This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

I've stayed at this hotel for 5 years running when I'm in town for the IBC show. Other than getting toasted on the price during the show (395E for exec floor, which drops to 219 after show ends, or something like that), I really like the place. My rooms have always been nice (ie, not tired). The hotel restaurant is no great shakes & there's just a sports bar, but overall I'd give this hotel good reviews. But do a search - lots of threads & I think I did a more in-depth report back in Sept. No time to look it up for you.

I stayed there for a couple nights in June 2003. The concierge level lounge is really nice - with exceptional staff who really spoiled us! Great location. Property is older, so our room was "average" but the lounge staff more than compensated. I would certainly stay there again.

Amsterdam: Marriott or Renaissance?
I have a 1-night award stay coming up in early April in Amsterdam and I've booked both the Marriott and the Renaissance (requiring 30K and 25K points, respectively). Which reservation should I keep?

What are you looking for? Do you have a car? Do you want easy access to the museums, upscale shops, and an area rich in foreign visitors or is easy access to the railroad station, business districts, and red light area important to you?

Really comes down to:
1) Do you want to be near Leidseplein
or
2) Near Amsterdam Centraal.
Personally I prefer the convenience of walking with my rolling luggage to the Ren. From there I can walk wherever I want w/o luggage. Also like the character of the Ren rooms made from old rowhouses vs modern feel of Marriott.

We had a very nice stay at the Renaissance. Great location as it's only a short walk to the pier where the canal tours depart; the tram stop is less than a block away. We stayed on the concierge level. The room was very nice and the lounge had nice snacks. The only drawback was absolutely no hard liquor was available in the lounge; only wine was available and it was complimentary.
Service from the hotel staff was impeccible.

You can also catch a canal tour from the Marriott.

There is a tram stop just across the street from the Marriott which is a 5 minute ride to Central Station.

The Marriott has a very nice lounge with great staff. The lounge has a full bar in the evening at no cost.
The Marriott is closer to the museum area and is right next to Vondel Park if you like to walk or jog in the morning. Additionally the Marriott has a brand new work out facility which is open 24 hours.
In any case I think you will be happy with either property as they are both in the middle of everything.

When in need of a hotel review, Trip Advisor is always a good source. Here are their reviews of the Marriott and Renaissance.

How's the Renaissance in Amsterdam
Hey Gang,
My neighbors, my gf and I got a room at the Renaissance in Amsterdam for $100 per night.... I was wondering how's the stay there... and do they have King beds??? Because I've been to a few European hotels and most of them have a Queen size bed or smaller...

The king is two twins put together. We were stuck in AMS at this hotel for a week after 911 and there is much, much information on this hotel if you do a simple search.

Stayed there for one night in April on an award stay. Great location, near the rail station and close to the canals. Full service hotel with high meal prices, but good restaurants close by. Good concierge service--helped us a lot. Room was small but clean and functional with king bed. All amenities you would expect. My wife noticed an ad for an escort service (with phone nbr) on a light pole just outside the hotel. I would go back there again because of the great location. $100 is a super rate, as they wanted Euro 200 if we wanted to extend for an additional night, which we didn't.
