Future Availability?

Received an e-mail last night regarding a reservation for Portland, OR City Center Marriott beginning May 14.
"I am reaching out to inform you that due to the Covid-19 virus we will be canceling your reservation for May 2020. If you need assistance looking for a comparable Marriott hotel nearby we will be happy to help."
When I checked the website earlier today, I saw that they were still selling rooms, and had raised the rates (from a couple of days ago).
Now I get this message, and the two Marriott hotel properties in Portland don't even show up in the list of properties with no rates. Nothing in the Portland, OR search range has rates available.
We are temporarily unable to process requests for rates and availability.
We were almost certainly going to cancel this trip, but does anyone have any definitive news as to what Marriott is doing at this point regarding future reservation availability, e.g. when are they accepting reservations?
I picked June 18 at random and am able to get rates quoted.

Thanks for the tip hedoman.
I've actually reconsidered my position on this. I'm quite happy not to have anyone enter the rooms. And I'm sure housekeeping feels the same. This makes complete sense and is a good decision.

Guys, compared to Accor or Hilton (who just extended the member ship for one year) Marriott really sucks! Im so disappointed with them! But in the end, they'll loose a lot of loyal customer like me (Titanium Elite).

They don’t care... they are going to lose so much business this year and next year, what are a few more unhappy elites.

The travel industry is going to need to change forever. When this is over, you will see a change on operational impact - an emphasis on cleaning, safety, etc. particularly if Covid-19 becomes a seasonal event.

In my estimation it is going to take 2-3 years for travel, restaurants, and other such industries to come back to normal. Marriott knows this and they are focused on maximizing profits in a difficult time, they will worry about what loyalty looks like once they know what their revenue streams look like. And loyalty will be valued by them, but loyalty most likely with who is helping us and our bottom line the most, not who has helped us in the past. I’m not saying it is fair, but that has clearly been Marriot’s tack so far (no soft landings, no comment on loyalty, eliminating ambassadors, etc.)

Marriot MUST do it exactly this same as Hilton.
I have done 20nights at hotels only in January (16nights at Marriott network) and from begining of Febuary it is not possible for me make any bookings most hotels in western Europe are close unitl end of May, ok I think we can go for holidays to China but two days ago China border is closed for foregin people. I don't see any solution to the problem of travel until autumn. Marriott wake up.

Macau announces Sheraton Hotel as 12th hotel for quarantine

The Macau government announced today that it will temporarily use the Sheraton Hotel in Cotai – as the 12th quarantine hotel.

According to authorities, they have reserved 2,000 rooms at Sheraton Hotel for all arrivals to be placed under medical observation. At first, only 500 rooms will be used, then adjusted as necessary.

The Sheraton Hotel is a large-scale hotel, connected to shopping malls, restaurants, and other hotels. Therefore, before selecting it as a designated hotel, representatives from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Health Bureau (SSM) and engineering staff came to check its facilities.

At present, the “special isolated area of the Sheraton Hotel” is completely closed to the shopping malls, restaurants and other hotels. Residents enter the special isolated area through independent entrances.

As I just wrote in another forum, I am looking and seeing some HEAVILY discounted rates in Miami at this time, and also some good prices in other areas as well. Perhaps the hotels are shifting tack, at least the ones that are still open.

Coming up: A post from an elite member who is billeted to the Sheraton Macau by the government as their quarantine hotel and is denied an upgrade, points, qualifying nights, and access to the lounge. The outrage and fury will echo around the Greater Bay Area.

I believe Accor only announce extension for greater China members only so far?
No news yet about the rest of the world.

And for Marriott, they acknowledge that they still considering their options.
For me I will wait until they announce what they going to do then decide whether I continue my loyalty to them.

I don’t think I agree with that. The hotel almost certainly isn’t providing the services it agreed to provide when the OP booked with them and market conditions have materially changed (e.g. Disneyland is closed).

I don’t see why some are so impatient.
It will be announced in due time.

You can still book this hotel on Marriott so I guess there’ll be using the other tower for them. In case you’re interested, the lounge and most restaurants are closed. The Palm lounge is open for breakfast. They are offering in-room breakfast and also an in-room happy hour menu for elites, something which anyone is quarantined would moan about not getting. 🙂

Nines and AC are closed. The Residence Inn and Marriott Waterfront are open still.

Hope that helps.
