"Earn 25,000 points after 15 paid nights + an additional 15,000 points after 20 paid nights (up to 40,000) when you use your Visa® card"

...wonder if there's a higher bonus this time around.

Earn 5,000 points for each 2nd paid stay—up to 20,000 points—when you use your Visa card

I´m a Plat.

How ironic. I got offered this as a plat:

Earn 35,000 points after 20 paid nights + an additional 15,000 points after 25 paid nights (up to 50,000) when you use your Visa® card

Not sure I will make 20 nights, 'cuz we have to book some nights for my wife to keep her gold. I think I would have done better with the offer you got.

I got the standard Cat 1-4 free night after every other stay, max two free nights.

I have to call them about another situation on Monday, and I´ll ask for a promotion change. I have three medium stay future reservations, (total 27 nights) so the promotion they gave me is pretty much useless. I´d end up with a measly 5,000 points.

I got the free night w/ 2nd stay... was sort of options would they give you if you were interested in switching? Is it member/status specific?

I got that one too.

Oddly, when I go to the My Promotions page it states that I'm already registered. However, this was the first time I viewed the page for the new promo and I never even saw a link to register (so obviously I never actually registered ).

dan1431 Aug 13, 2011 6:31 am

Marriott has been auto-registering me for sometime now, I thought I had read (maybe even here on FT) that Marriott was going to auto-register all Elites for promos, but I could be wrong.

I got stay 2 get 1 as well.

Yeah, I was already registered, too. Maybe dan1431 is correct and we are being autoregistered.

It looks like there are three other offers out there;

Earn 35,000 points after 20 paid nights + an additional 15,000 points after 25 paid nights (up to 50,000)

and

Earn 25,000 points after 15 paid nights + an additional 15,000 points after 20 paid nights (up to 40,000)

and

Earn 5,000 points for each 2nd paid stay—up to 20,000 points

Haven't seen anyone report any others.

I'm not sure how it works for Golds, but as a Plat I got them to change my offer on the last MegaBonus from a free night for two stays offer to a points reward like one of the above. All I can recommend is to call MR and ask if you can get one of the other offers. If they will allow Golds to change, you should get your choice of the four.

littlevoices Aug 13, 2011 11:04 am

Thanks for the heads up, got "Earn 35,000 points after 20 paid nights + an additional 15,000 points after 25 paid nights (up to 50,000) when you use your Visa® card" as per the past few years, didn't get auto-registered this time though. Always handy to get the extra points. I'm a Plat Premier and completed the last 35+15 promotion a few weeks ago.

For the past three years, I have been able to pay for the hotel with my Amex and the incidentals with my Visa. The first year, the night credit showed up automatically. The last two, I have had to call the Platinum desk to have them added. It worked every time.

DillMan Aug 13, 2011 3:58 pm

Anyone else not receiving offers for MegaBonus promotions? For the summer megabonus, I waited until the end of July and, with nothing showing under "Promo Central" (both the drop down from the main page and the actual Promotions Page), I wrote in to ask why I wasn't offered anything. I got a response on July 29 that said, essentially, "you were already automatically registered for the 20,000+10,000 promotion on June 1. Thanks". I pulled up my promotions page and, oddly, I was now registered for the 25,000+15,000 promotion, not the 20,000+10,000 promotion. I then looked at my account activity and, sure enough 40,000 points posted as of that same day - July 29. The problem is I achieved the 25 night goal on June 26, a month and 3 days earlier but Marriott specifically said I was already registered prior to sending my original email to CS.

I wrote back again and asked for clarification - was I automatically registered on June 1 or did I only become registered when I wrote in to ask why I wasn't offered a MegaBonus. The same CS Rep wrote me back, in broken English, and told me that I had registered myself on July 29....prior to his response. Completely untrue!

Kind of a tangent to my original question above, but why lie to a customer and why ignore the original question - "Why wasn't I selected for a MegaBonus?" This takes something trivial, such a computer goof when processing MegaBonus selection, and leaves me with a really nasty taste in my mouth. I'm PP and am trending toward 400+ nights this year. Would it really be so hard to give me a respectful reply?

Anyway, I'm sitting here reading that others have their Fall MegaBonus offers. Most of my employees have received their offers. Are there any other Elites out there that have missed out on Fall, Summer, or both?

I just recently changed my address to European and look at what I have gotten:

Registration is required. Marriott Rewards® members who register for this promotion by October 31, 2011, will earn one (1) free night award at a category 1-5 hotel after each second paid stay made between September 15, 2011, and January 15, 2012, at a participating Marriott property. Maximum two (2) free night awards earned with this promotion per member. Payment must be made using your Visa® card. An earned free night award can be redeemed for a future stay at participating Marriott Rewards category 1-4 properties for one (1) free night between September 15, 2011, and May 31, 2012. An earned free night award is good for one (1) single or double occupancy standard room only and includes the cost of the hotel room and applicable room taxes only. An earned free night award will be added to the member's account within 3-5 business days after the second qualifying stay. Awards are not transferable and may not be given as a gift. This offer is not transferable. Nights spent while redeeming an award are not eligible for credit. A stay is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity. Only one room per hotel is counted toward a member's nights or stay. Members electing to earn miles are not eligible for this promotion. Participating brands include JW Marriott®, EDITIONSM, Autograph Collection®, Renaissance® Hotels, Marriott® Hotels & Resorts, Courtyard by Marriott®, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott®, SpringHill Suites by Marriott®, Residence Inn by Marriott®, TownePlace Suites by Marriott® and Marriott Vacation Club®. Stays at our exclusive luxury hotel partner, The Ritz-Carlton®, will count toward achievement. All Marriott Rewards program terms and conditions apply. Visit MarriottRewards.com/MegaBonus , call 1-888-MARRIOTT (627-7468), or call your local Marriott Rewards Customer Support office for complete details.

