Redemption reservation
I booked a 5 night stay using points on a pointsavers redemption and it says an e-cerificate will be required prior to check-in.
Not sure what an e-cerificate is, anyone encountered this before?
There are basically 3 options when booking the same room type on points.
1. Pointsavers redemption
2. Cash and points redemption
3. Redemption

Some Marriott veterans might correct me on this, but I believe the eCertificate language is a holdover from when points reservations could be done in multiple steps. PointsSavers (another Marriott holdover) retain that language, but making the reservation creates the certificate and deducts the points automatically now.

After Marriott discontinued the Points Advance Reservations a few years ago, all award reservations should deduct the requisite points at the time of booking. Furthemore if you don't have enough points, the system should prompt you to buy the additional points needed to complete the reservation. So unless there was a weird glitch, always possible with Marriott though unlikely in this case, the points should have been deducted when you made the reservation and the associated e-certificate is created and attached to the reservation. Were the points for your award reservationn deducted at the time of booking? As long as they were, you're good to go.

If PointsSavers exists, theres no downside to pick that one unless the cancellation policy is wonky. I did one earlier this year at Newark Liberty Marriott.

Sometimes PointSavers are only available for only some of the room types. For the other room types, regular award rates may apply. I agree with ElevatorEnthusiast whenever the PointSaver rate is offered, there is no downside to it. It is just some savings for you. Enjoy....
