I called MR today and asked for a change of the promotion.. the agent said it would be no problem and within 3 minuts the call was over. I checked my account and it said 5k points after every 2nd stay.... ( max 25k)

So i called again and the agent told me it was impossible to change it now because i am registered already ^_^

She promised to change the conditions on 15th January .. i got a written confirmation of that now....

pinniped Aug 19, 2011 10:32 am

This is completely normal: I have switched my last few Megabonii via a phone agent. They note the account and then validate your success at the end of the Megabonus period. It seems to work correctly.

I like the Stay 4 / Earn 2 Megabonus. I haven't been doing enough actual EQN at Marriott to hit the 40k point goals. I always have decent (~$200-ish) uses for Cat 4 certs.

Thanks for the tips. The other thing is the bonus miles start at the 2nd stay, so even I can switch back and forth, I am not sure if they will reset my progress.

No I don't think so. I've done this, and it works very smoothly, in fact now the system can show progress for both points and miles promos at the same time.

btw I called to MR yesterday because the Marriott Rayong webstite said it is possible to book through phone....
They said the also dont have any rates loaded and they could provide me a email for group bookings/meetings/events....

It is still on schedule as far as he could see in the system, should open november this year. gonna try it in December.

For the Megabonus summer 2011 we both got 1 night after 2 paid stays.

I think we will try to change it to the 1 free night after 2 stays.

it looks like the same as the summer megabonus: 1 free night after 2 stays. but this time, it's worse. It adds "starts at your 2nd paid stay". If I understand correctly, you will get your 1st free night after your 3rd stay, and 2nd free night after your 5th stay. So it is 2.5 stay for 1 free night.

Plus they require you using visa signature card, which implies Marriott's visa credit card, which just increased annual fee, which I don't have.

BKKLEE Aug 21, 2011 3:05 am

Really think you're misinterpreting the promo............. if the same as last summers bonus its 1-night after the 2nd and 4th stay, not 3rd and 5th as you state. Further, it's ANY Visa card, not limited to Marriott Visa

I too have no promo- Marriott Gold but staying at higher rate than in past. I am hoping this is because I am on the super secret promo that does not show up in on screen because it is so good that they do not want you to show anyone:D

I am a Platinum, my wife is a Silver. Both of us received the 25 night bonus offer. As her company has cut most travel for the balance of the year, I emailed on her behalf to switch her bonus offer to the 2 free stays cat1-4 version. Request denied.

Her four stays that take place this fall will be with the companies preferred hotel chain, which is not Marriott. A variance is usually not an issue if there is a tangible benefit As there is none this time......

Plat with over 80+ nights for the year and still no promo showing up for me. All I am seeing is the completed Summer Megabonus.

Am I missing something?

Always call. It's a manual process that involves someone taking personal responsibility for the switch.

You don't happen to have your earning preference set to miles instead of points, do you? A number of Platinums have reported not seeing any promotion until they switched from miles to points.

What is so "mega" about this two free night limit?

For miles earners. Good for one night stays, and who do hotel hopping.

I wrote to them as well and got them changed to certs instead of points. I'm a regular and Mr. Nacho is Gold.

I pointed out in the e-mail that anyone who goes into marriottrewards.com/megabonus. The cert option is there - since it's a default and you are merely as for the that thing without any twist, why can't you have that?

We don't like calling MR because we never get anything out of calling.

Anyone knows if this trick works on property outside the US and Canada?

Yes-but must do it exactly as shown.

crazyhorse Aug 23, 2011 10:34 am

Previously I used a GC which used to process as a VI. Since they have now changed the way GCs are processed, any insight on how we can make the Megabonus work with a GC?

I am thinking of using a variation of your trick.
Check-in with VI
Total charge: $356.00
Charge on GC: $350.00
Close out balance of $6.00 on the VI

Thoughts?

Changing Megabonus Point Offer to Lower Tier

I was offered stay 25 get 40K.
I am currently at 16 nights and 5 stays.

Will Marriott bump me down to the stay 20 for 30K?
Or will they tell me to be happy with the 25K since I only hit 25.
I have bumped my Megabonus up to the top level point offer, but never down
.

