My wife isn't a member of Flyertalk, so I guess she can't complain on this forum. I really didn't think I was being shrill about it, just pointing out that Marriott was likely to lose some business to the other chains.

In answer to your question, I don't book my wife anywhere without her permission. She generally calls me, tells me where she needs a room and I call her back with her options and available promos. She then chooses. Sometimes she chooses based on the promo, sometimes based on the quality of the hotel. It varies.

BUT, I can assure you that with good promos offered by Hilton and Priority Club and not by Marriott (for AMEX users), she will do less business with the latter. There are other people who will be making similar choices, I'm sure, but I guess Marriott has factored this into their thinking.

My husband stays where I tell him to stay, flys with who I tell him to fly with and very much enjoys the vacations I then book for us. :-)

I am Gold and have 35 nites so far this year. Received the Summer MegaBonus Promo but so far no Fall Promo. I guess I will wait until 8/31 when the Summer Promo ends and if nothing call MR.

I found it odd that the poster was suggesting that I was somehow abusing my wife by encouraging her to stay at a Crowne Plaza or Holiday Inn, vetted carefully of course with Trip Advisor!

Mr Nacho is a Gold, and he got the 25K after 15 nights promo. Mrs Nacho is not an elite and she got 5k pts after 2 stays.

For the Megabonus summer 2011 we both got 1 night after 2 paid stays.

I think we will try to change it to the 1 free night after 2 stays.

I don't see any new promotion under my account. I guess it's because I am earning miles from the current Quadruple Miles promotion.

Please report if it is possible to change 5k pts every 2nd stay to free nights

You need to change your earning preference to points to see the Fall MegaBonus offer at this time. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't seeing any offer and then checked to see I had my MR account set to earn miles.

Changed earning to points and the Fall MegaBonus offer appeared immediately.

You cant go wrong with that one.... But check if they have a promotion running.. not worth to use the awards if they run a promo for ~3000thb...

There is also a new cat 4 Marriott opening this year in Thailand at the east coast. Marriott Rayong... not really much information around yet.

Same here - went ahead and registered. Company card is not a VISA, so will have to see if I can get the personal VISA to work.

I heard that this may not open until sometime in 2012 - believe that it is going to be owned by the same group that owns the JW in Bangkok. Not exactly sure where it will be located in Rayong, but would not be my first choice for location.

Here's an interesting glitch. I got no offer, and my preference is points. Following links earned me the reject...not eligible. On a lark, I went into my profile, and just re-saved my preference to points. Bam! There is the Fall MaegaBonus (50k). Perhaps that will help someone else...

I received the 25,000 points after 15 paid night's promo but after speaking with "John" at the Salt Lake City call center last night he was able to switch me to the 1 free night after every 2 paid stay offer. John said that the original promo would still show in my profile, but that he would be monitoring my account and adding the free night credits (up to 2) after my second and fourth night paid stay. ^

I got stay 2 get 1 free using your Visa card...category 1-4. :(

These promos are not mutually exclusive. I am registered for both. I would recommend calling and asking for the Megabonus promotion without offering to give up the 5,000 point promotion.

Yes, I successfully changed my reward but called back when I didn't see the change reflected on my account. They told me that they handle it manually when the promotion is changed from what was originally offered. I suggested that they just give Plats the different options online and let each member choose. This would save the the operators a lot of work. The guy on the Plat line agreed with me.

I know. But I am afraid if I switch to earn points, it will terminate my current Quadruple Miles promotion. So I will wait till 8/31 when the promotion ends.

I changed options on the last MegaBonus and that is how it worked. The original offer showed in my account through out the offer period, but, in the end, the option I had requested is what got posted.

I agree about being able to choose online. You would think it would be much more cost effective for Marriott than paying someone to keep tabs on it for you.

Just paid over $200 USD per night at the ren bkk. It was 5500 baht ++, ended up costing about $220.

Also great if a hotel opens up in Rayong. I believe Rayong is between Pattaya and Bangkok, but closer to Pattaya.

I can vouch for the Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong as well, awesome staff, great food, decent pool and still has that "almost new" smell ;-)

There is also a Courtyard around the corner, much quieter area - but I wouldn't recommend it, too many kids and tour groups there, crowded restaurant, etc. the last two times I stayed there - (And why I don't go back).

I will max out my 4 stays/2 free nights, so at least its useful if not particularly inspiring. I just roll my extra stays over to *wood.

I called MR customer service today asking if they had any other MegaBonuses besides the Visa offer and was told no.

So, as a Plat Premier unless they come out with something after 9/1 that my chances of extra points from my long stays is nil.

Hrm... still no sign of the fall megabonus in my account yet.

