On 1/11/2021, Marriott announced its elite qualification for 2021.

For 2020 Elite status earners: To help you get to the next Elite level faster, we will deposit 50% of the required Elite Night Credits for your 2020 Elite status into your account by February 5, 2021. We have also reduced the required spend for Ambassador Elite to $14K annual qualifying spend in 2021 only. In 2022, the spend requirement will return to $20K annually.

Marriott Bonvoy™ Members who earned Elite Status in 2020 will receive a onetime deposit of 50% of their tier's annual Elite Night Credit requirement, e.g. those Members who achieved Platinum Elite status in 2020 would receive 25 Elite Night Credits in their Account in February 2021.

Since Members already received an extension of their earned 2019 Elite Status through February 1, 2022, the Elite Night Credit deposit helps Members reach the next tier faster.

In addition, these Elite Night Credits will count towards achieving the 2021 Annual Choice Benefit, as well as achieving Lifetime Elite Status. 50% Elite Night Credits deposit and remaining 2021 Requirements needed to achieve the next tier's Status are based on the 2020 earned Status tier as follows:

Ambassador Elite will receive 50 Elite Night Credits and will need an additional 50 Elite Night Credits and US$14,000 in Qualifying spend in 2021 to re-achieve Ambassador Status

Titanium Elite will receive 38 Elite Night Credits and will need an additional 62 Elite Night Credits and US$14,000 in Qualifying Stay Spend in 2021 to achieve Ambassador Elite

Platinum Elite will receive 25 Elite Night Credits and will need an additional 50 Elite Night Credits in 2021 to achieve Titanium Elite

Gold Elite will receive 13 Elite Night Credits and will need an additional 37 Elite Night Credits in 2021 to achieve Platinum Elite

Silver Elite will receive 5 Elite Night Credits and will need an additional 20 Elite Night Credits in 2021 to achieve Gold Elite

Member tier will not receive Elite Night Credits and will need a total of 10 Elite Night Credits in 2021 to achieve Silver Elite

Example:
A Member who earned Gold Elite Status in 2019 already received an extension of the Gold Elite Status to February 1, 2022. To achieve the next tier up of Platinum Elite in 2021 to enjoy through February 2023, the Member will need to achieve a total of 50 Elite Night Credits by December 31, 2021. This Gold Elite Member will receive 13 Elite Night Credits (50% of the 25 normally needed to requalify for Gold), which means the Member will only need 37 Elite Night Credits to achieve Platinum Elite this year.

Marriott Announces Goodwill Elite Qualification for 2021

Marriott Bonvoy verkündet Kulanzregelung für Elite-Mitglieder & mehr - InsideFlyer DE

Elite members receive 1/2 of existing elite tier status.

Marriott Bonvoy has chosen a different path that values existing status customers in particular: Each member of the loyalty program that holds a status is credited with 50 percent of the qualifying nights required. This is based on the individual status in 2020.

As a Silver Elite, you get five nights, as a Gold Elite 13 Elite nights, as Platinum Elite 25 qualifying nights, as Titanium Elite 38 Elite Night Credits and as Ambassador Elite 50 Nights. In addition, ambassador elite status revenue requirements will be reduced by 30 percent to USD 14,000 in 2021, from USD 20,000. The Elite Night Credits will be credited in February.

Official Marriott announcement:

For 2020 Elite status earners: To help you get to the next Elite level faster, we will deposit 50% of the required Elite Night Credits for your 2020 Elite status into your account by February 5, 2021. We have also reduced the required spend for Ambassador Elite to $14K annual qualifying spend in 2021 only. In 2022, the spend requirement will return to $20K annually.

Thanks.
So far, so good I guess. At least Marriott is throwing some bones. Still annoyed and thankful at the same time though. FWP FTW!

Yes. With the CC night credit, it is easy now to reach some of the elite requirement. Again, I'd like to get some of the credit back with the Marriott CC, like night credit for $3k spending.

That's not exactly what the article says.

It says these credits are based on the "individual status in 2020". What exactly does that mean?

If someone became Titanium in 2020 with 100+ night how many nights will that account receive as part of this campaign?
Assuming the member started the year either as Base/Silver/Gold/Platinum member.

Including the credit card nights that's a 55 night start for Platinum and 68 for Titanium and 80 for Ambassadors. I have 15 nights already booked in Q3/Q4 so just another 5 for Titanium, should be possible even this year.

If you start the year with Platinum status (50 night), you'll get 25 night credits already. So you'll need to work hard to earn 50 more credits to reach Titanium.

So basically it makes it easy to maintain current status, but making it more challenging to reach the next level. This is the difference of what Marriott is doing. If Marriott follow Hyatt to reduce elite requirement by 50%, then we only need 38 night credit to reach Titanium. This makes is so easy to reach. So Marriott makes it harder....

That's absolutely ridiculous.

Someone who had Titanium in 2019 already got the status extended until 2/2022 and now gets another 38 nights for free in 2021 while someone who made Titanium by nights in the worst year of Marriott's commercial history gets a pittance.

If they credit me 25 nights I'm going to call HQ and rip them a new one that's for sure.

I guess whether 50 nights and $14k spend to maintain Ambassador qualifies as "easy" depends on perspective. Not that I really care :-)

In any event, I guess this means I maintain a minimum of Platinum for 2022, with only 10 nights needed for Titanium. I wonder if the bonus nights will again credit towards LT? If so, I'll be pretty close to LTP.

So existing ambassadors will get 50 nights, correct? For the extra 50 nights (for total of 100 towards ambassador qualification) they need to spend US$14k which equates to US$280/night (excluding taxes and some charges). Normally it's 100 nights and $20k so $200/night.

So by reducing elite requirement by 50% for all members, ambassador would be the worst hit as our spend requirement per night increased from $200 to $280 (40% increase per night).

@skywalkerLAX

Well, Hyatt reduced its elite qualification by 50% outright. New CC application double the annual night credit. End of year and early 2021 stays qualify for double credits. I heard Hilton also reduced its elite requirement by 50% outright. Marriott does not even do that.

I guess you know how Marriott works. It does not care what you (or we) complain.....

Nothing about the current Ambassador program withstands rational scrutiny.

Personally I don't have an issue with $280 night threshold, but with the total lack of meaningful ROI.

This is not correct. Marriott does not reduce elite qualification by 50% outright. It only gives you credit for 50% of your existing elite qualification requirement. So Marriott Silver members get very little. They have to work really hard to reach Titanium etc.

Isn't 50% of your existing elite qualification requirement for Ambassadors, 50 nights? So that means Marriott gives me a credit of 50 nights and I need to spend 50 more nights in 2021 to maintain 2022 Ambassador benefits.

They're reducing 50% to maintain current tier. Not to reach a higher tier.

So if I'm at 0 nights this year, how many nights do I need to stay in 2021 to maintain Ambassador status?
