Just saw a blogger posting that you can only achieve "SPG Gold status with $30K" spend on business card only now, not personal card.

Is this correct?

I have both the personal and business card, but put the majority of my spending on the personal card. It seemed to me that my $30k spend was a combination of both. I certainly do not spend $30k on one card ,and I seem to have Gold status each year.

If I click on card benefits, it's still being advertised, "Upgrade to SPG Gold status when you spend $30,000 on the Card in a calendar year." Also I'm surprised you say you received Gold after spending $30k combined between 2 cards. You can easily see your total spending on 1 card by checking the bottom of your Dec. 2013 statement.

I agree. I read the post earlier today and thought it was a pretty irresponsible post. It did not appear that he endeavored to confirm his (misguided) interpretation of the new terms. Despite this, he states them as if they are fact with absolute certainty. I view it as an attempt to find any reason to plug for the SPG card that he can while the promo is ongoing, regardless of whether is reports are accurate. I'm neither a cheerleader for the bloggers, nor am I an outspoken critic, but this post was just flat out bad.

The post refers to a "NEW" SPG card it looks like

As I interpret the blog to which you refer I read that there is a new "Preferred Guest" version of both the personal and of the business cards. Apparently there are now two versions. What's up with that?

What, specifically, did you read which gave this impression? The program name has long been Starwood Preferred Guest, and that is incorporated into the name of the credit cards.

Money pushes these guys into uneasy positions. Just a part of life.

Thanks Lurker!

I'm very glad to hear that from you. ^

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I really, really wish that the Refer A Friend bonus showed up a tad more specifically than:

Earn +5,000 06/16/2014 SPG AX DEFAULT

I sent out about 5 referrals in the past 2-4 weeks. I'd really like to know which of them used my referral!

Kind of frustrating how the referral bonus shows up on spg.com :(

This won't happen because of privacy concerns. Not everyone who applies for a credit card is approved. Telling you whose referral generated the bonus would reveal sensitive financial information.

I don't disagree.

Just think the "AX DEFAULT" language is unnecessarily vague.

Wouldn't even know that was a referral bonus but for FT and the exact 5k amount.

Interesting, mine says:

SPG AX MBR REFERRAL - CONSUMER

Not specific enough to know who took the referral and was approved, but good enough for me to know for sure where the points are coming from.

Is yours a business or personal card? Mine is personal.
