I just wanted to post how my stay went, as there seems to be a lot of inconsistency of quality. I had a great check in with a very nice staff member, I was staying on cash and points and got upgraded to one of the highest floor rooms over looking the Charles river. It really was an amazing view to wake up to. Overall the room may have been a tad dated yes, but everything was clean and functional and the bed was quite comfortable. The bathroom was quite small as other's have mentioned. But as I was staying alone, it wasn't an issue...the door is challenging to close when you are inside the bathroom because of the space tightness. The location was fantastic, as the T is a minute walk away at Prudential station. The lack of breakfast on "weekends," which includes Mondays, is kind of a let down, but food isn't too far. I would stay here again, as options in Boston are quite pricey. With the platinum upgrade, it's a pretty good deal.

Once again a really nice stay at the Sheraton Boston.

I was upgraded to a club room on top of the free valet parking promo they have going now. First time at a club room here, and both the club room and the bedroom really are of a high quality fit and finish. Nice design touches abound...maybe this was part of the Sheraton renewal project?

I have a couple questions about this hotel.

I have a wedding to attend at the Marriott Long Wharf on a Saturday night later this spring. I don't want to spend the $350/night+ to stay at the Marriott, so I'm looking for something reasonable in cost. I won't be spending much time at the hotel -- mostly just crashing after the evening wedding.

The Sheraton Boston is available on C&P ($60 + 4000 points), which seems quite reasonable for Boston (cheapest rooms seem to be $220+). But I'm not particularly "excited" about staying in a convention-sized big city hotel, especially since as an SPG gold I don't get any useful amenities thrown in (here's where free breakfast like Hilton offers to Golds would tip the scale).

Is there any reasonable parking option? I read somewhere that it's over $40 to park at the hotel, which would convince me to stay elsewhere.

I'm thinking also of the Le Meridien in Cambridge, which has fairly reasonable rates.

I'm also considering staying for free using Choice points at the surprisingly well-regarded Comfort Inn Logan Airport. Free parking and breakfast there.

Do you want to be in Boston proper? If so, the Comfort Inn Logan Airport won't work. If that doesn't matter, go for the Comfort Inn Logan Airport.

Otherwise, the C&P rate sounds amazing. That's a no brainer for me. I wouldn't want to be at the airport....but, for some it's fine.

But, why are you getting a car, anyway? Take the T or a cab to the wedding. If you need a car for the latter part of your trip, pick it up after the wedding.

Oh, and if you're "just crashing", have you checked out the Westin on the waterfront? It's usually cheap on the weekends, and it's a bit closer to the Marriott Long Warf. Still, no car necessary. SOmeone else can better advise, but I think you can take the water shuttle from the airport and then a short cab ride to the hotel.

If you know Boston, then you know that this is simply the price of having a car. Not dissimilar from NYC or SFO. It's expensive and very unnecessary to have a car. Wait'll you drive your car over to the Long Wharf and park in the Aquarium Parking Lot for the wedding. 6 hours in that garage will likely run you $36+++. FAR FAR better to take public transportation here.

And, for heaven's sake, do NOT stay at any airport hotel if you want any flavor of this remarkable city at all. Boston is one of America's great walking cities -- full of history and rich experiences. Yes, the Sheraton BOS is huge, but it's incredibly well placed for business and touristy things. Suck it up, stay there and have a great time.

Truth be told, I have stayed at the Westin Airport hotel. But, I used to live in Boston so I have experienced the city many times. Been there, done that. I GREATLY prefer to stay in the city when I visit...but, sometimes I stay at the Westin Airport for rate reasons (and I know how to easily get to the city).

If you are a newbie to Boston, I would want to stay at one of Starwood's Copley properties (i.e., Sheraton or Boston).

If you're driving into Boston from somewhere in New England (or wherever) and will have the car anyway, I suggest you stay in Cambride, either the LM or Sheraton Commander. We last stayed at the Commander about three years ago (usually stay at the Sheraton) and the building was a bit tired, but it is a grand property and we were treated well and upgraded to a suite, and given breakfast coupons. Cambridge has a lot a nice eating and shopping places to visit, but if you will be re-joining the wedding party the next morning and just need a place to crash and pick up some food after the all-night party, explore your Comfort Inn option.

Yeah, I need the car to drive to BOS -- so I need to park it somewhere.

Purpose of the trip is not to "enjoy" BOS -- although if I get a few hours away from family obligations, I will certainly try to.

In NYC when I have a car, I can usually find someplace affordable to leave it. On the street, in a discounted garage, etc (there's even a website that helps you find these). Is there no place affordable you can leave a car in BOS on the weekend? Paying $36 to park for 6 hours on the weekend seems crazy, no? And paying over $40 to park overnight at the Sheraton would definitely convince me to crash elsewhere.

Cambridge sounds like a good option, and the rates at the LM are far more affordable than downtown BOS. I think I saw $130+/night. Only downside is I'd have to pay that -- for some reason, there's no C&P and it makes no sense to use 10,000 points.

I wish the wedding was in Midtown Manhattan. Seems cheaper.

We're talking 2 $20 bills here. No one loves paying to park, but if you're looking for convenience and handy access to a car (i.e. not parking 17 blocks away from where you are), you'll be hard pressed to find parking a lot less expensive in DT Boston. If you're really looking to shave a few bucks off, you should know that there is a very small street level parking lot directly across the street from the Sheraton's primary entrance on Dalton St. It only holds perhaps 50 cars (give or take) and is often jammed M-F, but I've had luck parking there arriving late Friday afternoons and during the weekends. It's perhaps $8 less a night than parking in the hotel garage. That's about as good as it's gonna get unless you're really committed to parking for less and are willing to hike distances to get to things.

And, just leave the car in the garage the whole time and rely on the excellent public transportation. One can get from the Sheraton to Aquarium in short order for cheap on the T.

I envision a lot of annoyed wedding guests. The Marriott Long Wharf is $349+/night, + parking. For anyone driving to BOS, it would definitely be easier to have the wedding in the burbs.
