I searched but can't find the answer. Does the stay 2 get 1 promotion include any type of rate? Senior, AAA or wedding group rate? My dad is eligible for all 3 of those rates.

At Hilton, it was the day you check out. Not sure about Marriott. the day you makes the reservation, the day you checks in, the day you checks out or a random day in between?

It's based on how your earning preference is set at the time when the miles or points post to your Marriott Rewards account. So as soon as you notice that your miles have posted, switch your earning preference to points before the next stay posts to your Marriott Rewards account. If you can't wait until the miles post from the first stay, they you're going to have to call a customer service rep and see if they can change it for you. Switching points to miles should not be a problems, but getting them to switch miles to points will depend on whether you call before the miles are transferred to the airline. Once the miles go to the airline they can't change them to points.

Had a stay posted yesterday where I used a bonus bucks certificate and paid the balance using my visa card. The points and nights posted but as of now the nights are not showing on the slider bar indicating my progress in
the fall megabonus. I will wait a few more days to see if the nights show up
for the megabonus and if they don't I will call MR and see what the story is and will report back here.

Maybe this is an "enhanced benefit" of the new website??? Or maybe it
is being "enhanced" like the BOGO's.

AAA: for sure
Senior: never used them, but I'm pretty sure
Wedding group rate: I would think so, but maybe someone else can verify

The night and the points don't always post the same time. You probably see the night by now.

In case anyone is wondering, VISA Debit cards work fine for the promotion as I've just had four nights credit against the megabonus after using mine.

BKKLEE Sep 23, 2011 5:15 am

senior (AARP) and AAA absolutely

Can anyone confirm that partial payment to the visa card is working with the current megabonus promotion? I'm guessing that it will, but it's always nice to have confirmation.

I had a 6 night stay in shanghai with Marriott Gold Card super discounted rate (50% off rack IMO) at CY shanghai Puxi

Paid 5 night + pre dim with AMEX the night before checkout, paid 1 night + pre dim at checkout, 3 days after megabonus 6 nights without a glitch.

yes. not sure if it depends on the hotel or not, I think it's the way the system reads it. But, 'closed out' with the VISA is the main issue.

jtp1947 Sep 26, 2011 9:37 am

Has anyone tried using one of the older Gift Cards that used to post as Visa? I would imagine that it would still post as Visa and should work for the Megabonus.

I can tell you VISA Credit Card wont work. I tried to book and check in with VISA, and at check out, chance to MC, but no nights posted to mega bonus unfortunately. :td::td:

As you said you close your folio with master card and hence the big no. Your last payment to the hotel (aka at checkout) has to be Visa

question from a marriott noob/drone:

i've registered under both the miles and stay 2 get 1 promo. if you set miles to your earning pref, does that not qualify as a stay credit, as well?

If you credit to miles to work the more miles promo, it won't count as stay credit for the stay 2 get 1 promo (though it will count towards elite qualification).

From the T&C: "Members electing to earn miles are not eligible for this promotion."

crazyhorse Sep 26, 2011 6:26 pm

OK I can confirm that the good ol' option still works.

I checked out last week with the bulk of my folio on a discounted GC and ~$10 on my Visa. I can see the stay was counted under the Megabonus.

Wedding group rate: I would think so, but maybe someone else can verify

I recently stayed on a wedding group rate and the stay was credited and counted toward the Stay 2 Get 1 promotion.

By the way, my rate was changed from a AAA rate to the wedding rate without my knowledge. I just got an email randomly one day with a new confirmation that included the wedding party names. I didn't complain because it was $5 cheaper. But I didn't originally book the wedding rate because I wasn't sure it would qualify for the promotion and was willing to pay $5 more to ensure the credit. But it all worked out in the end.

Would a stay ending on the 9/15 (checking out on 15th) qualify as a stay towards the free night promotion?

Based on my experience, no:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marri...us-credit.html

The night credit starts on the night of the 15th, not the morning of the 15th. Seems reasonable to me.

living near shamu Oct 12, 2011 12:56 pm

I called and requested a change in the MB Fall promotion to the stay 2 times, get one night free. I had to cancel some planned vacation that would have put me over the required 15-20 night stay because they got rid of their BOGO nights.

You can go back and forth. So you can switch to miles, do stays for hits for US (the US promo ends way before the Megabonus), then switch back to points and continue iwth the Megabonus. The Megabonus is good on stays through mid-January, and the US promo is long over by then.

I'm doing a variation of the same. I'm registered for the Megabonus, and I'm not doing US, but I am doing the More Stays More Miles promotion with UA. (Only BA, DL, Gol, LAN, Lufthansa, and UA participate in More Stays More Miles.) The More Stays More Miles promo is capped at 17 stays (by which point you max out the 30k miles bonus), and ends Dec 31. The Megabonus ends mid-Jan. So whether I cap out the 17 stays early, or simply run out of time on Dec 31, I'll have time to go back and do the Megabonus after that.

