Quick question - I want to apply for the Starwood AMX. Received a "by invitation only" in my email:

With the Card, your Starpoints can add up quickly:
• 10,000 bonus Starpoints after your first purchase on the Card
• 20,000 bonus Starpoints after you use your new Card to make $5,000 in purchases within the first 6 months
Enjoy an introductory annual fee of $0 for the first year, then $65

I'm hesitant to apply because I just got my AMX Everyday (the one with the fee) in late March. Do you think they will deny me based on "too soon to apply for new AMX?"

Here are the details:
I have great credit rating
The AMX Everyday is a personal card
If I apply for SPG I would apply for SPG business AMX, which is an option in the offer I got.

What do you think? Need advice on how frequent is too frequent.
Thanks.

FWIW, I opened 4 personal AMEX cards all within the past year. 2 were opened 2 days apart from each other. No prior relationship with AMEX. The best answer I can give you is it depends on many factors with your credit and such.

While I agree with what kxc262 - I would also suggest that if you are concerned about time you can wait a few weeks before you apply. IIRC the offer is valid until 6/30. Just make sure you leave enough time for approval before 6/30 (in the event you need reconsideration).

Can anyone answer the question that was asked about a 10-digit Starwoods number as compared to 11-digit?

The AMX app only allows 10-digits however my Starwood number is 11-digit. From reading this thread, it seems that other people have the same problem/question.

What should we do?

You can apply for now and just add the SPG number later when you get approved. That should be no problem.

PS - I have a referral if you need it too :D Good luck!

I was approved instantly for the biz card.

It is odd, that they don't allow 11-digits. Mostly all Starwood (except the old numbers) are 11-digits. What I did is to put in the first 10-digits.

I called them - gave them my temporary account number. They said to call back in 24 to 48 hours. Once the card is processed they can change the Starwoods number.

I also wanted to change where the card is mailed as I am currently out of state. They said they can do that also. It is odd, there is no business mailing address. They assume the physical mailing address is where you want all of your business mail sent. Not allowed to list PO boxes and such.

Card arrives via UPS.

Why on earth would I go to "pending review"? Haven't applied for an Amex in 20 years. Have only one cc hard pull on my credit from last October (Chase). 780 FICO. Good grief. Husband applied for Amex Skymiles (approved after 5 minute pending) and Chase Bold (still pending) last week. I did add him as an additional card holder. Would that trigger pending?

UPDATE: figured what the heck I'll google Amex app status and found the site, entered info and voila. Approved. I think I'm just impatient and freaked when I see that page "pending review," esp after the brutal interrogation from Chase last fall.

Check Amex status (for those of you who google "pending review" and find this post):

Could be many reasons - maybe the Chase pending from last week triggered it?

Definitely. Just did it last month.

I've had a person Starwood Amex for many years. Just got the "Refer a Friend" email to earn bonus Starpoints. I was wondering if I could refer "myself" under my business and qualify for the bonuses on both sides of the transaction? I have a Business Gold Rewards Amex for my company so there is AXP credit history associated with that EIN.

Thanks

In my understanding you cannot generate a referral for the Business card unless you currently hold that Business card.

If I just received the card prior to this 30,000 point sign up bonus promotion, what are my chances of getting the 25,000 point offer matched to 30,000. I called in and they said they couldn't and have to "look into it". Anyone have any issues or data points?

We apologize for the trouble you experienced with your application for the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. American Express has identified the error that prevented SPG members with an ID larger than 10 digits to enter this as part of their application. We are happy to report that the issue has been fixed.

I have a SPG Amex that's been active and my primary card for 10 years, applied for another AMEX product, got pending review, called in, they didn't ask any questions except my name and to verify SSN and phone number, approved. Very strange and a waste of time, but certainly not anything to fret.
