't be surprised if you do not get the advertised welcome bonuses.

  • Free night stay e-certificate Category 1-4 hotels upon approval for first-time Cardmembers - is NO LONGER OFFERED, as of October 1st, 2016

Tips:
  • Go to marriott.com and apply for a Marriott Rewards account first, and have the member/account number ready during application. If you did NOT do this then Chase will create an account for you - look for the numbers on the lower left of your new Visa card, it may be displayed there.
  • Spend at least $1 on your new card by the 9th of the month, so that the txn posts by the 11th onto your online account at Chase (https://online.chasecanada.ca).
  • Seemingly, all Canadian Chase Marriott Visa accounts cycle on the 11th of the month. Points are posted by Chase to Marriott.com and the 50K points will appear by the 18th or 19th of the month.
  • You will see the points posted on page 3 of your paper statement when it arrives in the postal mail. Chase does not provide Canadians with an online PDF statement, only transactions. If by the 19th you don't see points posted, double-check the Marriott Rewards number on your paper statement to ensure it matches your true account number, in case Chase messed up and created a new MR account on your behalf.
  • When setting up payment for the card at online banking, look for "MARRIOTT VISA" as the card name.
  • If using this card outside of Canada, ensure you prime the PIN onto the card at a CHIP/PIN terminal while IN Canada, before you leave for your trip. You cannot prime the card while in Europe (for eg.)
  • YMMV, but if you decide to cancel this card, it is advisable to do it WELL before the anniversary date, as Chase may not pro-rate a refund.
  • If you plan to use this card outside of Canada (no FX fees), you should call Chase to let them know, so your card won't get locked. I've never called when using it on extended travel in the US, but for sure I would call and let them know if I was going to use it elsewhere (Europe, Asia, Antarctica).
  • If you log out of MARRIOTT.COM and notice an 80,000 point offer, it is a USA-only offer.
  • You can find List of Marriott Hotels and their Categories via below searches

Effective today.

So my new strategy is the SPG Amex for all domestic Marriott and Starwood stays. And the Chase Marriott Visa for all international stays at either.
Exactly this. This is quite a game changer for Canadians. I have both these cards and will rack up some serious points. I used to use to use my Amazon card for international hotel stay purchases but now the Marriott card is a much better deal.

Does anyone know if this card has a referral program like the US version? (referral for the credit card itself, and not the Marriott Rewards program referral)

I've don't believe there's ever been a CC referral program for the Chase Marriott Visa. Not on GCR/RFD site either, for cashback.

Excessive Card Holds/Re-issues Because of "Fraud"

I have to say I'm not a fan of this card anymore. I've held it for 4 years or so and while I LOVE that it's a hotel reward card and that I save the 2.5 foreign txn fees, I am TIRED of Chase.

When I first got this card, they would sometimes put arbitrary 'fraud holds' on the card because of places I shopped (like Gamer stores, or small shops) and I'd have to call in to verify that I've shopped at those places to get the hold released.

But in the past year or so, I think I've had this card put on hold and reissued about 3 times due to 'fraud suspicion'. I had this happen again last week, where they put a hold on it just one day before I was supposed to go on a trip (where I'd be using this card exclusively). I had to call them to ask them to take the hold off for my trip, and that I'd re-issue it when I got back. So I did this, and when I did I asked them what fraud was suspected. They said they didn't know. Visa just told them my account was flagged. How? Why? For what? See - this is what pisses me off! Is it a specific store? Is it a website? Should I stop using this card at that store or website?! If there is a specific reason why my card needs to keep getting re-issued, maybe I should be aware of this, wouldn't you say? But they have NO IDEA why. Nothing. Visa just gives them a list and says, "re-issue these ones". So I don't have access to this card for 2 weeks now, have to update all of the websites that I have pre-approved transactions set up for this. Jeez...it's just such a pain every single effin time. But they've got NO INFO for me.

Any idea how I can find out why my card keeps needing to get re-issued? If their fraud department can't tell me, who can?

hi pokee, I understand your pain and did face similar issue during the 1st time I have this card. But for me, it is always because I didn't contact them just the day of (not the day before, or week(s) before) I start my trip outside of Canada. And they usually kill my card on Monday around 11am and not on Friday evening when I usually start my trip where I could start charging stuff outside of Canada. But I never have this issue trigger by a transaction within Canada, even when I am travelling Coast-to-Coast and use it for dinner at place that don't take my Corp AMEX.

Yeah, I've had holds put on for travel, but this is typical for most CC companies. Holds I can deal with, as they're cleared up with prep ahead of time, or a phone call after the fact. This issue puts my card out of commission for 2 weeks, and causes admin hassle for me to change my number on pre-approved websites. Just a horrible inconvenience, when credit cards are supposed to be convenient!

I use this card all the time for my US online purchases - which is why it probably keeps getting flagged for fraud (since I'm using it for smaller, unknown, foreign merchants). But that's the whole point of this card!

I feel like this card is on it's way out for me...I may try to call the cancellation department and threaten to cancel it and get them to refund me the annual fee I just paid. And if they won't, I already used my cat 5 cert - so I'd gladly say buh-bye!

May I ask what is the Dec 11 deadline for? I've applied today for this card since I was short 7 nights for my gold status

All Chase Marriott statements cut on the 11th in Canada, and points post to Marriott accounts by the 18th.

The elite qualifying nights should post soon after approval though

In the past it took 20 days to get the card and it takes 1-2 days to process the purchase. You may be tight to see anything next month. But maybe the mail will be faster for you at this time.

Data point:

Applied about 2.5 weeks ago and got the card after about 10 days (much sooner than before). However, the 15 nights still has not posted yet which is longer than usual.

The 15 nights should appear about 5 days after approval.

Does the Marriott number listed at the bottom left of your card match your (presumably) existing Marriott number?

Yes the Marriott number on the CC matches my existing Marriott number. I'm hoping this is just a blip.

Charges have been put on the card so I hope the points will be given once the statement closes.

Edited to add: I called one agent and he said the 50k points as well as 15 nights should be credited to the account within 4-6 weeks after first purchase. I also asked when the statement closes and he said December 7.
