This is typical, Marriott megabonuses tend to have gaps, normally longer than just two weeks though.

It's a two week gap, hardly that long. Hotels don't need promo's 365 days a year.

Usually there is mile based bonus going on during the gaps.
I usually check once I hit mega bonus or during gaps to see if any miles deals.

There is a megamiles bonus that starts Jan. 1, 2012 - April 30, 2012.

Its likely a targeted bonus; but change your preference to miles and see if you can sign up for this one if you are interested in miles: ^

Marriott Rewards® MegaMiles has soared to new heights, giving you the opportunity to earn 2,000 bonus miles with every stay, beginning with your second stay, up to a total of 50,000 bonus miles during the promotion. You'll also earn your usual base miles with any one of the participating airlines with every stay.

See Details
Here's how:
•Register* or join Marriott Rewards and be automatically registered
•Stay between January 1 and April 30, 2012 at any of over 3,500 participating hotels in 70 countries, across 13 distinctive brands
•Earn 2,000 bonus miles with every stay, beginning with your 2nd stay, up to a total of 50,000 bonus miles during the promotion period. For kilometers conversion, view terms and conditions .
Choose from 13 distinctive brands

Just look at the Megabonus offering.

Same old, same old, every single quarter.

Hardly rocket scientists working on this--why are you surprised there is a gap?

I noticed in the T&C's that it says Nights spent while redeeming an award are not eligible for credit. I've got an 8 night stay coming up that I plan to pay for with $1000 of Marriott GCs - those should still count for MB credit correct?

Yes, I have used gift cheques before during promotion and the nights count for megabonus.

My guess: it's for you to use your unused e-certs or stay on points

I think it was 12 nights in 3 months for Gold. I've heard about 18 nights for Platinum. I won't swear to either number and don't have the means of looking it up right now.
Thanks

Agree 100%.

Level 4 properties as a reward for loyalty? Level 4? REALLY?

When Hilton offers fee nights with every 10 nights, you can stay almost anywhere, including W-A.....

Well, I guess the question is whether you would rather have one free night at a Cat 5/6 for 10 nights or one free night at a Cat 4 for 2 nights. I understand both perspectives.
