Yep

Similar situation.

Have a trip booked—almost 1,000,000 points. If I cancel, then I get charged full rack for the week. Or, I can just no show and lose the points. I’m choosing the latter at this point.

This 140 night a year guy is walking away. Shocking that they will give up $50k a year over a few grand. My family is psyched, though. They get POd when I always make them choose Marriott hotels. Now we can pick whatever looks good.

Later Boomer.

Marriott just sending emails now offering a ‘retreat’ to the rockies in Colorado (to European customer) and ‘See your favorite artists from VIP suites at iconic arenas throughout Europe.’

yeah sure even tho it’s all cancelled! Zero mentioning of corona.. can’t make the sh*t up they do there at HQ.

That's actually better than the official policy, which is that you can't no show and lose the points. A good friend of mine ran into this situation earlier this year and was told that the rule was that a no show award reservation was charged a cancellation fee at whatever the rate was for those dates plus tax. He ran it up the chain and talked to hotel management, and they all confirmed this was the official policy. He ended up having to get a friend that lived nearby drive over to check in for the reservation since losing the points was much better than the $10K cancellation policy. This was very similar to situation that happened last year at the St. Regis Aspen where a guest's flight got delayed and they charged him a one-night no show fee.

Wow. Closing due to COVID-19, but refusing refunds? You can't make this stuff up.

Marriott destroyed the Starwood brand and got greedy. It's an incredible sh*t show. I tried to burn as many points as possible in booking trips before the dynamic pricing and barely made a dent in my account. Now all travel is cancelled and don't know what will happen.

Marriott - if they were smart - would reverse many/most of their screwing of their most loyal members, but we all know it won't happen.

Hadn’t checked that

I just figured I would do online check-in. I guess we’ll see. Seems like horsecrap to me. Just ludicrous.

I might try to dispute through my Chase card, not hopeful but worth a shot at least

I feel like it is irresponsible to continue to encourage people to be staying at their properties, they really are putting not just guests and their employees at risk but society in general. Missing a stay because of a schedule conflict is one thing this is pretty extreme. Taking short term gain yet losing a customer for life seems a bit short sided

bro, just cancel the credit card used to guarantee your reservation or report it as lost or stolen. You won't lose points not money. Marriott/hotel can pound sand.

I would strongly urge people to not give business to the Courtyard Marriott Crystal City/Reagan National Airport.
Blames it on corporate despite two other properties not charging me inside the window when I was pulled off the road.

And Marriott will say they don't own hotels, only manage them

Doesn't anyone at Marriott at any level have a brain anymore? The Lurkers seem to be the last source of intelligence at the company.

He hasn't banned travel *to* the EU... Americans are still free to visit the EU and return at their leisure :)

With 140 nights/year and $50k spend/year, have you tried calling your Ambassador (although your profile somehow states Marriott Platinum)?

Matthew Boucher Mar 12, 2020 4:35 pm

Indeed I have. They have “opened a case.” I am not optimistic. My ambassador said she isn’t authorized to do anything.

Haven’t updated my profile in a few years. Platinum, as you know, was the highest level for a while before the current tiers.

Finished at 130 nights although my spend was much lower than yours. Absolutely ridiculous/crazy if Ambassador isn't able to help out (he/she should be all over hotel's management team).
