I see a lot of new faces at the Front Desk. It will undoubtedly take them a bit of time to learn who the regulars are.

I have a preference for a top-sheet only, no blanket or duvet. Myt bed was properly prepared both 10 days ago when I stayed here, and today when I checked in again.

Indeed, the check-in clerk who escorted me to my room today told me he only started here last week.

One jarring comment - although the number of stays is not showing on the room slip, the person who checked me in welcomed me back for my 51st stay.
Well, I know I received my 50th stay specialty suite certificate a couple of years ago, then could not use it on 2 subsequent stays; then I did use it, and then
I have been back several times since. So this has to be stay # 56-58. So they have incomplete/incorrect data when migrating to the new system.

One more reason I love this hotel. While I don't want to go into specifics lest other people abuse the special consideration I was given, or complain they do not get the same treatment,
I was blown away by a special offer that was made to me when checking in. It just reflects why I keep coming back here.

Anyone knows if Basil still offering cooking class or not? I sent an email to them two weeks ago using the email address listed in their online store to ask about the arrangement after buying the cooking class package there... But no one get back to me even I've sent them a follow-up email....

Really can't feel how SGS excel compared to other hotels in Bangkok at this moment....

Basil has been closed on and off for renovations lately.

I'd suggest you contact the concierge rather than Basil. They've never taken more than 24 hours to respond to any inquiry I've had. [email protected]

Will someone please confirm if the room/bathroom photos of the Premiere room at the SGS on the Marriott website are of the newly remodeled Premiere rooms? The photos I'm seeing depict a green/blue tile bathroom and what appears to be a 2-room suite. Are these the remodeled rooms? If so, they appear a little "tired" from the photos, but perhaps they look better in person?

Interesting to hear, I've got to say I'm feeling the opposite based on a recent stay.

I'm a fan of the property and have stayed around 60 times but I feel it may be losing the amazing little touches that kept me coming back time after time despite the style of the rooms / lack of lounge being pretty far from my taste.

They have set themselves a very high bar and I guess when those expectations are not met it is all the more noticeable. In this case an actual screw up regarding the reservation (1st time ever) and them not recognising a special occasion they were aware of.

For me one thing that particularly stood out was the change of guard on the front desk. During my stay I didn't recognise anyone there and they didn't recognise me. It was always very much appreciated to be greeted by name at check in so it was a little jarring to be treated as a complete stranger this time.

I've been trying the JW and St Regis a little on recent stays however the personal touches of the SGS are what kept me coming back. If these are lost then so is the draw to stay at the property.

Are you asking based on the description in the wiki? Because that is outdated and no longer accurate. The three classes of rooms at SGS presently are "Grande," "Premier," and "Luxury." As I understand it, the rooms are the same, the higher room classes are higher floors with added service amenities.

The furnishings are definitely a bit outdated but still fine. The bathrooms in particular could use an updating. Note that several of the speciality suites have been completely renovated.

I've been disappointed with the front desk my last three stays or so. Last time, they completely failed to recognize me as a repeat guest, which had several negative repercussions. There was eventual service recovery, but it required me complaining, which I would really prefer not to do at this property (or in Thailand in general).

To be fair, the boys on the door are the same crew and are always extremely welcoming. From what I heard, a lot of the front desk staff have moved en masse to become cabin crew. I guess this is where the issues have arisen as the SGS tries to bring on a large number of new staff at the same time, it is hard to maintain the culture with such a number of simultaneous departures.

Dear CharlotteYork,

The photos on the Marriott website are our actual room and bathroom photos. All our bathroom tiles have green/blue tiles. During the renovation we did replace the shower fittings, installed a hose spray, improved the lighting and changed the color scheme of the timber finish. However one main item which remained unchanged was the tiles. We decided not to replace these handmade tiles from Chiang Mai with the ubiquitous marble, found in so many hotels, in order to reflect the indigenous Thai feeling.

Dear newshound,

First of all, thank you very much for your loyalty and continuous support for Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit over the years. However, I have noted your comment about the check-in experience and understand that you were disappointed with the service provided by our Guest Service Agents who failed to recognize you as a returning and loyal patron of the hotel upon your arrival. In December we underwent a system change, as a result we lost some guest data, including details of our repeat guests. As a result we have to manually look up every guest to check for previous visits. Unfortunately, our agent failed to carry out this extra task and hence the failure to recognize you as returning guest. My sincere apologies. I am truly sorry for the feeling created which is way below our normal standard practised at the hotel reception. Rest assured that I have shared your feedback with our Front Office Manager to retrain all the Guest Service Agents to always deliver personalized service to our guest with a more attentive and caring manner. I sincerely apologize for your inconvenience and very much look forward to welcome you back again soon.

With kind regards,
Richard Chapman

Thanks for getting back, even though it's just another canned reply... The info you posted is exactly the same as what is listed in your online store....

Specifically I asked, among others, these two questions in the email sent to that email address that I'd really want to know before making the non-refundable purchase:
  1. How should I make a reservation after I purchase a voucher in your online store?
  2. Are we expected to complete the entire cooking and eating the food we cooked during the 3 hour class time?
Thanks