My bro got the same offer, naturally he changed his address to European as well. 4 Cat5s are definitely worth it. We are doing this promo for sure...

btw promo code VF12 if you can register manually

jgottlieb Aug 13, 2011 9:55 pm

I got 35k + 15k...but I wasn't autoregistered....

Boraxo Aug 13, 2011 11:27 pm

The 25k and 35k offers sound like mediocre bonuses compared with recent offering from SPG (stay3stayFree) and Hyatt's former FFNs. I wonder if this really drives incremental revenue?

The Cat 1-5 offer is much better but still somewhat disappointing compared to the recent SPG offer which provided free rooms at resorts (including Cat 6 and 7). Cat 5 is basically useless to me with Marriott as most of the rewards I want are at least Cat 6, and for city properties, Cat 7-8.

Cantheplanegofaster? Aug 14, 2011 2:40 am

I got the MegaBonus using the Visa card only and my company requires we book on the company mastercard. Have already stayed 111 nights in bed this year and have 40 more nights already booked.

Looks like I will call them today (still horribly jet lagged) and see if I can get a better offer.

I keep getting major point offers from SPG and you'd think MR would want to at least throw something out their to match.

cln Aug 14, 2011 4:19 am

Can you have your promo changed ? I have 5000 points after every 2nd stay but i would rather have the free night after 2 stays... how can i change that ?

This is *any* Visa and not just the MR Visa correct?

Correct. I use my government Visa for work travel and Visa specific Megabonus works fine with it.

My wife has no ax to grind with Marriott. She has had dozens of stays with them and Hilton over the past year, along with a few with Hyatt and IC and has had no problem she felt worth complaining about. The only problem she has had is with the disreputable Starwood property. There are a few Marriott hotels that she likes so much that she will stay in them bonus or not.

BUT, presumably the purpose of a bonus is to get the on-the-fence frequent traveler to choose one hotel over another comparable hotel. As things are now, she is going to be more likely to stay with Hilton for their tepid double-points offer, or elsewhere. In my opinion the Priority Club offer of 2,000 bonus points per night if you use four different brands is pretty good, especially if combined with other bonus opportunities and the chance to buy-up an extra 2,000 or 3,000 points for five or ten dollars. So you're reasonably looking at the possibility of as many as 8,000 (or more) priority club points per night. My wife isn't a big fan of Priority Club hotels, but it's a decent offer.

So the bottom line is that I think Marriott is going to lose some incremental business, including that of my wife. I think they should consider the fact that many of their business travelers only use AMEX. But my wife will only be chasing a bonus when she doesn't stay with Marriott; she has no hard feelings towards the company. They have done her no wrong. That's not the case in regards to the disreputable Starwood hotel I posted about.

So if a city had only Starwood properties, she might prefer a tent.

Best Cat 1-4 hotels to redeem the 2 Fall MegaBonus free nights on Asia trip?

I am registered for Fall Marriott Megabonus promo (up to 2 free nights option) and have an upcoming Jan/Feb trip to Asia I just booked using BA miles.
JAL outbound JAL JFK-NRT (stop)-SGN) and CX inbound BKK-HKG (stop)-YVR (stop).

Looking at booking the hotels for the trip now and wondering if the experts on the board can reco any Cat 1-4 hotels that would be great redemptions for me on this trip.

Yout best bet for HKG is Marriott SkyCity Hong Kong and Courtyard Hong Kong. The Ren is CAT 5 and JW is CAT 6 you are out of luck at both.

And for Japan the super limiting amount of Marriott (and any other international brands) is not particular helping. And I think Tokyo CY Ginza is a Cat 5 if not Cat 6.

Yes I think Ren is a CAT 4 also not sure if JW BKK as well.

I will though recommend to use the certificate at HK of possible as hotel in Thailand are generally much cheaper than HK (we are talking about approx 200 USD for Courtyard HK and sometimes 300-400 when it comes to exhibition season)

Spouse received the above offer while I got the Stay 2 get 1 Free offer. ^

I should add that it runs 9/15/11 - 1/15/12. That is currently 15 days longer than the IHG promotion that ends on 12/31/11.

Can use the Cat 4 certs thru 5/31/12.

libuser Aug 15, 2011 7:29 am

dude
just go to the list of CAT4s, and select a hotel that costs more than what you paid for your certs. Otherwise there would be little sense to burn a cert for an otherwise cheaper property.

Example: Last year I burned 10 Cat4s in Renessance Sao Paulo, which averages $500 per night, and the absolute lowest rate that you could get is the airline rates which were $200 + tax around $250 a/i. That is a solid return on investment.

greek2me Aug 15, 2011 7:52 am

Mr. Vker- Thanks. Ren Bangkok looks great. I booked some paid nights there for now. Will check out other places we'll be staying along the way to decide if that's best redemption.

libuser- dude! Kinda had that figured out already, but appreciate the post. :)
I am looking for recos by people who know the Cat 1-4s. I've been to many hotels of cat X and price Y where redemption values were awesome on paper but I wouldn't have had my mother-in-law stay there!