I booked 4 nights with a price match which will run me 172 ai. I booked through big crumbs and will be paying with a GC through big crumbs where I got the $50 hertz card for a 250 as well.

After accounting for the CB and valuing the points at .01. I am spending about $60 for 24000 points instead of the 2 cat 1-4s.
I dont see myself using the 1-4 certs which is why I want the points.
Also the megabonus points will put me over 270K so I can redeem for a travel package.

This will be my 1st true mattress run.

hhoope01 Aug 24, 2011 3:22 am

Call the Plat line and let an agent know which Megabonus offer you want (i.e. that maximizes your bonus points.) As a Gold/Plat they will normally allow you to go up or down in your offer. If I remember correctly, they can't actually change your offered Megabonus offer, but they can and will note your requested change. And at the end of the Megabonus offer, they will manually update your account with the number of points you would have received for your requested offer.

Its been a few years since I did this myself, but I would suggest that at the end of the offer time period you give MR a call and "remind" them to update your account with the correct number of bonus points.

To provide another data point to what hhoope01 posted:

Yes, I called and bounced down my summer promo a couple weeks ago. Second time I have done this. It is a manual process, they note your account and then review it at the end of the promo, and it will not be reflected in the information you see online. I will call my Plat CSR when I reach the lower threshold (next week) so she will process the requested lower threshold posting. This is not necessary, but in my case I will be overseas the entire month of September, so it will be easier to call next week than in September in the event the points do not post.

Jon Maiman Aug 24, 2011 6:51 am

I also had my offerred adjusted to a lower tier. In my case, I emailed MR via the website contact form. I got a prompt response back within 24 hours that the change of offer had been noted in my profile and would be manually posted after the promo. Bottomline MR is very responsive and flexible as long as your request is reasonable.

msw423 Aug 24, 2011 7:03 am

Keep in mind the current MegaBonus ends on Aug 31 and the next one doesn't start until Sept 15.

stallion114 Aug 24, 2011 9:04 am

Excellent news.
I will call today.

Still deciding whether I should take the 2 cat 1-4s or do my mattress run.
I already hit Gold, and will not hit plat this year as I am no longer living in hotels, so I do not really care about the elite nights, just a simple points vs cat 1-4s.

Thanks for the assistance.

Same here

Remember the Fall Megabonus you need to pay with Visa, not sure if you can combine GC with VI

ramalama8 Aug 24, 2011 1:01 pm

I'm in the same boat - I'll need one more night to get the 25 nights.

What do you think the odds are that a SHS or CY or THS will match LV rates found online? I found the Texas Station casino at $15 for Thursday night...

TULOKCICT Aug 24, 2011 5:14 pm

I just called to change to the stay 2 nights get one free. They said they would change me, but no previous stays would count. I have 4 stays under the promotion but only 8 nights. Looks like I am switching tomorrow night's stay to a Hilton.

Note that this miles promotion is from 9/1/2011 to 1/1/2012, starts and ends 15 days before the points promotion.

NJUPINTHEAIR Aug 26, 2011 12:18 pm

SPG just launched their next promotion -- 9/6 - 12/18 -- which essentially provides double points for stays and triple points for stays that include a Thursday or Sunday night.

For the infrequent hotel guest, Marriott's stay 4 get 2 free nights beats this but Hyatt has yet to announce whether it will have any significant promotion during the next period.

I agree.

Again, if you are an infreuquent traveler, Marriott's promotion is likely the best for you.

I think I might rate Intercontinental's promotion the next best if you are an infequent traveler who does not rack up many multi-night stays.

alexkgtu Aug 28, 2011 3:26 pm

no problem here - I just called and they said they'll change it after the promotion period is over - from 40000 offer to 1 night after 2 stays.

ncgator Aug 28, 2011 7:14 pm

i was earning miles for the triple miles promo since i had earned max free nights. when i changed my preference back to points after my last stay posted i expected to see the Fall promotion for points, but nothing was there. when i changed my preference back to miles a new promo for bonus miles showed up. back to points earning and still no Fall promo. any thoughts? should i let a couple of days go by with my account set to points and see if the promo shows?

Without going back and checking the terms, I am not positive, but I think the free night is only up to a cat 4 hotel.
