I just read their IG post and so admire their compassionate and selfless stance. We will visit this property and support them in the future. |
Marriott Bonvoy Lurkers — is there anything you can do to rectify this situation? As a Lifetime Titanium member, this is very disheartening as I am now being charged over $3,000 for an event cancellation that was beyond my control. This is very disappointing after 20 years of loyalty to Marriott.

Hi All,
One of the largest trade shows in the US was cancelled on Monday night due to COVID-19 concerns — about 12 hours before it was to start. Over 80,000 people typically attend each year. I had 8 room nights booked at about $370/night each and the Anaheim Marriott won’t budge and is charging for all nights. I’m on the hook for over $2000 in charges. They were booked as individual reservations due to difficulty booking earlier and would have been pieced together at check-in. If it was treated as one reservation it would have been a 2 night penalty according to the rate rules when originally booked. I think this is terrible policy. Anyone else on the same boat with convention cancellations? I’m Lifetime Titanium and will shift my loyalty from here forward if this isn’t resolved. |
Wonder when Marriott will catch up and protect their customers - https://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/m...ng-coronavirus

Yesterday I cancelled my 9 nights stay starting next week in BKK (4 Bonvoy 5 Waldorf), I couldn't cancel the refundable JW Marriott reservation for some reason online so I chatted the nice customer guy who was able to cancel my booking then I asked the status extension, see the conversation below, I replaced his name with Marriott:
Marriott: Thanks for your loyalty as well in our exclusive loyalty tier of Titanium. Me: Amid this special time Marriott should look into file and extend the status of those who heavily stayed in Asia Me: Hyatt has announced they would consider this Me: I know Marriott has extended those elites based in China, but I think it's not enough Me: 95% my stays in Asia Marriott: I certainly understand the need for this and appreciate your patience. Me: but I'm based in US Marriott: We will continue to monitor and work with members towards a great experience and I hope this outcome is met. Shangri-La extended my status with them some time ago. I would hope to see something like this from Marriott as well. My company shifted our biz to Hilton and it was going to be a challenge as it was. Now this makes it almost impossible |

advanced payment for Marriott Courtyard in Katy Texas
Unfortunately, I prepaid to get a cheaper rate. Two things have happened since I made the reservation. I was treated for lung cancer recently at John Hopkins and they don't advise me to fly to Houston. Secondly, my meeting has been cancelled. I wonder if they are going to bend on their rules about these prepaid reservations....
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. |
I hate buying non-refundable rooms but Marriott was having such a great Cyber Monday sale I booked rooms in Sevilla and Lisbon, and now looks like Spain is about to get to Italy's stage. Reached out to the Twitter folks to see if there is anything they can do since I need to decide here very shortly if we are going to go or not, would hate to eat $500 in rooms but feel like cancelling is the right thing to. I personally not concerned with getting sick but hate to bring something home. Spain and Portugal are not listed on Marriotts page yet for wavers so Ill report back a data point if they budge. IHG did for me at a property in Madrid

So this thing is officially a pandemic. The us govt is mulling a travel restriction to Europe and companies including mine have banned all travel including domestic USA travel
when is Marriott going to wake up and accept this year is shot and extend elite benefits for next year to ALL members not just those in China? |
I dunno, their current promo is pretty compelling, maybe they don't need to...

Marriott really needs to launch a Global Double Elite Nights Promo effective immediately.

IHG waives all cancellation fees GLOBALLY
IHG just waived all change and cancellation fees GLOBALLY for stays for the next ~2 months. From the email I just received:
We know that flexibility is what our guests are looking for right now. So, we are waiving cancellation fees for existing and new bookings at all IHG hotels globally for stays between 9 March 2020 and 30 April 2020. https://www.ihg.com/content/gb/en/cu...ravel-advisory I just cancelled my Sheraton Park City reservation (expecting a baby in 5 weeks - my little boy at ski school seemed like a recipe for disaster). I'm hoping the hotels waives the deposit (given spring break, it was a 45 day cancel policy) Hoping Marriott follows. |

I just got this in the mail from Best Western: If you are a Best Western Rewards® program elite status member, we will protect your current status through January 31, 2022 without the need to fulfill the necessary annual stay qualifications. We understand your travels may have been interrupted by COVID-19 through no fault of yours. You are our loyal customer and we appreciate your business. Pretty sad non-response from Marriott on this. Shows how tone-deaf they really are. |

Probably never. Remember, they were still pushing China travel promos in February.
