I have just made a booking at this hotel (I usually stay at the Westin), it will be my 6th SPG hotel in Bangkok. I look forward to supporting them at this difficult time.

There is one problem with this - once u experience SGS you will never be able to go back to the Westin

I spent a small fortune at Basil and then the Living Room last week partly to support the hotel. Certainly could have used the 30% discount they were offering house guests: the cognac tab added up very quickly!

Sounds like you should have signed up for the Club Card:

Very good advice. Many of the major hotels in Bangkok offer this type of discount program and they are excellent value if you are planning on using the hotel F&B services regularly.

Seems the hotel is quite full despite the protests which has simmered.

Didn't get an upgrade to a suite today.

Some shops around the area remain closed though.

Did you happen to inquire about the percent of occupancy?

Did.

Of course the occupancy is not so good as usual, but better than one would expect being near the protest zone.

After having had the pleasure of staying at the SGS on two different occasions, each time having been pampered like nowhere else, we were planning on returning there at the end of February. The recent developments in Bangkok make us hesitate, though. The hotel is right in the middle of the "action" at the Asoke intersection and their food and beverage services have been reduced. As I understand it, BarSu is closed, and their fabulous poolside breakfast is only available on weekends. According to Richard Barrow's excellent blog / web site, Asoke is relatively quiet during the time, but extremely crowded at night.

My wife and I like to enjoy Bangkok nightlife and generally return to the hotel well after the Skytrain stops operating. Our fear is that taxis or tuk tuk drivers will refuse, or at least ask for a hefty surcharge, to bring us to Asoke at night. Anyone here who has very recently stayed at SGS and can give me feedback on reaching the hotel during the night?
Alternatively, can you safely walk from Nana to Asoke at night?
Another question we have is regarding noise levels during the nighttime protests. We always book a lake facing room, which is extremely quiet in normal circumstances. Is there anyone out here who has booked a lake facing room recently? Can you hear the protests in the room?

Thanks for the feedback!

yes you can walk safely from Nana. We stayed at Westin yesterday and had no problem with the protest site at Asok. Everyone is complaining but I'm happy theres no traffic jam

1) Taxis - no problem. Unless it is your first time in Bangkok, you
should never be taking a Tuk-tuk ( too hot, expensive, dangerous).
2) Absolutely no problem walking along Suk, either Asoke-Nana, or even
crossing Asoke heading up to 33, Emporium, Cowboy, etc.
3) In a high lake facing room, I found the "protest" music too loud to
sleep one night, but it ended shortly after midnight. Sounds like
you will be out well after that, so should be no problem.

And... as odd as it may sound, I do enjoy a Tuk Tuk ride once in a while.
