Beware of the in room dining.
Last time I ordered breakfast at the hotel, an omelete and a smoothie, total was $25, plus tax and the mandatory 20% service charge it came out to $32. When I checked out I noticed the breakfast charge was $42 on my folio. I asked the hotel and they pulled the copy of the ticket and the server added another $10 tips on my receipt after I signed for it. It's really bad business practice. They credited it back but It left a really bad taste in my mouth.

100% upgrade record
Maybe I'm just lucky but I've stayed here 5 times in last year and have been upgraded as a PLT every to time to a Fantastic suite. The last time required some arm twisting but I brought my wife back with me and I was not going down without a struggle

Stayed there this weekend again with some friends. Three rooms total. One under my friends name (Plat) and 2 under my name. All three rooms were upgraded to Fantastic Suites

Zylo (the onsite restaurant) is open for breakfast on the weekends. I think it is good enough to go their even when not staying there! The creamy polenta with poached eggs and stewed tomatos is a favorite of my wife.

I stayed at this property recently. It used to be my favorite W in NYC, but has slipped to AVOID status along with W New York on Lexington.
First of all, like the previous poster, during one of my previous stays, the room service staff added approximately $15 of additional tip without my permission. Upon check out, I noticed the amount was incorrect and brought the attention to the front desk staff. After digging out the check, they confirmed an additional service charge was added. I told them I did not authorize this tip. The charge was removed without an apology and that was that. Apparently the staff has been doing this on a regular basis. @:-)
Then, on a recent stay, I booked a travelzoo rate on spg.com (a fully eligible rate) and was denied benefits. I was told that I booked it on travelzoo and thus was a third party website and not eligible for benefits. After spending an excessive amount of time telling them all travelzoo promos are being directed to be booked on spg.com and it is a fully eligible rate, they told me it's not but would extend the benefits to me an an one time exception
(Don't you just love it when they make up rules and pull the one time exception stunt?). I told them to consult with SPG.
Later, another associated called to to tell me that I was correct and should have been offered full benefits. Although I appreciated the phone call, the whole thing ruined my check in experience.
I wrote to customer care to let them know that travelzoo rates booked on spg.com would be an eligible rate and to communicate with their staff so this could be avoided with future guests and got a half @rse response from the GM saying that they "graciously" offered my Platinum amenity after verifying the rate was booked on spg.com. Really, graciously? They either just don't get it or don't care.
The room itself was fine, except the bathroom wreaked of fried grease. I'm assuming the vents were connected to the hotel restaurant. It was quite disgusting to spend any time in the bathroom. I had to keep the door closed the whole time.
For the above reasons, this property is now on my AVOID list of NYC hotels.

I am guessing yes to all of your questions. But we do not know what the B'fast amenity for plat's will really be just yet.
With that being said the menu prices are very fair IMO-much cheaper than hotel resturant across the Hudson-and in nice weather there is a great patio with a killer view.

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

Of course, you can order regular breakfast via room service, but watch out for extra tips employees add for themselves on your final bill.

This was the email I got after I found out the unauthorized tips:
I am the Director of Outlets at W Hoboken and appreciate you bringing your concern to our attention this morning regarding the attached check. I apologize for the inconvenience and would like to reassure you that this is not an acceptable practice at W Hoboken. We have adjusted the charge off your folio for your stay.
I wonder if you could take a moment and review the attached check to confirm that the gratuity listed was not completed by yourself. I appreciate your time and thank you again for staying with us at W Hoboken and we hope that you return to visit us soon.
All the best

Just reading about the tip issues in the posts above. I went to the W once for dinner and the Chandelier Room after. They overcharged nearly all of us in some way or another. My favorite was the mandatory 20% tip they include on all tabs at the bar, but neglect to point out and leave a nice blank tip line for you to fill out. I'm certain that most first timers there leave 40% total tips. Haven't been back, mostly because of that.

I live across the street and at least as of last night, they had no power. Not sure if they are open (I doubt it), but if they are I'm sure the guests are not happy.

I will try later (not there now - managed to drive out for a bit) but it basically looks normal. There is no flooding around the W or surrounding few blocks. The real flooding is on the south / southwest parts of the city.

Has anyone ever found any C&P availability for this hotel? Not only is there none available whenever I look, but there's none available for months and months. Feature or bug?