Can you really do both? I thought it had to be one or the other.
We got our 2 certs last week, now to figure out where to use them. :)
I was not aware you could participate in both promo's in the same promo period.

Yes you can. I got my 2 certs, and switched to earn miles.

I asked a question earlier in this thread re: using the older Gift Cards that used to post as Visa's as to whether they still post as Visa, post # 251. I checked out of the Custom House and used three of the older Gift Cards and they do not post as Visa anymore. The entry simply says Gift Card. I used three $100 Gift Cards first and settled the final $350 to Visa and it worked for the Megabonus.

Forgetting about the VISA promo, I just made some reservations using MC. Do I need to switch to VISA before I arrive, or just hand them my VISA at check-in? Thanks.

nacho Oct 15, 2011 12:05 pm

All you need to do to qualify is to pay with Visa.

... even for incidentals only. Just make sure the VI shows up last on your folio.

esteban7 Oct 16, 2011 4:13 pm

Didn't work for me...

Staying at the Renaissance Sao Paulo - checked out with American Express, with final charge to VISA for incidentals. Final invoice shows:

Payment - American Express - R$996.00
Payment - VISA - R$4.00

Didn't work, but after calling the customer care, they accepted this stay (for the 25 nights, 50k points promo) and have agreed to manually monitor...

Same here, but using gift card for part of bill and settling balance to Visa works.

The card you use at check in is what matters. Double check when you check out.

Not correct. It's the card that "closes out" the room that counts. I've used my corporate AmEx at check-in for the last six stays and had all but $5 charged to that card. I've used a Visa for the last $5 on each occasion to close the folio and have gotten Megabonus credit for all six stays.

Platinum Elite Arrival Gift when earning preference is miles

I don't have enough stays planned during the promotion period to qualify for the Megabonus (25,000 points with 15 stays).

So, instead, I switched my preference to miles and registered for the More stays more miles promo. This has been working well for me and I am now earning 2,000 miles per stay.

However, just an FYI to other Plat's: When your earnings preference is set to miles, you cannot receive points as your platinum arrival gift!

As always, for my past few stays, I have asked for points rather than a snack or drink.

Checking my account today, no bonus arrival gift points... Call in to Marriott and the lady explains the situation: No arrival points bonus for plats if your account is set to earn miles.

So, either set your account to points. Or, when they offer you an arrival gift, select snack / drink instead of points!

Dear Mr. Lester,

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding the 2011 Fall Visa MegaBonus Promotion.

Our records show that your account is enrolled in the 2011 Fall Visa MegaBonus Promotion. The earning dates begin September 15, 2011, and end January 15, 2012. You have been selected to receive a bonus of 35,000 Marriott Rewards points when you stay a total of 20 Visa paid nights. You can receive an additional bonus of 15,000 Marriott Rewards points, up to a maximum bonus of 50,000 points, when you stay a total of 25 Visa paid nights.

However, as you are a valued Platinum Elite member, I would be happy to manually track this bonus offer for you while paying with your American Express.

I have documented your account; however, you will not be able to view your progress online. Approximately two weeks after the end of the promotion, around January 30, 2012, I will manually credit the bonus to your account.

Thank you for choosing Marriott.

Sincerely,

Very nice of them and now I'll make my bonus! Just thought I'd share.

I got different result. I was pretty much told, this is Visa promotion and you either pay with Visa or you don't get it.

Since I've already reached Platinum for 2012 I told them I'll be looking into HH or SPG for the rest of the year and maybe see then back in 2012.

kamchatsky Oct 20, 2011 11:53 pm

Is Look No Further rate qualifies for MegaBonus? Currently I have 2 stays and both I have successfully claimed Look No Further rate. I haven't stayed at Marriott property for a long time (since 2003!).

jtp1947 Oct 21, 2011 8:44 am

Yes, LNF would qualify.

How to track megaBonus nights

Where can you track progress against the Fall promotion?
I have 2 says so far, but when I look under "my account" and "my promotions" it just says I am registered. It doesn't say how many nights I have stayed, if any.

shadow1woman Oct 22, 2011 4:39 pm

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but can you switch from points to miles and back depending on the promotion? Wouldn't that enable you to earn more points over all? On the other hand have I missed something? Thanks!

bdschobel Oct 22, 2011 4:50 pm

Yes, you can. I switch back and forth, as necessary. I'm earning United miles right now.

Bruce

ddfr Oct 22, 2011 5:33 pm

If you earn a couple of certs from the MegaBonus is there anywhere these (two or more) can be exchanged for a 1 night stay at a higher tier hotel?

I assume not--but was wondering if anyone has had success in this area.
