What are your plans for the trip? Are you there to leaf peep, attend a personal event, sightsee, do the Parkway, tour Biltmore, or ?????
I ask because if you are going to spend all of your time downtown, then it may be worth staying there for all 3 nights - at that time of the year it is very busy, and parking will be at a premium. If you are going to be traveling about, then total price is probably more of a deciding factor.
With regards to being GOLD - with CY, SHS, and FI it doesn't matter much, as there is no CL, upgradeable rooms, etc.
So to maximize points and bennies while controlling costs- your best bet would be to stay at the FI the first nite, then move over to the Ren. If you are GOLD by then. you would get free brekkie at the Ren, and it is a nicer hotel than the others you are considering.
Also remember that historically, there has been a megabonus during this timeframe....

Biltmore and Downtown, we love the Biltmore and want to do more than just the standard tour this time. But, we live 8 hours away and to have two full days there, we'd need to stay 3 nights. Now, does the Ren have b'fast coupons for golds on the weekend? Thanks!

I stayed at the Ren last October. As a plat I was not offered breakfast coupons on the weekend, but they kindly handed me some after I asked.
As Sophie said, the best thing about the Ren is the location in downtown Asheville. If downtown is your destination the Ren is great. Otherwise, it is your standard slightly outdated Ren.
Don't get me wrong I would stay at the Ren again, but this October I think we are going to try the Bohemian.

The dates you gave were the 30th thru the 2nd.
If you stay the 1st night at FI, then you would be in the Ren on Sun the 1st, and Mon the 2nd- for which GOLD would qualify you to receive breakfast as they are not "weekend" nights.

So then my question has to be - is it REALLY worth the hassle of unloading, unpacking, etc for one night - especially after such a long drive? There are plenty of really reasonable breakfast places in AVL.....
The answer is different for everyone of course, but I HATE to move around on such a short stay - for the time lost, too. For me, it has to be a substantial savings to make it worthwhile.

I think it is because frankly it's just don't take out much at the Fairfield, go to sleep eat breakfast check out and check in to the Renaissance, they should hold our bags then head out to the biltmore. And, the two queen beds at the Ren. make it much much better!

Hi, this is kinda a late update, but I've booked. The first night, on points, we're staying at the Holiday Inn Downtown, then switching for the next two nights to the Grand Bohemian. Does anyone know if there's anything special for Gold Elites at the Grand Bohemian? Thanks
