** On or before May 30th, 2018** - ALL Chase Marriott cardholders that held the card as of March 15th, 2018, will receive:
** CHASE HAS CLOSED ACCOUNTS AS OF MARCH 15, 2018 **
By now you should have been notified that your Marriott Rewards® Visa® Credit Card will be closing on March 15, 2018. Here's what you need to know:
• CONTINUE EARNING.
You will still be able to continue to use your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card and earn points on eligible purchases through March 14, 2018. After that date, you will no longer be able to make purchases or earn points on your Marriott Rewards Visa Credit Card.
• USE YOUR POINTS.
This does not impact your Marriott Rewards account. You will still be able to access and use any points and benefits that you have earned.
If you have paid an annual fee for your card any time between April 2017 and December 2017, Chase Canada has said that they will give you a prorated rebate of the fee back as a statement credit on your account.
If, however, your annual renewal fee is due between January 2018 and March 2018, you will NOT have to pay it. You may continue to use your card until March 15, 2018
As a cardholder, you will still receive your 15 Elite Night Credits and Free Night Certificate, regardless of your anniversary date. They will be deposited into your Marriott Rewards account after March 14, 2018.
Existing Chase Marriott Visa cardholders will be given a special signup to the Amex SPG CC for 25,000 welcome points and $120/yr annual fee.

Information below is left here for reference only, so that others who applied before the deadline can refer to the info.
If you find a working application link buried in this thread and apply through it don't be surprised if you do not get the advertised welcome bonuses.

Tips:
- Go to marriott.com and apply for a Marriott Rewards account first, and have the member/account number ready during application. If you did NOT do this then Chase will create an account for you - look for the numbers on the lower left of your new Visa card, it may be displayed there.
- Spend at least $1 on your new card by the 9th of the month, so that the txn posts by the 11th onto your online account at Chase (https://online.chasecanada.ca).
- Seemingly, all Canadian Chase Marriott Visa accounts cycle on the 11th of the month. Points are posted by Chase to Marriott.com and the 50K points will appear by the 18th or 19th of the month.
- You will see the points posted on page 3 of your paper statement when it arrives in the postal mail. Chase does not provide Canadians with an online PDF statement, only transactions. If by the 19th you don't see points posted, double-check the Marriott Rewards number on your paper statement to ensure it matches your true account number, in case Chase messed up and created a new MR account on your behalf.
- When setting up payment for the card at online banking, look for "MARRIOTT VISA" as the card name.
- If using this card outside of Canada, ensure you prime the PIN onto the card at a CHIP/PIN terminal while IN Canada, before you leave for your trip. You cannot prime the card while in Europe (for eg.)
- YMMV, but if you decide to cancel this card, it is advisable to do it WELL before the anniversary date, as Chase may not pro-rate a refund.
- If you plan to use this card outside of Canada (no FX fees), you should call Chase to let them know, so your card won't get locked. I've never called when using it on extended travel in the US, but for sure I would call and let them know if I was going to use it elsewhere (Europe, Asia, Antarctica).
- If you log out of MARRIOTT.COM and notice an 80,000 point offer, it is a USA-only offer.
- You can find List of Marriott Hotels and their Categories via below searches

Hi,
me and my SO opened this card back at the end of September, just before the introductory cat 4 certificate offer was removed from the card application.
Our cat 4 certificates expire on Oct. 2 2017.
While it is still a year away, we need to travel somewhere next year in mid-October to attend a family event, and it would be perfect to use our cat 4 certificates during that time.
The only problem is that we are going to be there mid-October and our certificates expire at the beginning of October.
In this case, would it be realistically possible to ask if our certificates could be extended by a couple of weeks?
If yes, who shall I contact?
Chase, or Marriott Rewards, or the hotel directly?
Thank you-!

I have my credit card free night cert extend for another year eariler this year. It is 1 year from the day you call. So, if you know for sure you will use these certs next Oct and will not change your mind, then you can call Marriott customer service now. This is just in case they will not allow extending as the SPG merger going on.

I am ready to apply for the card now. Is 50000 points bonus link still exist and is it valid?

