The Dubai EDITION [Master Thread]
Creating a dedicated thread for the upcoming Dubai EDITION, located in the Downtown Dubai district steps from the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa.
Property pages available at the EDITION site here and the Marriott.com page here. Property code is DXBED and for some reason, Marriott has it listed as 'E Hotel, Operated by Marriott International" even though the building has EDITION signage all over it.
If all goes to plan, this one is opening November 15th. A sneak peek of the restaurant, Duomo, is available at the following link.

This is interesting... according to this article, the hotel is opening tomorrow as The E Hotel because it "doesn't meet the standards and requirements of the [EDITION] brand" yet. The plan is to join EDITION fully in "in the future" with an undetermined date.
So weird - especially with all the big, illuminated EDITION logos all over the building.

November 14, 2021 -
The Dubai EDITION hotel will no longer be opening this year. Instead, the property will launch tomorrow (Monday, November 15) as The E Hotel Dubai.
The EDITION, part of Marriott International’s portfolio, was due to open in the heart of Dubai’s Downtown district, with views of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.
However, the SOL Properties development will now run under different branding, with view to becoming an EDITION ‘in the future’. It will, however, still be managed by Marriott International in the interim.
A statement from EDITION said: “The E Hotel Dubai, will open in Downtown Dubai on Dubai Fountain Street on November 15, 2021.
“The hotel will open in the future as The Dubai EDITION when it meets the standards and requirements of the brand.”
Previous announcements say the property was designed by LW Design Group and features 210 rooms and suites. There are also three F&B outlets planned, as well as a pool, spa and gym.
As of the weekend, EDITION branding was still visible on the hotel’s exterior.

So what brand will the E Hotel be in? Part of the EDITION brand but just not branded as EDITION?

Not sure what they will do with the price once they have fixed the issue. I looked up a few dates and it was 700+ per night. Although I like the Edition hotel, without any real benefits for Plats, Titanium and Ambassadors (not even free breakfast) I truly doubt if they can maintain this price level..?

It would seem to me that this hotel is being positioned to compete with something like the Four Seasons DIFC, with similar pricing, room sizes and maybe in some peoples eyes, a better city location. If they manage to address the brand deficiencies and this turns out to be a great hotel (well see if yes/no, sounds like a dubious start to me), then why wouldnt they be able to keep the price level? Edition brand doesnt seem to me as targeting the Elite benefit seeking membership, but maybe the member with disposable income, that says Let me try it and get some Bonvoy points too. If they suck, well see the results soon enough (*cough, St Regis Downtown, cough*).

I wonder if Marriott could ironically and accidentally put the E hotel in a brand category which actually provides elite benefits until the hotel converts to an Edition.

I agree with an above post: this one looks exceptionally meh. I saw a photo of the grand staircase in the lobby, and its essentially giant swirl of shiny, white plastic that looks cheap and clashing rather than elegant and dramatic like the one in Shanghai - ironically very on point for the rest of this city.

No two cities are alike; Why should our hotels be? From New York City to Sanya, China, each property is designed to give guests a curated taste of the locale, reflecting the best of cultural and social miliieu.
Perhaps not ironic at all? Maybe they are on brand standard…Lol.
No offense to any Dubai residents…all in good fun…

I stop reading at "curated." Purely meaningless marketing speak, it generally indicates a focus on style (and empty words) over substance. Which perfectly describes the Edition approach as far as I'm concerned. Give them a cool, lively bar, and they'll overlook all the other shortcomings. Classic Ian Schrager.

I disagree that it's meaningless - it generally means the hotel has a limited range of facilities / services but is instead trying to spin this lack of choice as a positive!
Rather like when airlines claim something has been 'enhanced'...
I will be shocked if this is anywhere near the quality of the FS DIFC. The FS DIFC prices like a luxury beach resort but without actually being on the beach given access to the FS beach facilities, I can't see this place sustaining FS DIFC prices for long.

The property now seems to be showing as The Dubai EDITION in the app instead of the E Hotel shenanigans. The cash rates seem utterly bananas for a stay in December, in my opinion - much higher than competitors.

I can't help but laugh... on November 14th, the hotel won't open on the 15th as an EDITION because it doesn't meet brand standards. Now, on November 16th, it's open as an EDITION because "there no longer seems to be any issue" and they are "excited about the addition of this property" to their portfolio.

November 16, 2021 - The Dubai EDITION is now open, becoming the second EDITION property in the region, after Abu Dhabi.
The new hotel is in Downtown Dubai, with views of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountains. Popular restaurant CZN Burak and the Dubai Mall is just across the road, for those familiar with the area.
The opening comes just a couple of days after a spokesperson for the EDITION brand, which is part of Marriott International’s portfolio, said the property would be known as The E Dubai Hotel at first.
However, there no longer seems to be any issue with launching as an EDITION, as originally planned.
In a statement, Marriott said: “Marriott International and the owners have agreed to open The Dubai EDITION on November 15, 2021. We are excited about the addition of this property to our luxury portfolio in the UAE.”
Designed by LW Design Group, the hotel from developers Sol Properties features 275 guestrooms including 45 suites. Restaurants include Italian venue DUOMO, which has an outdoor terrace; Jolie, French restaurant inspired by Mediterranean coastal flavours; Thia, a poolside bar and lounge with uninterrupted views of the Burj Khalifa; and speakeasy-style bar Leon.
The hotel also has a spa with three treatment rooms, a pool, and a gym. There are also meeting rooms and a flexible event space.
