That is basically how the infections got spread out from Italy to all the Western Europe. US just raised the Travel Alert not to travel to the 2 regions of Italy - but if you look at the map, the whole Italy is falling, Fast. 1700 confirmed cases in Italy as of now with 34 fatalities. https://www.thelocal.it/20200301/map...virus-outbreak |
At what point would people cancel domestic USA travel? Amazon has shut down all travel including domestic for their staff. Is travel of any kind stupid right now?
i have total discretion to travel or not to travel, no chance I’ll go international but questioning when even domestic travel is dangerous |
Was going to do a round-the-island trip in Taiwan last week, canceled and went to Mallorca instead. Just got back and probably going to stay home for a while. Was in Milan just before the outbreak too, sure dodged a bullet there.

Scheduled to go to TIA via EWR/VIE outbound and FRA/ORD inbound in 2 weeks. Not sure what I’ll do at this point.

Two Internal Sales Kickoff Meetings have been cancelled. One was supposed to be in Bali and one for next week in Dallas. Some vendor conferences have also been cancelled. I suspect many, many if not most conferences scheduled in the near future will get cancelled/postponed.

Already done 40 nights so far this year
cancelled my japan trip (last weekend) and heading to Dubai this weekend. Considering Abu Dhabi tho since two hotels are under quarantine. more worry about being stuck in quarantine during the trip or back home |

I dont think he means to victim blame. International hotels and business travel intersect, which has caused increased fatalities in the SARS epidemic. There's a relevant NIH study about it. I was in Milan last week and last minute my meetings in Turin were cancelled because of the virus. I was at the train station at the time and I wish I hadn't been there at the time. I spent the rest of the 2 day visit in the hotel going out as little as possible. So while I do agree that we can't lock down the world, and that hotel can play a role in harboring people that are stuck in this situation, there is also the aspect of contagion spread that must be taken into account. It just sucks for everyone.
I've now cancelled my trip to Dubai seeing that the Abu Dhabi Yas Island W Hotel is under quarantine and the cycling team in there was previously also at the Westin Seyahi in Dubai. |

Why don't we lock down the entire world then, so that people start dying from starvation, lack of medicines, etc.
The virus is spreading, regardless of whether you want to victim blame... How about some consideration to the above? They too, are affected involuntarily. If they get sick, they too, are victimized. Then everyone would blame them being so oblivious on what is going on - I am talking about you, also being oblivious on what is going on. Not to mention that if anyone get sick that could have been avoided, i.e. not to travel to infected area, they add the pressure to the health care system whether locally or at their home country. Your "logic" is not even a logic, just some irrational full of argument sake, type of "complaints" that are not warranted. |

--Jon A friend was at Bali 2 weeks ago and he said the number of Chinese visitors there were unusually high. He attributed those were "escaped" from China before flights suspended, and were not willing to return to China, yet. Google / Microsoft / Facebook have been rumored suspend all business meetings requiring travels. The infected case in Zurich, Switzerland reportedly is a Google employee. The world is not locked down by the governments, but essentially is stopped by companies big and small, as well as responsible individuals who cancel pleasure trips out of precaution. It is too bad for those who live in the infected areas for losing their incomes because their jobs depend heavily to tourism, but the blame should be straightly towards the source of this pandemic, not the people whose plans are forced to change, therefore not visiting the affected areas. |

I've now cancelled my trip to Dubai seeing that the Abu Dhabi Yas Island W Hotel is under quarantine and the cycling team in there was previously also at the Westin Seyahi in Dubai. A few of the characteristics of this infectious disease are 1) It spread much faster than SARS, even though the death rate is much lower than SARS. 2) Many people who are already infected, are asymptomatic - i.e. no checking of temperature etc, like during SARS infection, could screen out the infected people because more and more cases reported infected persons dont show any sign of rising temperature or basic flu like symptoms when they were finally detected thru DNA swaps or CT scan of their lungs. CT scan of lungs seems to be the most effective way to detect infection due to the "bags" of the lungs are "eaten up" by the virus, then showing image of "frosted glass" like white look... when the DNA swaps might still show negative. Just HOW an early detection could be effective when a good number of infected are asymptomatic? That might explain why the Italian outbreak is so serious and it has spread to the whole Western Europe countries as well as the Northern Europe. It is a Contagious disease. The key word is CONTAGIOUS. The only effect way to contain a highly contagious disease if there is one, is to avoid contact, until an effective vaccine is invented. |

Whatever steps you personally take it will do little to stop the overall spread of the disease. The only way to stop it is 100% lockdown in infected areas, flights cancelled, borders shut etc. Our political leadership doesn’t want that.
Businesses will react. It does not take the government's action for major US tech companies to suspend all their business travelings. Ditto for other US companies whether big well known names or companies the general public has hardly heard about. All 3 US airlines have suspended their flights to Italy. It remains to be seen whether other flights to /from EU will follow or not. Private sectors are doing whatever they can, with or without politicians helps. Whatever personal steps one could do, would protect one self and one's families. YMMV of course. May be you dont even care to become a bearer of the infectious virus to spread to others because you think individual action is not important. It is that kind of ignorance and selfish behavior would add to the scale of spread when the governments are pleading people's self-disciplines which some people would inevitably ignore. |

Italy has not done a complete 100% lock down for its country, only a doz or less towns. Their political leadership is not any better than the US. And US has not had the wide spread outbreak anywhere near the scale found in Italy.
