I sure hope Canadians give a pass to any US travel. I know I am.

same airfare? More like 5 times for business class, and twice as long a flight.

Not everyone has to fly business class, and I would agree - I flew to Asia for like $500 from the US last December.

Not wanting or being able to fly coach from US to Asia is anything but dumb. Fine for those that want to, clueless to think if they don’t, it's because they don't know about Asia.

I love Asia. It's not Hawaii, and not a substitute.

I am doing some searches in London, and there are still 0.8+ USD CPP redemptions to be found.

Well, unfortunately, I was looking at the wrong month when I found those great redemptions…oh, well, have to remain flexible!

Folks, in response to a number of 'Bad Post' reports about the thread going OMNI, a few posts have been deleted.

The thread topic is "Was there a points devaluation on Jan 27 ?"

I’m seeing the W Aspen is averaging about 125k per night in the ski season, used to be closer to 100k

Considering the fact that the Canadian dollar is down to a record low of 68 US cents, any Canadian had better be very rich or frugal to afford travel to the US, if alternatives are available elsewhere.

Meanwhile, since there is no end in sight to the plummeting Canadian dollar, I will be increasing my travel to Canada, as soon as the weather permits....

This is the real reason they remove the award chart, its so much more difficult to get a handle on the loss of value of your points when theirs no award chart. Their will still be examples which don't lose value, but across the board I reckon they aim for about a 15% devaluation per year.

This was what has been generally reported, with the exceptions for aspirational properties. Of course hotel rates are generally up across the board, so this makes sense from that perspective. But conversely the increases also apply at properties where the rates were reduced. This is contrary to Hyatt where award rates are adjusted up and down each year. At Marriott they only go up.

While it is a devaluation in that points are now worth less at certain properties, the better term is probably “re-indexing”.

After the introduction of dynamic pricing, Bonvoy points are generally worth between $0.006 and $0.008 compared to cash rates, inclusive of taxes that would be paid on the cash rate. Properties with redemptions providing outsized value compared to that (and which another poster probably correctly pointed out, become popular for redemptions) will thus become targets for award rate increases.

For sure they are targeting the aspirational properties for massive increases as well as the city locations where people typically use points due to high rates (London, NYC)

100% agreed on that point- it’s time for Marriott to increase the redemption rates on the various levels of FNCs.

With all the points inflation that’s happened over the past few years, the 35k certs should really be 40-45k now.

Yes this is a major beef for many of us. At one point the 35k certs became fairly worthless, but that changed during the pandemic. Now it seems we are back to the future. The 85k certs offer much more value but not as useful unless you are able to accumulate multiple certs (i.e. 2 player mode, multiple cards)

Similarly St. Regis Aspen was one of my favorite redemptions. During the SPG transition it was a steal at 60k, more recently it went up to 85k which was still a great deal on a 5 night redemption when nightly rates = $1500. I hesitate to look now...

Had one of my upcoming reservations drop by 9K points when I checked today - it always pays to check in the paradigm of dynamic pricing!

Edit to Add: And another dropped by 4K!

I always use Rate Drop (the same site as Hotel Mattress Run) for this: https://www.ratedrop.com/home/index

I don’t see the points value of the annual FNC going higher than 35k unless the annual Chase Bonvoy card fee goes higher than $95.

I think a fair compromise might be to increase the supplement ceiling up higher from 15,000
