I received the 10k first purchase and have reached the $5k spending and didn't get the spending bonus. I talked with Amex via the live chat and was told the 25k offer wasn't valid on my account

I haven't talked to AMEX yet but same story: only received 10k on a new business card despite meeting the threshold 2 months ago. The terms say I can't have the account for the previous 12 months which is definitely the case.

Why did everything go haywire this year? I don't remember so many complaints about bonus problems in the past, but maybe I wasn't paying attention.

I want to confirm - there is no shopping portal / dining promotions for bonus points for the SPG card, correct?

Correct. The card is already excessively generous with an average value of 2.5 cents per Starpoint.

On the Canada Amex website - it shows a chip on the Starwood card.

Any chance they'll be offering these on the USA cards soon?

Hello,

I am having a big issue with SPG and Amex... I have had a Starwood Amex for a few years and just opened a Business one last month on the promise that I would get 5 nights/2 stays towards elite status...

It's been a month now and I still haven't gotten that benefit.

I called American Express and Starwood but nobody knew what to do... and now after finally reaching a manager who seems to know what I was talking about, I get an email saying "The benefit is limited to one annual credit per Starwood Preferred Guest account. "

Shouldn't it be one credit per Personal card and one per Business card, and if that is the case, how can I get SPG and AMEX to give me the 5 nights/2 stays before the end of the year? (besides contacting SPG, AMEX on the phone or online... as it didn't work obviously).

Thanks!

My apologies. Something tells me there is probably a duplicate account in your name that has 2 stays and 5 nights attached to it for one of these cards. If you would like for us to look into it further to confirm that is the case, please send us your SPG account number to the email address below.

I did email you. Thank you in advance... it's really been frustrating to find s.o. at SPG or Amex who knows something about how this particular benefit works...

Data point

I applied for the personal card on 12/14 and rec. it on 12/18. The last time I had this card was ~2 yrs ago. My 10K first-purchase points posted on 12/24 and my 1st statement hasn't even hit yet! :) Good on ya, AMEX.

Is two years the time interval that's needed between apps? Am curious as I'm over a year now and am wondering when I can apply again. Did you close your card account prior to re-applying?

I am brand new to Starwood, just got the AX card; have been a Hilton Diamond for 13 years so understand redemption rates. I signed up for the AX with the intention of converting 20k to 25k AA miles which I value at .04 we go to Europe every summer in J ($4000 RT is conservative) so every year I need to earn 200k AA miles. So now I'm thinking maybe it woud be more judicious to use them for Starwood stays; after 13 years one kind of gets tired of the same hotels - so I checked a few Starwood hotels in London which had rooms for 20k points or in my parlance $800. What a shocker who would ever use $800 worth of points for a $375 hotel; I am obviously missing something here? Hilton points as many of you know have become much less valuable, probably around .01 so this card will be great for boosting AA. Does any one use their points for actual hotel stays?

Yes I frequently do. Recently redeemed 5 nights is NYC which would typically have cost over $2000 or 12000 points per night for 36000.

Remember that if you book 5 nights you pay for 4

Depending on what hotel you are looking at in London and for what timeframe - the hotels there in particular can be a great value. The W appears to go for ~600/night (non-refundable prepaid rate in September listed at 373 GBP = $616). With 5th night free, during off-peak rate of 20,000 / night (16,000/night after 5th night free) that means you're getting +/-.0375 / point.

In short, I think you value AA miles higher than most people do. SPG can have great value for hotel redemptions, certainly far greater than Hilton.

I've been wondering the same thing. I still have the card but am thinking of canceling to re-churn.

Read the T&Cs as it usually states the time required. As an example in the UK it is 6 months
