Barbara DeLollis leaks on her blog on USA Today travel that the promo will be a free night for any 2 stays during the promo period. Here is the link http://travel.usatoday.com/hotels/po...deals/134443/1

Here is a snippet comparing Hilton vs. Marriott promos

* Hilton HHonors this week brought back last year's weekend promo, "Any Weekend, Anywhere Sale" for those of you able to book travel by Jan. 31. The promo can save you up to 50% on future weekend stays for any weekend throughout 2011. It's good at all Hilton-brand chains including Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, Homewood Suites and Embassy Suites (yes, it's subject to availability, making it tough - though not impossible - to get peak weekends). HHonors members will also receive double base points for these stays. The offer's valid for weekend stays completed between Dec. 17, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2011. To take advantage, you must book on Hilton's special website, HHonors.com/weekends.
* Marriott Rewards members will soon be receiving notices about its spring "MegaBonus" promo. Under this promo, you'll earn a free night for every two stays made between Feb. 1, 2011 through April 30, 2011, with a cap of two free nights. The free nights are good through Sept 30, 2011. Registration is required; here's the link to Marriott's site but note that it won't be active until Thursday, Dec 16.
If the Marriott promo is true, this will be pretty crappy......

Agreed. Free nights in a Cat 4 or lower do not do me any good whatsoever...although we can still hold on and hope that there are different offers targeted to each MR customer - mainly points based rewards.

+1 I am sitting on 3 of these now and will have a 4th in February from my Visa card. I would prefer a megabonus points option.

I believe the MegaBonus listed in the USA Today travel blog is the main award option. Marriott has several different offers running for each MegaBonus promo, and gold and platinum members are able to switch offers upon request.

Seems like two free nights can't be considered a *MEGA* bonus. More like a MiniBonus. There must be more to it?

Someone is finally listening

Kudo's to marriott for listening (i hope) to FT members and frequest guests. These promotions to a specific card need to be a thing of the past though I know when VISA or another company underwrites it, it is hard for the hotel companies to not work with them. Still many of us do not have certain credit cards and the hotel companies need to ditch the requirement to use a specific card. I also like the marriott insiders site which maybe derived from marriott reading this site.

I always wonder why Marriott waits so late to start their promotions. This one is only going to run for a short period of time and doesn't start till February. Could it be they have enough occupancy in January? I still wish they would start it in January.

This Mega Bonus looks promising though I do notice the way it is worded makes everyone think they will get their own promotion. Me, I am hoping for the 2 stays equal 1 free night promotion like others have run.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all the FT travelers.^

While I understand the idea is to get those without a Visa to get a Visa, and those with a Visa to use the card so Visa makes money, when the offer is tied to one card, it leaves out those of us who make a travel decision on where to stay, but are required, by corporate policies, to use a specific card, out in the cold. During the previous MegaBonus, I only had one qualifying stay out of probably thirty stays total during the period.

Perhaps MI could increase the MegaBonus if a specific card is used, but provide an incentive to those of us who cannot use that card. (Example: Double bonus if at least 18 or your 20 qualifying stays are paid with Visa.)

For me, one free night for every two stays seems like a great offer, but capping it at two free nights and/or limiting it to Cat 4 or 5 or below pretty much makes it useless. I'd have my two free nights in one week, but would probably never use the certificates.

Targets for 2010 Spring Megabonus

Please mind: (As always) MegaBonus promotions have targets ("you will be able to visit your own personalized MegaBonus page to receive your unique offer")

If my memory holds me, targets for free nights were always limtited to two nights at Cat 4 properties.

Three (other) targets for Spring Megabonus 2010 (2/1 - 4/30) offer (max 2K MR bonus points/night):

  • 15 paid nights = 25K MR bonus points; 20 paid nights = 40K MR bonus points
  • 20 paid nights = 35K MR bonus points; 25 paid nights = 50K MR bonus points
  • 20 paid nights = 35K MR bonus points; 30 paid nights = 60K MR bonus points

This is not a shift in Marriott's strategy nor does it have anything to do with them listening to complaints. Historically they have the Fall Megabonus tied to Visa and the Spring Megabonus not tied to Visa.

Same dates as last year- I'm sure they have well researched reasons for offering those dates.

Second, no it's not a scam. As Marriott Concierge mentioned, the promo goes live on December 16th for registration.

The page posted at the link from Marriott Concierge now includes this message:
Be sure to visit MarriottRewards.com/MegaBonus on December 16, 2010 to view your MegaBonus offer.
Check it again on Thursday...

I don't mind Category 5 hotels, but category 4's are usually non existent in major metro areas.
Has this been confirmed, or is this just speculation?

The USA today article was updated and it looks like it's only good for up to category 4 hotels which sucks.

I also hope this is much more than 2 Cat 4 nights. I've become hooked on the 20/25/30 nights for substantial points. I hope the free nights will be offered to those with low stay patterns and regular guests get something more substantial. Then again, it would give me the chance to top off my SPG status for 2011.