Just to clarify this deal:

Earn 35,000 points after 20 paid nights + an additional 15,000 points after 25 paid nights (up to 50,000) when you use your Visa® card

If you stay 25 paid nights between 9/15/11 and 1/15/12, do you get 50k points? When I first read the offer, I thought you had to stay 45 nights (20 + 25) to get the 50k points.

Same here. Except I think I'll wait till several days after 8/31, specifically, until my Marriott account shows my last August stay having posted to Southwest, before I change it. (But that's because I'm new to Marriott and don't yet know when is the safe time to change earnings preference. In some other programs, what matters is the earning preference at booking time, in others the earning preference at check-in or check-out, and in still others the earning preference at stay posting time. It's a bit dizzying to keep them all straight! :) )

Rayong is approximately 30kms further from BKK then Pattaya is (if you take the bypass road approx. 20kms outside of Pattaya or 50+kms if you actually go into Pattaya before heading for Rayong)

Tee Hee...I mostly lurk, but yup...same here...I tell hubby which hotels to stay at (based on promos...either Starwood or Marriott), and he always flies United...

And I, too, book all the vacations...mom & dad alone time & family (4 kids) vacations...pretty proud of the fact that we are spending 2 weeks in Thailand over Christmas/New Years, 5 of us flying on awards, paying for his flight, staying everywhere on Starwood points.

Which brings me to the fact that lately hubby has NOT been staying at Marriott...for the 3rd "Mega" bonus in a row, we (er...he) keep getting the stay 2 get one free...at a Cat 1-4. Really? Sorry can't use them (as they are nowhere where we want to go, and don't include any resorts!), so he's been staying at Starwoods...at least there we get stay 3 get 1 Cat 1-6 free This time it is resort nights...Mom & Dad have a trip planned this fall...;)

Change promotion type for Fall Megabonus 2011
 

I have written to MR to have my Megabonus promo changed from 5K points every 2 stays to a free night every 2 paid stays.

I haven't registered yet because I'm worried that I won't be able to change after I have registered.

Here's the reply from MR:

'Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding the 2011 Fall Visa MegaBonus Promotion.

Our records indicate you are enrolled in the 2011 Fall Visa MegaBonus Promotion. Earning dates begin September 15, 2011, and end January 15, 2012. You have been selected to receive an electronic free night certificate, valid at hotel categories one through four, after every two Visa paid stays. You can receive a maximum of two free night certificates. You may track your progress through our website at MarriottRewards.com.

Many of our promotions have a "stay" requirement. This is defined in our program information, as well as the terms and conditions of each promotion. A "hotel stay" or "stay" means all consecutive nights a Marriott Rewards member registers and personally pays and stays at any participating hotel. For example, three consecutive nights stayed in one hotel qualifies as one paid stay.

Elite nights earned through other promotions that appear as non-stay nights in your account and timeshare owner stays during a designated owner week do not qualify for this promotion.

I was confused because this is NOT the promo I got when I logged onto Marriott.com - even now it still shows the 5K points promo.

Then i wrote again to clarify, here is the reply:

'Thank you for this reply.

Sorry for the confusion. Our system automatically enrolls member's in various versions of this promotion. Because you requested the specific enrollment in the free night certificate promotion, we will make an exception on your account. Our offices have made a note on your account to track your stay progress towards this promotion. Once you have completed the paid stays within the guidelines of the promotion then I will manually add in the free night certificates. Although your online account will continue to show that you are enrolled in another version of this promotion, the stays will count towards the free nights instead of the bonus points.'

OK I got what I want and I'm happy about my promo now.

However I think it's weird that:

1. I could register for the promo, and I have never done that. MR claims that I'm automatically registered;

2. I have asked to change my promo, and apparently I was 'selected' to have the free night promo rather than the 5K points promo showed on my account page on Marriott.com;

3. Why do they have to make an 'exception' to change my promo? When you go to marriottrewards.com/megabonus, the free night after 2 paid stays is shown. I would have thought that would have been the default of the promo, so there is no point in granting me an exception to the standard promo.

4. They first said it's impossible to change the promo, but then they gave me an exception :confused:

Definitely register so you don't miss any promo. Marriott CSR's are very good about noting an account for a different level promo in my experience. Call and ask for the different promo to be applied. They will usually say "We will note the account and manually add it after the promotion period."

I didn't register, but now they registered me. So I won't miss the promo.

I do prefer writing as you can get a proof of what it is they have promised.

Thanks Andy but I have a question that other Platinum Members have posted as well. My company uses a Master Card, so there's no way I will qualify for the bonus. I'll have about 5-7 nights on personal trips I can put on my visa.

Is there a lesser plan, such as the stay 2 nights/get 1 free that non-plats are receiving? I called MR but was told nothing else was available. Thanks.

Marriott Concierge told me I can switch back and forth between stays as often as I desire.

Is there anyway your co. will let you pay for the room with the co. card, then buy some incidentals and close out with your personal card? If so, that might work.
