Some Marriott veterans might correct me on this, but I believe the eCertificate language is a holdover from when points reservations could be done in multiple steps. PointsSavers (another Marriott holdover) retain that language, but making the reservation creates the certificate and deducts the points automatically now.
After Marriott discontinued the Points Advance Reservations a few years ago, all award reservations should deduct the requisite points at the time of booking. Furthemore if you don't have enough points, the system should prompt you to buy the additional points needed to complete the reservation. So unless there was a weird glitch, always possible with Marriott though unlikely in this case, the points should have been deducted when you made the reservation and the associated e-certificate is created and attached to the reservation. Were the points for your award reservationn deducted at the time of booking? As long as they were, you're good to go.
