Quarantine insurance

Does anyone know if Le Meridien has been under contact tracing, and if so for how long? How long does contact tracing typically take?

We have 10 days scheduled on a local island after LM, so would need to stay until contact tracing lifted. Pretty much every other Marriott property was on the contact tracing list last night.

We are looking at insurance that covers quarantine, but most policies only cover $150/day. So at current rate of $525, less 30% discount and $150 day from travel insurance, we are still looking at $3000 (before food) for a 14 day quarantine, and double that if only one of us tests positive and we have to quarantine separately. I think our chase Sapphire will cover $500 with trip interruption insurance included, but still researching.

What have others done? Counted on points as a backup, planned on self insuring the difference, paid for a plan with higher coverage? Just went and didn't worry about it?

$6000 worst case scenario is freaking my husband out a little, so it would be really helpful to hear what others did. Thanks!!

For our trip to another resort in the Maldives a couple weeks ago, we found a trip insurance policy with Trawick International that for a small upgrade, covered $7,000 of trip delay (that included/covers quarantine)

If you can't afford the quarantine you shouldn't be going to Maldives. Hawaii or South America might fit the bill. Maldives isn't supposed to be cheap.

Wow.

Would $6000 bankrupt us? Make us miss bills? No. Could I write a check for that right now? Yes, and it would come out of our travel budget; and that is 2-3 international trips (using miles and points) for us that we would prefer not to lose. We are trying to be responsible and plan for all the possibilities.

Congratulations if you are at a place in your life where $6000 is chump change.

Thank you to everyone on this thread who took the time to share information from their research and experiences, it has made all the difference in planning our trip in May. We are very excited for our first trip to the Maldives.

You can buy this policy at www.insubuy.com (Insurance Agent) I have purchased it twice so far and have recently submitted a claim for delayed baggage. Claim has not been adjudicated yet. Submitted 20+ days ago and their responsiveness is rather terrible so this experience will guide my future purchases.

Yes. Maldives shows that it has been along with other Marriott resorts. Just canceled St. Regis stay after LM in late February to play it safe.

After having been there for a week, and really enjoying it, I remarked that it would be nice to have bikes to get around (to from the OWV) like many of the staff use. However, would I rent one for $10 a day? Absolutely not. The island is small, you can walk the perimeter of it in about 30 minutes, although much of that is on foot paths only, and the pathways are not so extensive you would be using these things for more than an hour before you have navigated every path twice. An odd decision on their end to charge for them. My guess is these will be available to borrow at no cost soon when this plan doesn't have many takers.

Has anyone used gift cards at this resort? There is currently a promo for my Amex cards which gives a 20% discount and could pick up enough to cover the seaplane, diving, other incidentals, etc.

A quick search on the word “gift” brought up this post, so you should be fine.

Anyone staying this week?

I'm here for a few more days if anyone else is around! First time poster who is grateful to this thread in my preparations.

Enjoying my stay immensely so far and will share more thoughts afterward. I'm also a diver should anyone else be getting some scuba action in while they're here! Several rays on this morning's dives.

COVID quarantine policy

Per the link out of the Wiki, and communication with the property, the policy is stated as:

· A confirmed Covid-19 positive guest will require to be self-isolated and undergo a 14 days quarantine period as per the Health Protection Agency’s quarantine guidelines.

· For the confirmed Covid-19 positive guests, we are pleased to extend 30% discount on the best available rate for the accommodation and 50% discount on Food & Beverages during the quarantine period.

· Should there be a case where one guest from a sharing room is confirmed Covid-19 positive, both guests are required to be isolated in separate accommodations and are required to undergo a 14 days quarantine period as per the Health Protection Agency’s quarantine guidelines.

· Upon completion of the 14 days quarantine period, the direct contact guest would require to take a PCR test and must present a Negative result to be able to travel.

If I am reading this correctly, it appears that if the day before departure, only one of my family tests positive, then we would be separated into 2 different rooms, and all of us forced to quarantine for 14 days?

Does anyone know any more practical details about how this would be implemented?

Specifically:

- would all of us be required to stay in our two separate rooms and just order room service for 14 straight days?

- would we have to pay for both rooms (with 30% off)?

- if we are in an overwater villa, would we be allowed to snorkel?

- if only my 12-year old son tests positive, how do they handle the isolation requirement?

- could we test again sooner than 14 days, and travel if we are now negative and symptom-free?

- if we are symptom-free, can you challenge the positive test as a false positive and test again?

I assumed we’re also allowed to be transported and stay in government facilities, presumably at a lower price point.
