Just completed a 3 night stay here. It is a typical W with the "we try to be hard to be cool vibe." I did not get any upgrade, got the room I booked which was fine.
- The bed was comfy
- the room was quiet.
- bath products were not replenished
- the living room bar closes really early, though thankfully the music wasn't blaring like at some Ws
- The Zylo lunch staff were pretty untrained. We went down for lunch and they had no idea what the soup of the day was.
- the desk chair is ridiculously uncomfortable and has all style and no function
- Shower only, which is fine, but as a female a small ledge to prop a leg for shaving would be nice.

I don't think, that you could use the $30 towards room service, because the voucher is a "Zylo-Voucher", only to be used at the "Zylo"-Restaurant.
Roomservice might be operated by another restaurant or service.
If you are a single person staying at the W Hoboken, you get the full $30 for yourself for having a great sumptuous breakfast.
The $30 seems to be "per room".

Can someone let me know what type of room has the best view of Manhattan? I heard that the Spectacular rooms are on the top floors and have better view than the fantastic rooms located on the lower floors.

Top floors (above 16th, I think) are resident apartments, but even 7th floor (which we had the last time we stayed there) had great view of Manhatten. I think the only ones best avoided are 2nd/3rd floor (over the bar area, plus some trees may block your view a bit). Not sure about the difference between Spectacular and Fantastic room, though.

the way the hotel is designed all but 2 rooms have a manhattan view per floor. I would try to get a room at least 10 floors up so that the building to the left (uptown view) side doesn't block anything. I personally prefer the downtown view as you get a nice view of the financial district, the hoboken train station and ferry building and the statue of liberty (sort of).

I am thinking of staying there soon and was wondering, given the limited Platinum breakfast credit, which I understand is $30, if it pays to get a rate that includes breakfast (assuming I can do it for not much more). What does the breakfast rated include? Also, would my Platinum breakfast credit be usable for other dining charges (other than room service)?

You would be better off going to the local restaurants for better value. Also the restaurants around are all great places. Incidentally, you can take the path and be at the Spotted Pig @ Christopher Str in 10 mins!! Best burger in town!

The breakfast credit is frankly a joke whether $30 or $25 pp. We gave up at the end as the waiter couldn't even get breakfast to go working for 2 coffees, 2 pastries and 2 OJ for under $45. Yr Second answer is no!

Well coffee, OJ and pastries will exceed your quota by a few $ with tips! An omelette with OJ will cost you more. As Nevsky mentioned, you are better off hitting the high street and picking any restaurants or grocery stores for a better choice and value.

Me and my girlfriend (both beginning of 30) will visit New York in September for 5-6 days and looking for a SPG hotel to book on points or C+P.
Based on the good reviews here on flyertalk and the low category I'm thinking about going for the W Hoboken. How do you rate this hotel from a tourist perspective (we've never been to NY before)? My understanding is that there is a good connection with the Path to Manhatten...
My second choice would probably be the W Union Square, which is much more central but a higher category (20.000 points vs. 12.000 points per night).
Which of the both would you recommend?