The link in Wiki up top still seems valid, it does take you to a page that state 50K sign-up bonus. But I was curous that if you login to your Marriott account, what offer do you see, the 50K link or the 30K Link.

You are right, finally found the link for the application in my account and its 50k the same as up top. Just curious of the latest date that someone applied and got approved with the bonus using the link.

alc, based on our experience with different Marriott Rewards accounts (big family!) you'll see the 50K offer if you are Silver status (or higher). Else only the 30K offer.

Their rate is really really good.
I used it in HK for a big purchase and I had the option to bill in HK dollars or Canadian dollars. The Canadian dollar number was $200 higher than what xe.com was showing me, so I picked HK dollars.
It actually billed me about $5 less than the xe.com rate I was looking at when I made the purchase. No 2.5% etc. The xe.com rate is usually what the banks get, so I can say I was really impressed.
When I use my AMEX plat for foreign purchases I can usually expect a horrible rate plus the 2.5%.
It really sucks that Canada has so few cards that don't charge the foreign exchange 2.5% fee...

I know a lot of people churn these, but if you spend a lot in foreign currency, it is worth the $120 a year cost.

using Marriott Visa at Starwood properties
This is excellent news.
Chase Marriott Visa has extended the 5 points per Canadian dollar spend at Marriot properties to Starwood properties as well.
I'd paste the email here but I can't figure it out.

Announcing an exclusive new cardmember benefit: you can now earn Marriott Rewards® points across the new Marriott portfolio of 5,700 properties in 110 countries.
Beginning on 12/1, use your Marriott Rewards® Premier Visa Card at any participating hotel in the SPG program and you'll now earn 5 points per $1 – just like you do at participating Marriott Rewards and Ritz-Carlton Rewards® hotels.
Earning Rewards: You will earn 5 points per CAD$1 in qualifying purchases made at participating Marriott and The Ritz-Carlton hotels, and at all Starwood-branded hotels which participate in Starwood Preferred Guest ("SPG®"), including participating: Four Points Hotels, Sheraton Hotels, Aloft Hotels, W Hotels, Le Meriden Hotels, Element Hotels, Westin Hotels, St. Regis Hotels, Tribute Portfolio, Design Hotels and The Luxury Collection. "Participating Marriott and The Ritz-Carlton hotels" means all Marriott and The Ritz-Carlton branded hotels which participate in Marriott Rewards or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards. Go to marriottrewards.com, ritzcarltonrewards.com or spg.com, as applicable, for a list of participating hotels. You may see "5X" in marketing materials to refer to the 5 points you earn for each dollar spent at participating Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, and Starwood hotels. You will only receive the accelerated earn of 5 points for each dollar spent from the credit card program. You will not receive additional points under the Marriott Rewards or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards program for stays at participating SPG hotels.
You will earn 2 points per CAD$1 spent on airline tickets purchased directly with the airline and at car rental agencies & restaurants. Merchants who accept Visa credit cards are assigned a merchant code based on the kinds of products and services they sell. Chase groups similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of making rewards offers to you. Chase makes every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in its listed categories. However, even though a merchant or the items that it sells may appear to fit within a listed category, the merchant may not have a merchant code that falls within that category. Therefore, purchases with that merchant will not qualify for the stated rewards offer on category purchases. Purchases submitted by you or the merchant through third-party payment accounts (e.g. PayPal), mobile or wireless card readers, online or mobile digital wallets, or similar technology (collectively, "Technology") will not qualify in a rewards category if the Technology is not set up to process the purchase in the rewards category. You will earn 1 point per CAD$1 spent on other net purchases where the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Card is accepted. Marriott Rewards points are not earned on balance transfers, cash advances, unauthorized charges, interest or fees. Marriott Rewards points will be awarded only to accounts that are open and not more than 2 billing cycles past due on the statement closing date. All Marriott Rewards terms and conditions apply. Refer to MarriottRewards.com for complete terms and conditions.

The Canadian version now earns 2 Starpoints per $1 CDN for spend at both Starwood and Marriott properties. That's SIX Marriott Rewards points per Canadian peso.
Effective today.
So my new strategy is the SPG Amex for all domestic Marriott and Starwood stays. And the Chase Marriott Visa for all international stays at either.
