That certainly sounds like an LSOP (local) MI has never had a standard other than leaving it up to the hotels to decide

I'm curious what the hotel chains' official protocol is on allowing the housekeeping staff to go home after they've finished doing their last room. I know some large hotels have a skeleton cleaning staff working 'round the clock where there is a frequent turnover of rooms, ie. where many airlines house their off-duty flight crews, etc. Someone has to be around to service the rooms where there are late check outs, early check ins, middle of the night plumbing problems, etc. I think all of this plays a role in allowing one a late check out. I personally think a 4 PM late checkout is being more than fair on management's part (and I'm not a "company" man).

From what I understand, most of the hotels are privately owned (I think the JWs are owned by Marriott). It is a business and they don't tell a hotel to waste money by keeping rooms open and staff available that they don't need). Most hotels do send housekeeping home after a certain time - keeping some for turn down, etc with managers doing some of the jobs thereafter.
They try to do the 4 pm. If they can't, they usually explain it. BUT, you often have to "go above" the lowly desk clerk to the manager on duty.

No offense, but before folks post here as to what's "guaranteed period" or asserting other "facts" such as who owns which hotels, they should be able to cite as a source something better than that's what they "have been told by Marriott people."

Prior to posting the names of the hotel operators above, I did, in fact, double check that those were correct, leaving another JW off the list because I couldn't confirm whom I was sure to be the non-Marriott owner. I thought "off the top of my head" sounded better than "I conducted an Internet search that proves you wrong." I thought it would be a gentler way of pointing out the facts, rather than to use a sledgehammer and embarrass the poster. Sorry, ohmark, if you don't agree with the polite, humane approach.

If you did you would know that you're scenario is not even close to normal.
Housekeeping staffs are either pay-per-room which means do as many rooms you can in as little time as you can and then assuming your work is deemed appropriate, you go home.
Or if the staff is hourly then after their "board" is cleared you will stay around until the end of your scheduled time and do various other duties like helping fold laundry, clean the Gatehouse, vacuum hallways, etc.
Especially on weekends when supervision is light, good luck finding a housekeeper at a FI, RI, TPS after 4pm.
My point is that for the overwhelming most part you won't get the 4pm or the 3pm or maybe even the 2pm check out because there will be no one to clean that room as the entire housekeeping staff will be gone by 4-4:30 at the latest.

Who would that be?
Most select service GM's, AGM's, Suite Care Managers, Guest Care Managers are not working weekends unless there is an overwhelming reason like a QA audit on Monday morning or they are handling a shift due to a vacation or a last minute call off.
The "lowly desk clerk" is all you'll have.

Just called down to request late check out due to an 11:30 appt that will go at least 90 minutes. Was told by the desk clerk that the latest they could give me without a $50 charge was 1 pm. The clerk told me that was for all customers even highest elites (which I am not). He advised he "did not know about other Marriotts" but that that was this hotel's policy. Small city - FS Marriott. First time I've been denied even 2 pm and I'm only silver. Sounds like a few have run into this. I guess I'm just surprised to find it at a FS hotel... Naive maybe.

I rarely have to request late check out. Usually I leave early in the morning.
I can think of only 2 MR hotels where I had to request late check out; Renaissance Atlanta airport and RI Newark airport.
Both requests were on Saturday. At ATL I've got late check out time at 1pm and at EWR hotel I was denied late check out.

Sorry - was being vague on purpose since I had just called and I'm sure my name and room number were nicely displayed on the rather rude guest clerk's screen. I'm at the Rochester Marriott in Rochester MN... Pretty high priced for a hotel around here too, FWIW, but since I love and am loyal to Marriott, I moved over here once my corporate required hotel stay ended.
