I received the same letter yesterday. Called for an explanation. It turns out that I was credited 9 cents, also.

I have two personal USA-issued American Express cards (one charge card, one credit card). I applied for the SPG card through a referral invitation. There is no language in the referral offer which would allow American Express to deny the bonus, unless I had the same card within the past 12 month.
I made the $5,000 spend on Friday. Both the 10,000 and 15,000 point bonuses have already posted. |

I decided to inquire about the 15K via chat and was told he WOULD receive the 15,000 points ( I realize the rep could be mistaken) for spending $5k within 6 months I used the incognito browser for my application and was told I would NOT receive the points because I have AMEX cards open I would go with an app link from a referral if you get the SPG card and have another AMEX personal open. |
SPG upgrade to gold at 30k spend?
Just got my new SPG....I thought at 30k spend they upgraded you to gold at SPG properties but they are telling me at AMEX they never heard of it?
|
I just got an SPG credit card and plan to spend a lot on it... I thought after 30K you got gold status at SPG but amex is acting confused. Am I dumb?

Here is the link for SPG business card (can't find the link for personal card)
https://www.americanexpress.com/us/s...ss-credit-card The link above says that the card member will be upgraded to gold after 30K spend in a calendar year.

Inquiry transferred to Starwood Preferred Guest forum because it pertains to an SPG benefit.
Bear in mind that the $30,000 spend requirement must be met in a single calendar year. Progress toward the objective is tracked by American Express and reported each month on the paper or pdf statement in this format: Your qualifying Year-to-Date spending on your Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express is $X,040.00. To qualify for Starwood Gold Preferred Guest® Status, you need to have $30,000 in qualified spend by December 31st. |

Goes by calendar year. Was it all since Jan. 1?
Everytime I call AMEX I get a nice... but not really empowered person. I may have to try to escalate up the chain a little. |
SPG Amex Multipliers
Hey SPG users,
I have an SPG card and might be using it for a few expenditures in my upcoming travel plans. My understanding is that you will only get 1 point per dollar spent, and 5X spent on SPG hotels. Are there any other kind of multipliers out there? For example, if I book flight arrangements through Amex Travel and use my SPG card, is there a multiplier for each dollar spent there? This would be helpful information as I plan on booking flights to Singapore and Australia from NYC soon. If there are no multipliers, then it might be worth keeping this spend on my Chase Sapphire Preferred and getting that 2x/3x through Ultimate Rewards. Thanks! |

Oh man, it's been a while since I stayed at an SPG hotel... the 5X number did sound kind of outrageous. For future reference, if you are staying at an SPG hotel and have signed up for a 2x promotion, does your SPG card make it 2x ON TOP of the promotion (for a total of 4x) or does it just add one extra point, for a total of 3x?
|
I think that your 5x is coming from the following:
Base points/$ = 2 Elite bonus/$ = 1 Amex base point/$ = 1 Amex bonus point for using at SPG hotel/$ = 1 Total = 5/$ |

100x2 (base) 100x2 (doubled) 120x2 (Amex) 640 total |
